About Steve Vollmer
We are a family of 5! We all love Cross Country running, tennis, biking, and, of course, vacations. Lisa and Steve met at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois.
Steve Vollmer purchased this House in 2012
Why Steve Vollmer chose Hermann
We have always enjoyed Hermann's historic homes, wines, Katy Trail, and the community's German roots. Jerry and Marilyn Snell have done wonders with this historic home. We couldn't pass ownership up.
What makes this House unique
We enjoy the privacy and the DeFlorin home's history. We are right next to the historic St. George Catholic Church, just a few blocks away from the bustle of downtown. What a great view of the valley!

This was a great place to stay with my girlfriends for my 40th!!
We were instructed to Check In at The Crown Suites. The reason I put 4 stars for Check In was the owner had let us know that we could check in anytime and then when we arrived at 1:30 our property was not ready. They said they would call us when it was ready and finally about 6:00 we called them. They said oh it was ready at 2:30, but they did not call.
Loved the property and owner provided some nice extra amenities! The stairs were definitely narrow and steep....but we were all in our 60's and managed with no problems! Be aware that there is no bathroom on the top floor with the two bedrooms...but in our opinion not a deal breaker! It was HOT in Hermann when we were there and the house was very cool....AC had no trouble keeping up! Loved the patio area for morning coffee!! Nice hot breakfast included at the Hermann Crown Suites just down the street!
Thank you again for your stay! Glad that you enjoyed Hermann and our property amenities. We are sorry about a bit of miscommunication regarding the home cleaning. All properties are ready by 3pm for check in per our description (and usually earlier). Guests can use our courtesy shuttle to the wineries before. Thank you again!
Everything was great and Steven was a great host!
Not for anyone over 50!
Picked this property based on 6 beds for 6 women who prefer to sleep alone, and 3 bathrooms, close to town. Vintage house sounded quaint - good reviews. BUT site should make a note that if your group is over 50 the STAIRS are NOT for your group. In fact we called them a death trap. I wear an 8 size shoe and foot wouldn't fit on steps - very steep - narrow. Walk in on 2nd floor, small living room (couch doesn't pull out)with bedroom - bathroom - go upstairs on steep/narrow steps 2 twins and queen. No bathroom which means 70 year old ladies in middle of night!! head to basement level which has nice size kitchen area and table for 6, then bathroom #2 another living room area with horrid couch bed that needs to be replaced, I slept on couch without folding out. queen bed with bathroom #3. So instead of everyone having a "bed" 2 couches were utilized as beds, 2 slept in queen on bottom level and one slept on third floor with a lined trashcan in case of need. Best way to access lowest floor was to go outside and use those steps to garden area. In fact a group was checking out of the Bi-Centineal house and asked to see our place and said. " thank God we didn't stay here" And they were in their late 30's. Sorry but in this case vintage just means big liability for owners when someone falls. It was clean and close to town!
Thank you for your stay with us. Hope that you enjoyed the courtesy shuttle, free breakfast, and free drink coupons to the Hermann1837 cellar bar. Yes, we have noted in VRBO that the historic home does not have a bathroom on the upper floor and yes the house was built with steep steps. Please come back and enjoy the beautiful and historic town of Hermann again!
We made this trip for a 30th birthday!! The house was amazing, rustic and clean. The house is definitely an older home and we loved the style, the only down side were the stairs inside! My husband is 6’5 and the stairs were very narrow, steep and had a low clearance! That is honestly the only thing we did not like which is just how buildings/stairs were for the older homes nothing that can be done about that. Otherwise we had an amazing time, our shuttle driver was fantastic and gave great recommendations on which wineries to try first and where the next stop should be. Everyone was very friendly and the town is very unique, something every should experience! We only wish we could have been staying longer to enjoy it even more! I would highly recommend renting this house or from this organization to anyone who was looking to make a trip.
