About Elisabetta and Beatrice Spagnoli

My name is Elisabetta, I was born in Florence where I live with my husband, an architect, with my three wonderful cats and with my sons when they come back home from London where they study at university. I work for the European University Institute as an event organiser. I love sports, books, nature, travelling and beautiful environments.

Elisabetta and Beatrice Spagnoli purchased this apartment in 1975

Why Elisabetta and Beatrice Spagnoli chose Basilica of Santa Croce

I grew up in this apartment, my parents still live next door in the other part. They were art gallery owners, they have always loved being surrounded by art and antiques, and the apartment has been left exactly as it was when we lived there, full of amazing furniture and pieces of art. If you want to experience the feeling of a real home, furnished to live in, not to rent... well, this is the place.

What makes this apartment unique

The benefits of this place are many and I could boast them all, but I prefer to let you discover them by reading what one of our previous guests said about us, what better than a real experience?

"The apartment is stunning, including magnificent ceiling frescoes from the 16th century in the first floor bedroom. She gave us a complete tour of what was her childhood home, still owned by her and her family, of the place.

The location of the apartment really couldn't be better. It's a stone's throw from the Santa Croce Basilica, which is one of the most beautiful churches in Florence. It's also a very short walk to the Duomo, Uffizi and other piazzas of interest, as well as the Ponte Vecchio.

The apartment is truly unique, as it is built up around the core living room with vaulted ceilings (that was the old arms room of a 600 year old palace). The spiral stairs are truly one of a kind, and while maybe not appropriate for young children or elderly guests, make staying at this apartment feel like living in Renaissance Florence from the days of old.

However, don't let the authentic experience make you think that you'll be faced with medieval amenities; the apartment is fully upgraded where it counts in the kitchen and bathroom, and the beds were very comfortable in all three bedroom areas."

Outstanding Location

  • 5 of 5

This place is a great find. The price was less than 1/2 of the villa we booked in the country. The area is superb. The apartment is also very well kept and has everything we needed. The kitchen was simple but function-able. With all the great restaurants including the brilliant bakery/restaurant finesterre in sante croce. That is great place to get ones cappuccino and extraordinary croissant. The owners supplied a generous welcome amenity of wine and a very large fruit basket. We plan on staying again soon!

Unbelievably beautiful apartment so close to everything!

  • 5 of 5

Walking into this apartment really took everyone's breath away! We were visiting our daughter who is studying in Rome for the semester and took four days to visit Florence. I cannot say enough great things about this apartment! Very comfortable for our family of six plus my son's fiancee. The kitchen is very well-appointed... enough so that my son was able to cook a fantastic meal for our family. The beds are very comfortable, the bathrooms are great, and everyone loved the spiral staircase access to the 2nd floor bedrooms and 3rd floor loft. Our hosts were incredibly helpful and responsive... made for an unforgettable experience in Florence. Grazie!

Lived like a local

  • 5 of 5

I spent four days/nights at this apartment and it felt as if I was living at home. The apartment is exactly as the photos advertise - its beautiful and comfortable. After long days of sightseeing and glutinous eating, it was nice to go 'home' every night to relax in the comfort of the grand living room.

The apartment is centrally located, 5 min from the river, 13 min from the Duomo and two blocks from an active taxi stand (we never waited).

Although I did my own restaurant research the house came with a book of recommendations, so one rainy day we selected a nearby recommendation instead of walking across the city and it was great! We went back for our morning coffee and pastry three times (THANKS!).

The last time I was in Florence I stayed at a hotel, it was convenient but non memorable, staying here as part of my visit made the entire trip, not just the sights, a great lifetime memory!

Beautiful home in great location

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful home in a great location. It is exactly as pictured. From the entryway to the beautiful details throughout the home you are staying in an authentic Italian palace. Elisabetta is extremely helpful with information and even helped to arrange for an emergency dentist for us quickly in a stressful situation. We highly recommend her beautiful palace.

The apartment is around the corner from Piazza Santa Croce. It is within 5 minutes from Duomo, Uffizi and Ponte Vecchio. Moreover, it takes less than 1 minute to find an overwhelming number of restuarants, bars, pubs, breakfast places with delicious italian and foreign cuisines. However being the house a palace from the Renaissance period, you will not hear any noise from the outside.
