I was born and raised in Potter County. After meeting my wife and graduating from college we moved back to the area. The previous owner of Valley Vista of 35 years is a dear friend. After he decided to move closer to family and milder climates we were offered the Lodge to make our own memories.
We currently live and raise our family on a sheep farm in Potter County. We strive to provide a childhood of years gone past for our three children
Benn Batterson purchased this lodge in 2015
We purchased this property as our retirement home. We had looked at building a home with a similar view but Valley Vista came on the market and we loved the location and layout. The privacy and quiet provides a peaceful setting
The gorgeous views both from the tower and lodge porch make Vista unique. Anything from stars to sunsets and wildlife in between. The Lodge sits on top of a ridge bordering 250,000 acres of State Forest with hiking trails and old roads to explore.
Really great accommodations and a wonderful host. The sky is amazing at night! Great Time!
Myself and 4 friends have been coming to this cabin to bow hunt for many years (1989-2002) and returned again this year after 14 years off. The cabin was just as we remembered it except even nicer! The whole cabin had been done over, inside and out. Such a beautiful, quiet and secluded spot. The farms around there are gorgeous and loaded with deer. The owner and his wife extended such great hospitality that it made the week there even more enjoyable. No matter what reason you would like to visit this area, this cabin is the place to stay!
My spouse and I picked this place in order to stargaze and do some small hikes in the area. The skies were clear two night so we were able to enjoy the tower very much. In fact, we were going to go to Cherry Springs but decided to stay at the house instead and so were able to use a stargazing app on our phone to pick out the different planets, stars and constellations.
The house is very roomy; there were only two of us but with the long dining table and multiple beds, there is plenty room for a much larger party.
Everything was pretty clean inside. There were some pans that were very greasy on the bottoms but we soaked them in dish soap and they were fine to use after that.
We were able to connect to the internet at the house which was helpful because we couldn't get a signal to text or telephone and one point I needed to contact the owner and had to do so through email. There was a phone at the house but I didn't think I had a phone number to call. In fact, there was one in a notebook on the desk but I didn't see that until the last day. I would suggest a sign or something by the phone indicating who to call.
This was a fun place to stay. We loved the quiet and the darkness at night. We saw and heard many creatures including a large white tailed deer and a big old bear (on the road) just a mile or so away. There was also some kind of night time crying creature or creatures at night while we watched the stars. I do not know what that was but sure would like to know!
In all, it was a great experience and I would recommend it for a small or large group.
This was our second visit, and again was not disappointed. The home has everything needed and is very comfortable. It is perfect for night sky viewing.
We had the great pleasure of staying at Benn’s house for a family getaway with our 5 and 6 year old daughters. What an incredible property! The views from the house and the tower are amazing during the day but the stargazing was the really spectacular event. The house itself is very comfortable, well taken care of and clean. The main bedroom where we slept is off the kitchen, far removed from the loft sleeping and loft bedroom where the kids slept which was great. The kitchen has updated appliances, plenty of counters for food prep and is stocked with all that is needed to prepare big family meals. We had the luck of gorgeous weather so we had all of our meals at the little picnic table on the covered porch overlooking the open field. We were hoping for quiet and solitude and we got exactly that! Benn was very responsive leading up to our stay which made our arrival super easy and stress-free. On the evening of our arrival, I texted him to see if he had a tool kit on the property, he responded right away and drove over within a few minutes to assist us! We look forward to staying again very soon and would highly recommend this property to anyone we know. Thanks Benn!
The lodge was a great secluded getaway. Very clean and put together we had absolutely no regrets. Benn was a great owner that answered any questions I had promptly. Looking forward to renting a longer stay next year. Thank you for your hospitality.
