Walk-in apartment in a landmark house within walking distance from Staten Island Ferry. Shops and a bus stop next doors.

Take the Staten Island Ferry, which runs 24-7 from the southern tip of Manhattan. Walk along the embankment with a view of the Statue of Liberty, or ride the bus a few minutes straight to our door in the St. George historic district. Step into a Victorian home surrounded by tall trees.

Mount a winding staircase and find yourself in the world of the past, under the tall ceilings, with light from many windows. Enjoy the comfort of three spacious bedrooms and a wide-open living-dining room with a high brick chimney.

Sample the Chinese and Latino takeout steps away if you are on foot. Wander 100 yards away to St. Peter's church, the oldest on Staten Island. Discover the pleasures of our unique 'forgotten borough,' but with Manhattan just a 25-minute sail away.

Extremely disappointing -- A 5 star dump

  • 1 of 5

Diving up, the outside of the home was not kept up. Grass not mowed, cement stair to drive was dislodged, front porch floor rotting. Once inside, the overall unit was not clean, wallpaper damaged, cobwebs, uncovered electrical outlets. The bed in the front room was so very worn it seems as if it could have been original to the home. Wireless internet didn't work until the third effort to address this issue. Dorm sized refrigerator was on a table so small that it almost fell off the first time we opened it, and wasn't cleaned out prior to our arrival. The floor is a rolled out piece of laminate and not secured down. I would not ever stay here again and recommend others to look else where. I do no know who is giving this place a 5 star rating..... maybe the unit upstairs? Downstairs is awful.

Owner's Response: I bought a brand a new Wi-Fi router and new wall mounted TV. No "uncovered outlets". If you see some furniture need to be replaced just met me know asap. In this particular case I had to take care of box spring. Grass at front yard trimmed every month.

Huge Space Great Price

  • 5 of 5

This was a great space for our stay. My husband and I came to visit NYC and were accompanied by several of our children whose ages range from 23 to 5 years old. The apartment was clean and very roomy. There plenty of towels and linens and the kitchenette was stocked with everything that we needed for our short stay. I love, LOVE my coffee. I take a coffee maker with me when we go on trips just in case there isn't one. The kitchen had a coffee maker and even had filters. A small container of dish soap and powder for the dishwasher was provided. There was also paper towels and clean up wipes provided. I even found a crockpot in one the cabinets which I would have loved to have had the time to use but we stayed BUSY having a blast in the city. Of course, we spent most of our time touring and sightseeing, but in order to give our small child a break, I spent two mornings at the apartment letting him play and watch some TV while the older kids went into the city with my husband. The television has cable and there was even a basket of toy cars there and my son enjoyed playing with them. It is Spring in New York and so the walk through the neighborhood to the Staten Island Ferry was beautiful with all the older homes, beautiful flowers and great temperatures. There several hills on one route that we took to the ferry but the rest of the time we just walked to the end of Westervelt, took a right and walked beside the water the whole time. Although, we did not personally meet the property owner, Nikolay was available via phone or message and was quick to answer any questions. We had no problems during our stay. We used the laundromat that was a few houses down the street and the people who ran it were very nice. They even have a laundry drop off service if you feel safe with that. We didn't walk back through the neighborhood at night when returning from the city. Two nights, we took a cab which was easily acquired at the bus station near the ferry and two nights we took the bus. I will note that the bus doesn't run on Westervelt late at night so, if you are coming back in late, just go ahead and get a cab or start walking. Our cab ride was $14 plus a tip and honestly, as frugal as I am, it was worth every penny of it to not have to walk anymore. Another note about the apartment is that is has off street parking/driveway. It was very convenient to be able to park the van by the apartment and leave it.

Ok, but great price for NYC apt

  • 3 of 5

Could use more cleaning, curtains for privacy instead of sheers, & place for food and dish storage. The walk to the ferry was doable for kids 10-15 plus 4 entire days of walking the city, but know it is about 3/4 mile with steep hills there and back. Since we were just there at night, it was an ok place for our family of 6 to stay and enjoy NYC. Owner was great to work with when we had an internet issue while there and seems to be working to make improvements.
