We built our home in 2004, cut from over 3 acres of woods in the heart of Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park. It sits 1 mile north of Somes Sound, and is within easy reach of hiking, biking, carriage roads, boat tours, and all of the shopping and restaurants to be found in the several quaint towns on the island.
We created our space to gather and connect with family and friends, and hope that you enjoy it, too.
Our home sleeps seven easily. The master bedroom has a king bed and is located on the main floor. Two bedrooms and a full bathroom are on the 2nd floor. The kitchen is fully-appointed to help you create memorable meals; dine inside on our farmhouse table, or eat on the deck. We also maintain a lovely kitchen garden, and welcome guests to pick what they need to round out their meals - it would be a shame for fresh produce to go to waste! After a busy day of adventuring in the park, relax in the deep jacuzzi master tub, or sit by the fire pit and cook S'mores.
Kirk and Claudine live, work, and raise a family on this beautiful island.
Kirk and Claudine Lurvey purchased this house in 2004
Whenever friends come to visit, we're reminded of how spectacular and special this area is. We're so happy to share it with guests.
This is definitely one of the best home that I've rented!! The house has EVERYTHING you need, the beds are comfortable, hot tub is amazing and the kitchen is fully stocked with all the tools and utensils enough for a big family--that was really important for me because I cook for my family everyday. The view around house is beautiful, and you can enjoy the sunrise/sunset lying in the hot tub. The location was also convenient, short drive to supermarkets or Acadia.
Thanks to Kirk and Claudine who were very nice and welcoming and made the whole process really easy and enjoyable for us. Also thanks for sharing their harvest from the garden with us...the carrots were delicious!!
I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is planning on driving around and staying for a few days. It is a great suit for family with children too. I am planning on coming back again sometime next year and bring my parents because they will enjoy here a lot!!!
We had a great time staying here and exploring Acadia and Bar Harbor. The house is spacious, beautiful and spotless. The property is very private and peaceful and a wonderful place to end a day of exploring!
We had such a great time staying in this beautiful place! The house and surroundings were absolutely beautiful. Downtown bar harbor is just a short drive away, as well as Acadia national park which was outstanding! It was great to be able to spend the day checking out the fall foliage and some local sights, and having this warm wonderful home to come back to! The house was clean, had everything we needed, Kirk was very responsive and accommodating,.Would absolutely recommend to everyone and would definitely stay here again!
This place called Fernhaven, was a haven! My family enjoyed this Oasis, in the midst of the Beautiful Desert Island woods, after a busy day in Acadia National Park, or Bar Harbor. I want to recommend this home to anyone, which is easily accessible from Bar Harbor Airport. The decor and accommodations were welcoming, with the guest pampered...with nothing ever needing...to include an array of vegetables from the garden! The Lurveys set you up before you even arrive, and are helpful throughout the whole stay! If you want to relax, the name is Fernhaven!

Renting this home was an excellent experience!! The beautiful setting in the Acadia National Park along with this wonderfully equipped home made our trip to Maine beyond our expectations. We would highly recommend staying here! The owners are great to work with, the home is beautiful and very clean.
I called the owners about their place, and they were at Fern Haven for themselves. I explained our situation - we didn't have anywhere to stay and needed a place for 7 people the next day - and they gave their place to us! They cleaned it, opened it earlier than initially scheduled, and texted with the directions. When we arrived their place was more than we anticipated. It accommodated all of us comfortably. Each of us were very pleased with the stay. The Lurvey's were great at communicating the entire time. Their internet access was flawless and reliable to do required work. Their vegetable garden was an additional plus as well as the fresh flowers and welcome basket! Great place, great owners, great time! We would definitely use it again.
Acadia National Park and the surrounding towns on Mount Desert Island offer a wide variety of activities for guests.
