We host many Groom's Families who stay together when they arrive for the wedding.

So beautiful we've named it 'Riverview' A Victorian Mansion on the Banks of Mississippi-

HUMAN RESOURCES Managers, the house is available for EXTENDED CORPORATE STAYS

15 minutes from the Quad Cities International Airport makes this location perfect for large group gatherings of up to 100 during the day and comfortable lodging for 12 for overnight stays. If you have larger groups, we have another restored Victorian just a few doors down in the same block.

The Spirit of Hospitality! Once you take the keys, you take over this mansion as if it were your own. We can supply our 5-star list of caterers, music and lighting contractors or you can provide your own.

This three-story 1894 mansion has been fully restored to its original splendor. The downstairs features a huge gourmet catering kitchen, dining room, library and parlor with two original fireplaces and a panoramic view from its bay windows of the lighted Centennial Bridge and the mighty Mississippi River in Davenport, Iowa.

Hand-painted vaulted “sunrise” ceiling and hand-carved grand staircase for spectacular debuts of blushing brides for all guests to see. 2nd Floor features a huge landing and four bedrooms complete with four complete baths. The master bedroom makes a perfect place for the bride and her maids to prepare because there is an additional connected parlor. This leaves four spare rooms for the groom and family members.

Once featured in the “Save this Old House” section of This Old House Magazine, this house has had a wonderful history. We’ve replaced or restored all hardwood floors, moldings, leaded windows, light fixtures, tiled entryway and marble fireplaces using local artisans and craftsmen. Period antiques have been gathered and refurbished to exactly complement the mansion. The spectacular entryway frescoes were discovered under layers of paint and have been meticulously restored. Seven different complementary colors highlight the intricate details of the exterior of the house surrounded by attractive landscaping.

Restoring this house has been our dream and has taken us years to complete but we are finally ready to welcome you to our home.

IF YOU NEED ANOTHER HOUSE, WE'VE RESTORED ANOTHER JUST AROUND THE CORNER, SO IF ONE IS BOOKED, WE HAVE AVAILABILITY AT THE OTHER!

Adolph Priester House

The Priester house at 811 7th Street is now ready-fully restored and available for rental. This is the house we stay in when we are in Davenport, Iowa, and we consider it our home. It is equally as nice as the Witt house (The House listed on VRBO), and is actually larger - one more bedroom, plus the 3rd floor suite which can accommodate four people. I love it because the master bedroom is on the first floor and there is a separate tub and shower in the en suite bath as well as another full bath on the first floor. The dining room is much larger, and the kitchen is larger also, although only one stove, not two. The downstairs living room is a little smaller, but there is a big family room-parlor on the second floor. Of course, several TV’s and wi-fi is available. Not so much off street parking, but ample for 3 cars because you can use the driveway of the house next door (817 7th Street) which we own as well, but have not yet finished restoring. It is a wonderful Queen Anne and actually Sandy’s favorite.

About Lois and Maurice Woods

We are a family of restorers. We love old houses and when we drove through Davenport on the way to the World's Fair in 1964, we vowed that one day we would come back and buy a mansion. Little did we know that it would be a 'Save This Old House' 40 years later! It has been a labor of love and at times we wondered if we would ever finish! Every molding has been stripped or recreated, pocket doors discovered, chandeliers tracked down in other cities, hardware sleuthed on eBay. We've taught ourselves to restore tile, recreate original stencils and we painted the vaulted 'sunset sky' ceiling lying on our backs on a 30-foot scaffold. It has all been worth it!

Lois and Maurice Woods purchased this estate in 2006

Why Lois and Maurice Woods chose Davenport

It had always been our dream to restore a mansion on the Mississippi. The friendly open welcome of our Iowa neighbors has been warm and inviting. We feel we have come home to the Heartland. Saving this gem from destruction has been incredibly satisfying. We've met wonderful neighbors and feel as though we have given something back to our community by reviving this piece of local charm.

What makes this estate unique

Travel back 120 years to a time when you would have arrived down at the dock by steamboat or down at the station by steam locomotive. Enjoy a trip back in time while enjoying all the amenities of the present.

This is a wonderful party or family reunion house. This house is just a short walk to the Mississippi river with its restaurants and casinos or to the Palmer Chiropractic College.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We rented your home two years ago for my niece's graduation and loved it. This year my son is the graduate and I'd love to rent it again.

Amazing house!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed with 3 other couples for two nights. The house was fantastic. Everything was remarkably clean and all of the rooms were extremely comfortable. Highly recommend if you have a large party and want to spend quality time together.

Fun and fascinating

  • 5 of 5

My husband, son and I rented this Victorian mansion with my sister and her family -- 9 adults total -- to attend the wedding of our niece. We were all delighted with the Mansion. Beautifully renovated, every room filled with fantastic antiques, every detail of the home from window treatments to murals to light fixtures and door hinges was taken into account during the renovation. The house is well supplied and spacious. Everyone had fun choosing their bedroom, as each is decorated uniquely. We loved exploring the neighborhood (lots of renovations in progress) of this historic town and hiking into Davenport. Sunday morning we comfortably hosted a brunch for the family (30 of us in all) before departing in this lovely home.

Love the character of the home. Lots of room for everyone.

  • 4 of 5

Our ladies golf group stayed two nights to golf at a couple courses close by. There was plenty of bedrooms & bathrooms for us. Everyone commented the beds were very comfortable. Lots of sitting rooms to hang out. Enjoyed the large dining room table to play games at night & breakfast in the morning. Gave four stars because the West bathroom upstairs shower handle did not work; couldn’t get any hot water. The other two showers were awkward. Very high sides; difficult to get in & out. The tub was small & slick bottom. No place to put toiletries. Seemed dangerous. Could hear a lot of traffic noise at night. Overall everyone enjoyed their stay & recommend it.

Beautiful House

  • 4 of 5

The furnishings in this house are beautiful. We enjoyed the well-equipped kitchen, fun dishes, large dining room table, and the comfortable beds. The location of the house was convenient for the places we visited. Most of all it was nice to have a place to stay for our get-away and to enjoy some down time with the entire family.

Staycation weekend for 10 Bettendorfers in a magnificent home ( better than Galena )

  • 5 of 5

Lois and Maurice Woods have done a magnificent job of remodeling and updating this elegant mansion in Davenport. A short walk to the Farmers Market and downtown Davenport it is a great place to "get away" with your friends. The good people of the Quad Cities are missing a huge opportunity. Why drive 2 hours to Galena with this gem in your back yard. It very comfortably fits 10-12 adults. Clean and beautifully decorated rooms with 12 foot ceilings on the main floor, a great kitchen, new mattresses, plenty of newly updated bathrooms, a large dining area and sitting rooms. Given the quality of this home, the price they ask is a huge bargain. I encourage you to support the Woods family who have restored this magnificent older home. Enjoy a memorable weekend with your friends.
