Enjoy this is a beautiful, private cottage nestled in the woods on a private road overlooking Martin's Cove inlet in Lamoine, Maine. Look out the French Doors to view the water from the kitchen or Great Room and enjoy the gentle breezes coming in from the cove. You may even spy some passing deer or on occasion even a moose or black bear. The cove is a favorite fishing spot for both bald eagles and Great Blue Heron. A peaceful wooded setting for your perfect family vacation in Maine.
This cottage was renovated in 2007 with a full modern kitchen and open dining overlooking a deck that faces the water. The living room has a new sleep sofa, while the master bedroom has a new queen bed. In the second bedroom you will find 2 trundle beds, all with new mattresses, that will sleep up to 4. This cottage is able to sleep up to 8 people perfect for a large family or friends traveling together. The large spacious bathroom features an over sized Corian shower, allowing easy access to everyone as well as a washer and dryer.
You really get the best of your vacation when staying at our cottage. Close to the attractions of Bar Harbor, but able to relax and unwind at your own “home” setting. This is the perfect place for families where privacy and relaxation are the goals. Great Ledge Acadia Cottage is only 20 minutes from Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island and just a few short miles to the city of Ellsworth for all your shopping necessities. This is the ideal starting point from which to explore and venture up the coast to visit Schoodic Peninsula, Quoddy Head Lighthouse or even Campobello Island. A PERFECT ESCAPE
*please note... the basement is closed off to weekly rental guests.
My family, which includes 2 teenagers, stayed at this home from 7.31.16 through 8.5.16. The home has been completely updated and was very clean. It had plenty of towels and linens, however the house does have a washer and dryer which we used just to stay on top of our own laundry. The location is ideal for those wanting to frequent Acadia and Bar Harbor but don't want all of the people (you can't see the neighbors' houses and we didn't see anyone else, other than the occasional car). It's only about a 15-20 minute easy drive from the house to the entrance of Acadia National Park, which we frequented every day. The house sits about 50 yards from the water which looks like a large lake but, in reality, is a Cove, meaning it is subject to high and low tides. We rented paddleboards for the week and the kids could paddleboard in the morning (we were introduced to high and low tides on this trip--low tide is about 4-5:00 a.m. and p.m. Consequently if you are wanting to be in the water, you have to wait until about 10:00 a.m. At high tide, I would estimate the water is 10-15 feet deep but calm--perfect for paddleboards) and then we went hiking in the afternoon in Acadia. Some evenings we would eat dinner in Bar Harbor or eat at one of the many lobster pounds on our way home. The house is about a 10 minute drive from a super Wal-Mart so you can easily stock up on the essentials. The grounds of the house were also extremely clean. We used the firepit every evening. The owners had plenty of cut wood for our use and they even had the pit filled and primed for the first night--all we had to do is throw a match on it! The place is great! The pictures don't do it justice. The glass wall faces due east and on my very first morning I sat on the deck and watched the sun rise. By far the best thing about this house are the owners. We have been staying at VRBOs for about 10 years. These owners were the best we've ever dealt with! We would love to come back and stay at this property.
Our family enjoyed your home,w/d convenient, loved the hammock.
We had a great time. The house was clean, stocked, and nicely decorated. We found it to be located close to many attractions and were never bored. We would definitely stay again and again.
My family and I were thrilled with our stay at the Great Ledge cottage. The location worked well for us, close enough that we drove to Bar Harbor and Mt. Desert Island every day. It was also close to Ellsworth where we purchased groceries. It was nice having the option to eat at the house or eat out at a restaurant. The home was immaculate, and most of the amenities were either new or like new. We loved the location on the water, and enjoyed sitting on the deck. This was our first experience using Home Away and renting from a private owner. We met both owners during our stay, who sought to ensure we enjoyed their home. We did! We would definitely stay here again.
THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS FOR THE MOST RELAXING AND FUN FILLED VACATION. Separated from the hustle and bustle of downtown Bar Harbor, but close enough to enjoy daily. You really get the best Acadia has to offer in this wooded waterfront cottage.
About 12 minutes to Mount Desert Island and all the wonderful things the island has to offer, you are also close to the towns of ELLSWORTH, BUCKSPORT, and BLUE HILL. Enjoy Acadia National Park and Lamoine State Park or take a day trip to CAMDEN or BELFAST.
FOR THE KIDS: ACADIA FUN PARK which offers water slides, go carts, mini golf, and a ropes course, and also the zoo. The Oceanarium on MDI has a great touch tack for the kids to explore ocean creatures up close and personally as well everything you wanted to know about lobsters.
