About the property

3 Bedroom, 2.5 bath. Perfect blend of country life and modern sophistication.

The Space:

The home includes a private master suite on the main level with an ultra-comfortable king size bed, private deck with a two person hot tub, and a large master bathroom with heated floors and a huge walk in shower. The upstairs loft has a very comfortable queen sized bed, with a closet and amoire. Guests in the loft typically share the master bathroom for bathing, though there is a powder room available as well. All the beds are made with high quality designer linens and pillows. On the main floor you will find a truly awesome and well equipped gourmet kitchen with all the bells and whistles that every cook will love, plus a large dining area, great room and beautiful rock fireplace. Off the kitchen is a wonderful library with a large movie collection and an assortment of books for your enjoyment. You will also find high speed wireless internet, and a 55” flat screen TV with surround sound.

Our large deck is the perfect outside space with beautiful mountain views and screened in gazebo with a double hammock, perfect for lounging in the treetops.

On the lower level there is a large separate studio (not accessible from main house) which we've recently remodeled (June '14) to include a king sized bed and double futon couch. Cozy and light-filled, the studio also features a private entrance, beautiful rock wood burning fireplace, a full bath, and a private deck. The Studio serves as a second, private master suite, making Five Peaks very flexible – two couples can each enjoy a private suite, or larger groups can sleep two in the semi-private loft with queen sized bed, up to four in the Studio, with the king sized bed and comfy double futon, and two in the master suite. The Studio is never rented separately from the main house ensuring privacy for you and your party.

The studio will be made available only when the paid group includes four or more people, unless special arrangements are made in advance.

Guest Access:

Guests will have access to the entire home and property. You will have complete privacy from the moment you arrive. Guests will have access to all amenities, including the washer and dryer, and the garage with automatic door opener.

Interaction with Guests:

While we do not usually greet our guests, we will communicate extensively with you prior to your arrival and send you detailed driving directions, arrival instructions and a house manual. Once you arrive you will have access to us via phone and or email. If you need to meet us, we can be available to do so on short notice.

The Neighborhood:

There is great hiking on the nearby Appalachian Trail, and dozens of other wonderful hiking trails nearby. Or go biking on the beautiful country roads of Nelson County and the nearby Blue Ridge Parkway. Golf, Tennis, skiing, snowboarding, tubing, swimming, and rock climbing, are all right here at Wintergreen Resort. You can also find great fishing in nearby ponds and rivers. Kayak or canoe on the nearby Rockfish, Tye and James Rivers.

In the spring, summer and fall don’t miss the local farmers market, just a 5 minute drive down the road, where you can pick up fresh local meats, veggies, and crafts. Or visit one of the many local farms for fresh fruit and produce.

Getting Around:

You'll need a car to visit Five Peaks and to enjoy nearby attractions. There is no reliable public transit serving Five Peaks. Although you can bike to the farmers market, lake and hiking trails.

Other Things to Note:

Guests will have access to pools and tennis courts at the Wintergreen Resort. You'll need to present your guest passes, which you'll find upon arrival at Five Peaks. We love well behaved, house trained dogs, and their responsible owners. They are welcome at Five Peaks, but please read below (the Dogs Allowed section) for some reasonable restrictions when you bring your pet.

While Five Peaks is very, very private, she is located in a resort community, and we request that you respect the neighborhood's privacy during your stay.

Dogs Allowed:

We love well behaved, house trained dogs, and their responsible owners. They are welcome at Five Peaks. With more than 1 acre of wooded yard for your friends to play, and expansive, multilevel decks that can be closed off to keep your doggies close, your dogs will be as happy as you are that you've brought them to this special place. If you're bringing your well behaved dog, let us know and we'll provide comfy dog beds. and bowls. But the little varmints can be really hard on the furniture, so please understand that YOUR DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE BEDS OR OTHER FURNITURE. If we find excessive dog hair on the furniture, or dog pee anywhere in the house, we will withhold up to $150.00 from your damage deposit depending on the damage. If just dog hair on the couches, the charge will be less. If the dog(s) pee in the house, the cost will be more.

While Five Peaks is very, very private, she is located in a resort community, and we request that you respect the neighborhood's privacy during your stay.

About Debra Ray

We're serial re-modelers, and Five Peaks has been our focus for the past 14 years. Debra is a retired Technical Recruiter, passionate designer and Michael is a structural engineer. We have two wonderful dogs and love to travel. Our most recent overseas trip was to the south of France. We love to cook, and that shows in the gourmet kitchen at Five Peaks.

We love hosting guests, and get great pleasure when we know our guests are happy!

Debra Ray purchased this house in 2013

Why Debra Ray chose Central Virginia

We believe Five Peaks is the perfect blend of country life and modern sophistication. This thoughtfully designed private mountain hideaway is nestled in the treetops, and is the perfect getaway to the Charlottesville/Wintergreen Area.

What makes this house unique

The first time we saw Five Peaks, the flow of the house drew us in immediately. We added the deck and gazebo during our first year, which truly created a connection from the main living area inside, to an awesome living area outside. We have always found the home to be rejuvenating, relaxing, and romantic.

