Our winter yacht stay in Boston

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed on the Sea Pearl for two weeks while we awaited the birth of our grandchild. It is very clean and well kept, as the pictures show. The owners were easily assessable by phone and email....although we didn't have any need to contact them.

We had a car but rarely used it as it is a short walk to the ferry that takes you to the aquarium and downtown Boston and a short walk into downtown Charlestown. The Constitution is close by as is Bunker Hill.

We would definitely stay here again...maybe in the spring/summer.

Wonderful, unique alternative to expensive hotels!

  • 5 of 5

The Sea Pearl was a great place to lodge during our three days and nights in Boston. I was in town for a wedding with my four kids and a friend who flew in to help me manage them. We would have had to book two hotel rooms, which would've been very expensive for three nights. Staying on the yacht was not only more economical, it was much more fun! Jim was very helpful the first night in getting our stuff from the car to the boat and giving us a quick tour of the yacht. The beds were cozy, the kitchenette had everything we needed for simple breakfasts, and the location was very convenient to the things we took in (we water ferried to the Aquarium on day and drove to the science museum on another, taking the T from there to Quincy Market). Space heaters provided sufficient heat, and (though I was skeptical at first) the showers had plenty of warmth and water pressure! Jim and Deb have lots of good resources (both in emails and in the manual on the boat) that helped us find your way around the boat and make the most of our time in Boston. I'm sure my kids will remember the fun we had in Boston for the rest of their lives!

2 If By Sea . . .

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful experience. We did Thanksgiving weekend here in 2016 and we had a blast! The owner Jim met us on Thanksgiving day to give us the overview of the yacht, the surrounding neighborhood and how to get to the North End to experience all the fine dining. The yacht was clean and very comfortable. The gentle rocking of the yacht was sleep inducing to me, but was never an issue. The Harbor Walk is literally right on the marina that the yacht is situated on and is definitely recommended for breathtaking views. Jim said we could walk to the North End but because the weather was not cooperating, we took Uber, a short 5 minute drive, and were able to not only eat a great meal but also sampled multiple popular bakeries. The owners provided excellent service and were very responsive if we had a question. We would love to stay here again, and if you want something different and exciting, just do it!

Fun thing to do!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to the US from the UK. The first time was several years ago to New York and obviously now to Boston.

Staying on the Sea Pearl was a unique experience and a fun thing to do. We were lucky enough to be there for the labour day fire works in the harbour which were spectacular. We found out about them from doing a bit of research before we came, always worth doing !

I would say that the boat is perfect for 2 if you are not used to being in a limited space for a week, I think personally we'd have found it difficult with more than that, but then we are not used to boats!

If you are visiting from another country don't fret too much as we did ( actually I did as it was a suprise for my partner ) about having transfers arranged in advance. We have always managed to arrange taxi transfers easily but Boston was a struggle and it seems you have to just get there then sort it out.

It was easy actually. We walked out of the terminal and got the free bus to the water taxi's. 2 were there when arrived.

The taxi took us straight to our boat, perfect, and with a tip cost 30 dollars.

My second bit of advice is a must if you are visiting further away places for a night out in Boston and don't fancy using the underground (T) late at night.

Download Uber on your phone. Let your credit card know in advance though as mine was stopped initially..grrr...but soon sorted by a phone call ! There are loads of Uber drivers and you can see their ratings and fares before comitting. You then just click to book. You can see how close they are on the app. Just get them to come to Pier 8. It was easy and very very cheap, probably better than the train even for 2 of us. I think the Uber to the airport on our return was about 16 dollars. You don't hand over cash it's automatically deducted from the credit card you registered with Uber. You don't have to give a tip apparently but as visitors we decided to. Still an absolute bargain though compared to what you pay for a taxi in the UK.

All in all a wonderful holiday and a unique experience, we'd do it again in a heart beat.

Thanks Deborah.

First time staying on a boat - not the last!

  • 4 of 5

This was our first time staying on a boat versus a home or hotel. LOVED IT!!! Debs boat was very comfortable and the marina was quiet. Took a little while to find our sea legs but got the hang of it with no problem. Beds are comfy and everything you need is there just on a smaller scale. Sitting outside enjoying coffee or wine (depending on the time of day) was fabulous. Wonderful being on the water. The marina is outside of Boston so you will need to walk a while to get to the North End/Long Wharf or you can pick up the Trolley at the USS Constitution that allows you to jump off at about 10 different locations. If you have mobility issues, this may not be the boat for you. It requires a full step to get on board from the dock and several steep steps to get up to the deck. We will be coming back to Boston next year and will definitely stay on a boat. Try it - you will like it!!

Sea Pearl Review

  • 5 of 5

We have never stayed on a yacht before so this was a new experience for us. The yacht was very comfortable and had the amenities that we needed for our stay. We were greeted at the pier and escorted to parking and the yacht. Sherry explained the amenities and yacht operations that we needed for the stay. She was very outgoing and come to find out she grew up about 15 miles from our home in Michigan.

The location in the harbor was close to the Navy Ship yard, hop on hop bus pick-up, and public transportation. Our days were filled with sight seeing and enjoying the Boston area. Unfortunately we only spent two days in Boston. Next visit must be longer to take in all the sights and actually experience Boston.

We loved the experience.
