Eric and Tara have lived in Fillmore County their entire lives, and in fact, Eric has lived next door to the property his entire life. They still reside next door and are available to care for any of your needs while you stay in the home. Eric is a local attorney and Tara is a pre-school teacher. I stayed here with a group of friends for a winter get-away and it was perfect! There is a big room for gathering together and lots of bedrooms with assorted arrangements. The house is beautiful with lots of early-20th century character. The hosts were great to work with and very accommodating.
Five of us stayed at this Preston hideaway and had a fabulous weekend! We used all the space in the house and had a bonfire our last night with a beautiful full moon. The house was great - beds were comfortable, plenty of room, and the character of the house is present everywhere. We shopped in Lanesboro down to Harmony and had great eating and drinking experiences along the way. Thanks to Tara for meeting us, giving us the history of the house and making our stay so memorable!
We were 5 friends sharing the house for the weekend. The listing description was accurate as to location, layout and amenities. It's an older house that has plenty of space for people to congregate or spend some quiet time alone. There's a sun porch on the ground floor and a balcony (off one of the bedrooms) on the second floor, as well as a large living room and dining room. The house has been well maintained. Tara (the owner) was very pleasant and helpful (especially when we locked ourselves out of the house). She and Eric made themselves available, in case we had any problems. We were in the area to do some biking. Both the Root River Trail and the Harmony Preston Trail, were very nice to bike. We had a lovely time and would highly recommend this property to others.
A wonderful experience, our 2nd time visiting. A very quiet and restful environment. Only a short distance from the trail. Very accomodating, definitely recommend it.
This property wonderfully accommodated our large group of 3 families - 6 adults and 6 kids. 2 kiddos slept on sofas but there would have been plenty of room on the floor in one of the queen bedrooms had we remembered our air mattresses. Beautiful outdoor space! Kids enjoyed running around the yard, we all enjoyed the patio with grill. Kitchen was large enough to accommodate gatherings around meal prep and overflow dining space. Dining room was a great place to eat and enjoy games. Everything was clean including bedding and towels. Great to have laundry accommodations if we would have needed them for a longer stay. A couple visits from neighborhood dog and cats. We took advantage of close proximity to the trail and Mystery Caves. It was a beautiful, historic home and we enjoyed it immensely!
Preston is know as Minnesota's trout capital! This historic home is located near many freshwater trout streams that are restocked by the fish hatchery in Lanesboro. Take a tour of the National Trout Center just blocks away or try a guided trout tour from one of our local outfitters! Leisurely tube or canoe down the Root River or hike in one of the many local state parks. Preston is a bikers dream hub with the Root River State Trail and the Harmony-Preston Valley Trail located just BLOCKS from your Home Away From Home! Preston is only 8 miles from Lanesboro which hosts a live theater and many specialty shops.
