Angel's Watch is a lovely and spacious cedar home with eight bedrooms and six bathrooms. We are located in a wooded setting with tremendous scenic views. The floor plan allows for plenty of room to enjoy gathering with friends and family, but still have your own space. Charming wood floors, attractive gourmet kitchen, sunny great room, and a gorgeous stone fireplace. For those in your group that want to stay 'connected' we offer satellite television and wireless internet service. From June through August, splash in the community pool and hot tub just across the road.
A fantastic friends’ getaway or a family reunion (invite the cousins, too!). Along with the scenery and relaxing atmosphere you can enjoy activities like great shopping, outdoor adventures and small town festivals and events. Pet friendly, with an additional surcharge.
Berkeley Springs: Berkeley Springs is one of the best known arts towns in the Mid-Atlantic. Many practitioners of both the healing arts and visual arts have been attracted to the area for several centuries. It is a town of galleries, good food and a variety of 'alternative' and holistic therapists. Coolfont is a quiet, rustic retreat just a couple of miles outside of Berkeley Springs--the roads and cottages were designed in complete harmony with the landscape, maximizing both beauty and privacy. Cacapon State Park abuts the property and features a Robert Trent Jones golf course, fishing, and hiking.
The house was absolutely perfect for our group of 15. Every couple had their own
room and by having their own space the cabin was clean and spacious our whole
stay. The kitchen was great and the double oven made cooking for the group a lot
easier! Our whole group loved it so much they want to come back again in the
summer. The town of Berkeley Springs is very charming and a good city escape.
Also, Sarah made the reservation, payment and planning of the trip very simple
and hassle free. I would rent the cabin again and recommend it to friends.
Thanks for a great weekend getaway!
Our group of 13 rented Angel's Watch for our annual group vacation. We came in from TX, CA, MA, NH, and PA. BWI & Dulles are only ~2 hours from Angel's Watch; and for those driving, I-68, I-70 and I-81 provide easy access to Hancock, MD (about 10-12 miles from the house). The owner, Sarah, was wonderful to deal with...very helpful with information about the house and area as we planned our trip. She even mailed an envelope full of brochures about Berkeley Springs to me! The house is located in Coolfont Mountainside, a medium sized development about 10-15 minutes outside Berkeley Springs. It is nestled in the woods, but only a short walk to the tennis courts and pool (closed for the season when we were there). The house itself has plenty of room, the kitchen is spacious to work in. For an 8-bdrm house, it could use a little bigger refrigerator (or a second one in the utility room) but we made it work out fine. There is plenty of cabinet and pantry space. The bedrooms were comfortable, plenty of extra pillows and linens. Most of them had ceiling fans, something we really enjoy. Having 6 bathrooms was nice, and 3 are en-suite. Too many large rentals were built with too few bathrooms.
Be aware, the cell service is pretty spotty. The people in our group with AT&T were out of luck most of the time, but the Verizon users had much better coverage. The house is equipped with WiFi, but the speed was very slow. It may not be a major concern for most vacationers, but some folks need to have high speed access even when "getting away". The Food Lion in town is a very nice grocery store, and Tony's Butcher Block had nice meats for the grill.
As for our time in the area, the town of Berkeley Springs is lovely. Several of our group "took the waters" at the state park. Tari's Café in town was a great lunch spot. We rented bikes in Hancock, MD and rode on the Western MD Rail Trail, drove to Paw Paw, WV and walked the tunnel on the C&O Canal. Day trips to Johnstown, PA, the Flight 93 Nat Memorial, Gettysburg, Antietam, Harpers Ferry, and Cumberland, MD (Western MD Scenic Railroad) kept us busy. I imagine a little later in the year it would have been even better as the Fall colors cover the mountains! There are still things we left without having had a chance to do...maybe we'll be back again someday.
This property, while basically clean inside, is extremely well-worn and needs a lot of TLC. We were upset when we saw it, but after some cajoling, Sarah finally sent Tony to do some work. After he took up the extremely stained dining room rug up and cleaned some windows, it was better. Thanks to Tony, all appliances, etc., worked altho the oven was quite dirty. If there was a problem, Tony fixed it. Many lightbulbs were burned out and one of the outside ones was filled with bugs. Fixtures were often corroded. Furniture was old and covered with slipcovers. Siding hadn't been stained or painted for many years. Outside furniture was cheap and much of it was broken. Some windows didn't open or didn't close.
Positives were a nice, big dining room table, the lovely wooded lot, access to a great swimming pool and hot tub, and a nice location.
This house did what we needed it to do and was available without a lot of notice - it just needed some love and care.
We took some day trips. Kids went horseback riding at Cacapon State Park. We had a lovely road trip to the Paw Paw tunnel and the kids swam in the Potomac. Another time we might try to bring tubes. Ate at the Earthdog Cafe, but our group of 15 was a bit big for their capabilities. The food, when it finally arrived, was pretty good. Walked around Berkeley Springs a bit and had a nice ice cream near there to finish a lovely family weekend.
Clean, well stocked, very comfortable place for our family reunion. Plus, a fun town-Berkeley Springs, WV nearby. When the power went out on our first night, our 'emergency contact' responded to us immediately. A power line had gone out in the area but local authorities fixed it quickly and it was fun to be in the dark for a while. Only one suggestion-it would be great to have a place to recycle jars, cans, bottles, paper etc.
We rented Angel's Watch with our family friends; in total, we were four adults, four children. The house had the perfect amount of space for two families. The house's best features include the large dining area (we easily fit 8 people at the table); the deck and the screened-in porch; the beautiful view; large, well-stocked kitchen (in terms of pots and pans, utensils, etc.); six bathrooms; a play area in the basement; and proximity to the community pool/hot tub. We were a short drive (15 mins) to Cacapon State Park, where we went paddle boating and went to the lake beach. Good cell service/wi-fi as well.
The house is nice and comfortable. It's not luxurious or over the top; it was perfect for our vacation with four small children and four adults who needed a break from the everyday.
Sarah Bax was wonderful to work with, always responsive. We'll be back!
Sarah was wonderful to work with. Cell service is not great so we were able to use email. She answered immediately. Wifi was good. House in is decent shape. For the price it was a great stay. Bring your bug spray though.
The spacious cabin had adequate space for all 17 of us for a weekend. We loved the woods surrounding us and enjoyed the wildlife. Although none of us got to see a bear. We spent a lot of time on the deck. The children enjoyed riding ripsticks and scooters on the deck. They all ran off energy at the tennis court nearby. The bathrooms were clean ( a very important issue to us). We had some technical problems that Sarah tried to get us help for. It was 7 years since we enjoyed a weekend together.
Enjoy over 3500 square feet of living space in the quiet woods of the award winning Coolfont Mountainside community. Amazing wooded views from the deck and screened porch! Community amenities include swimming pool (seasonal), kiddie pool, hot tub, tennis courts, and basketball courts. Five miles from golf, swimming, boating, fishing, horseback riding, hiking, kayaking, and canoeing. Some of the best fly fishing in the East! Eight miles to town for mineral baths, spa, shopping, and dining. Ten miles to C & O Canal Bike Rail Trail along the Potomac River; also available for boating. Downhill winter skiing is available about 40 minutes away. Hunting is in season. Walk to creeks.