We decided to begin sharing Five Peaks with other guests in December of 2013, and have been overwhelmed with the positive response from our guests. Five Peaks is new to the Homeaway family, but not new to providing a wonderful guest experience. See the "Guestbook comments from the manager" just below for past guest reviews.

4 years in a row...

  • 5 of 5

And so another year has come to pass. 2016 was a year that many of us are more than happy to bid farewell to. In my opinion John Oliver

Said it best ….While the in-between had its challenges the six of us started and ended 2016 in this house. With a warm fire crackling in the

background, we enjoyed filet and lobster tails for our last supper. And to be perfectly honest, we have dined like kings every time we have come here.

Without a visible moon this trip, stargazing was especially enjoyable from the hot tub. I don’t think I there’s a single one of us who doesn’t thank our lucky stars for the heated floor in the master bathroom. It continues to be our favorite part of the house. These few days were a rare opportunity to curl up in the living room with a good book for hours on end. There may be plenty of reasons to look back at 2016 with a critical eye, but as we sit here watching the sunrise and thinking back on the memories we’ve shared in this house, I think we’d have to admit, it wasn’t all bad. Thanks for that!

Owner's Response: It has been incredible to think that you and your friends were our third guests in 2013 and have continued your tradition of staying at Five Peaks for each New Year since then. You are all amazing guests and we feel so "honored" that you found us and chose to keep coming back. You presence is wonderful, you always leave the house immaculate, something that is very appreciated. Thank you Sam, Cass, Robb, Jes, Jack and Bri.

Amazing Blue Ridge Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We spent a long Thanksgiving weekend at Five Peaks with two other couples and our retriever, Benson. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, had plenty of fun, and left completely relaxed. Debra has done an unbelievable job ensuring Five Peaks is an idyllic retreat. The cabin is spacious, clean and wonderfully appointed. The kitchen is most definitely the best we have come across in any rental; we had ample room to pull together our Thanksgiving feast and had everything we needed at our finger tips. Cooking was a joy in this kitchen and it remained central to our weekend because it was easy for whoever was cooking to stay engaged with the rest of the group.

Debra has also ensured Five Peaks is truly pet--friendly. The deck is fully enclosed, so your four-legged companions can't wander off while everyone lounges outside. When we returned from hikes, we inevitably found Benson sprawled out on either the shag carpet leading to the deck or the dog bed he discovered in the master suite.

There is plenty of hiking in and around the area. You can wander the walking trails within the community or take a short drive to either nearby Wintergreen Ski Resort or Rockfish River. As a bonus, most of our hikes ended at one of the many breweries or cideries in the area. Most all of these establishments permit dogs but Bold Rock and Wild Wolf are by far the most welcoming of dogs and have the most friendly staffs.

Five Peaks is an amazing vacation rental and Debra is truly a gracious hostess. We're looking forward to returning to Five Peaks for our next mountain get-away.

Review of Five Peaks at Wintergreen

  • 5 of 5

Five Peaks at Wintergreen was everything and more than we hoped for during our weekend getaway to the Virginia mountains. Debra Ray was a gracious host, and left nothing to chance. All details and amenities were provided. As we were celebrating a birthday, she even left a bottle of champagne, card and party hats. With the weather transitional, we were able to enjoy all aspects of Five Peaks, with the gazebo on the warm evenings, and the hot tub and fireplace on the colder ones. The location is beautiful, with sunrises over the mountains, and we saw deer almost everyday. We found Five Peaks to be immaculate, warm and inviting; and extremely comfortable. Debra was a gracious host, and saw to every need. We also are so pleased that Debra and Five Peaks are pet friendly. We brought our 3 dogs, who also had a wonderful time, and thoroughly enjoyed the plush dog beds provided in the house. We highly recommend this location, and are hoping for a return visit soon. Five Peaks is a lovely vacation property in an absolutyly beautiful setting.

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I along with my niece and our Greyhound recently enjoyed eight wonderful days at Five Peaks.

This vacation home is so appealing from the moment you walk through the door. The home is comfortably furnished and decorated beautifully. Marvelous views from the decks!

We found everything (and more) that we needed in the kitchen. My niece likes to cook and had no trouble preparing gourmet meals for all of us to enjoy.

Debra is wonderful to work with and was so helpful when we had any questions.

You can't go wrong at Five Peaks!

The property is private and intimate yet vast with a beautiful skyline as far as you can see

impeccable, warm and friendly service from Debra and Michael. The house and cozy guest cottage were awesome--luxurious bedding, high-end appliances and furnishings. Loved the artwork and books and the thought that went into their selection and placement throughout the house. The decks, jacuzzi and gazebo along with the endless skyline and trees that were just turning their brilliant Fall colors made for an additional "outside house". The weather was spectacular and we had our Goldens with us in this pet-friendly paradise--Tucker and Riley give Five Peaks "8 Paws Up"!!
