Reviewer Comments:

This property is somewhat deceiving, it says it is pet friendly and it boasts a private beach access. The home itself is pet friendly, which is great and straightforward. However, the "yard" is not what is pictured on the website. The back meadow is just 4' tall cheatgrass in the summer which makes it completely unusable and the side yard is virtually non-existent. The small patch of grass in the back is great but the doggie leftovers from all people prior make it hard to use as well. We picked up after our dogs, but you can tell other renters did not. Also, we have a water loving dog so the private beach access was the main reason we chose this property. A quick walk over to the beach to find out that pets are NOT allowed was a real let down. The owner and property management team should let you know that, because nowhere on the site does it mention pets are not allowed at the beach. The house itself, being pet friendly should take extra care to clean pet stains and mats of hair from the home. I can assure you, for us, it did not. You couldn’t walk around barefoot for more than five minutes without having Sasquatch level hairy feet. Not only that, but my wife and I wanted to move a couch to make more room in the living room and when we moved the couch, underneath of it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years, it was disgusting. I have rented dozens of pet friendly properties over the years and none were this dirty. I realize that being pet friendly means there will some small residues or leftover stains, I get that, but this was borderline unacceptable. On top of that, the fridge came with a warning that on its 1-9 dial, that anything over 4 would freeze your food. We set the fridge to 1.5 to make sure that didn't happen. Well, after the first night, everything froze and we lost over $100 in groceries, so be leery of that as well. We went for my wife and I's anniversary and the whole trip was quite a letdown on all fronts. Wish we could get a refund!!!

Owner's Response: We obviously did not do a good job with our walk through of the home before your arrival. We will take all your concerns and correct.

Underwhelming stay at a beautiful place!

  • 2 of 5

My wife and I have been going to McCall for years and we have rented dozens of different properties, most of which have been pet friendly locations. This place was underwhelming, slightly deceiving and overall unenjoyable. This place tells you it is pet friendly and your pets are welcome, which is all well and true. However, they also boast about private beach access for the rental, what they don't mention anywhere however is that those pets you brought, are NOT welcome at the beach. The main reason we chose this location over the others is because we have a dog who loves to swim and we were excited to take advantage of the private beach. The property management company or the owners of the property should make that very clear as to not be misleading. On top of that, the house itself was rather dirty. Recent pets stains hadn't been cleaned, mats of hair from previous animals were everywhere , you couldn't walk barefoot without having Sasquatch feet in about 5 minutes and when my wife and I moved one of the couches, it looked like underneath of the couch hadn't been vacuumed or cleaned in years, it was disgusting. To boot, the fridge comes with a warning on its 1-9 dial that anything over 4 will freeze your food. We noticed it was set at 3 and we changed it to 2 to be safe. Needless to say it still froze everything in the fridge and ruined over $100 in groceries. We contemplated leaving a day early because it just wasn't worth it, if it were a possibility, we would of asked for our money back. I guess on the plus side, they had a comfortable bed and a nice BBQ.

Reviewer Comments:

This was my first experience in renting a house. I had alot of help in choosing and the write up does not do this house justice. We had 5 in our group but many more could have stayed comfortably. The house was plenty big with all bedrooms upstairs and great living areas down. The kitchen was well stocked (sans fridge), so didnt need to buy spices etc. Alot of dishes, pots, pans etc. Very clean and everyone was happy with this fact. The porch was a big asset to this house as it wraps around 3 sides with plenty of room. Location was excellent (you can walk to downtown if you want - minutes to Shore Lodge). The backyard was a meadow more or less and we saw deer as well. I would highly recommend this house based on size and cleanliness, well stocked, location, porch, and price.

All good. We enjoyed the big, round table. I have spent many wonderful times there in the past.

Descent, fairly clean, better 'supplies' and screens in the windows would have been nice.

  • 3 of 5

Pros - Plenty of room for our large crew. Large breakfast nook was nice. Property had a grill, (though it was horribly dirty) fire pit, and lots of games, books, movies. Enjoyed the close, private access to a wonderful dock. Beautiful views and quiet area, even saw a deer in the back. Cons - there were no screens in 2 of the upstairs windows so we couldn't open the windows and at almost 90 degrees outside with no AC it got a little miserable up there. Also, killed a few more spiders than I would have liked. Kitchen had pots, pans, dishes but just the bare minimum. Toilet paper, tissues,, and paper towels all felt as rough as the bark outside. Probably would have had softer at Motel 8.

Reviewer Comments:

Great house. Very clean - with the exception of some flies (random for this time of year). Comfortable beds. Could use a little updating (couches comfy - but dated). Beautiful location. We had everything we needed to cook a few meals. Suggestions: Minor-timer on stove missing knob - cant use, little hot water for showers. Chekc out instructions are very confusing. One set says don't start laundry - other set says start laundry but there was no laundry detergent. Recommend going through these instructions (on table and in book) to line these up. Also - no WiFi. This would be nice to have. Access to front door not great with snow and ice. My bigger issue - unit listed as dog friendly when rented. It wasn't until I rented the unit that I was told there was an extra fee PER dog. I wasn't happy that I had to pay an extra $100+ that wasn't clearly stated. (Afterward they changed it on the website). I would suggest going through your site and all of your printed instructions, make everything clear and matched.
