About this property

Haliburton Lakefront Sleeps 12 -7 Boats Included + 2 Swim Rafts & 2 King Beds

The front of the cottage is a 38-foot screened-in verandah, facing west, over-looking the lake. It is a very comfortable spot to sit and enjoy the view of the lake or sunset; Choose to sit in one of our cedar muskoka chairs, our old fashioned swing, or on our wicker sectional. There is a hummingbird feeder just outside the screen which is visited often by birds and the occasional raccoon.
Through the verandah doors, you will enter our family room/common area with reclining sofas, a stone floor to ceiling fireplace and a 48" tv. There is satellite Tv, roku, wifi, dvd plus movies, and sound bar.
The common area also has two dining tables for all to sit around and eat or play games.
The kitchen includes a refrigerator/freezer (also another full size one on the verandah), a stove, microwave, coffemaker, 4-slice toaster, blender, Keurig, dishwasher, water cooler and all dinnerware, pots/pans, bakeware you will need.
There are four bedrooms. The first bedroom off of the kitchen, is a king size bedroom with a toilet and sink facility and a wide screen Roku tv with satellite. The second bedroom is a smaller room off of the tv area with a queen size bed and a tv. The third bedroom also has a king size bed and a tv. The fourth bedroom is what we would consider the kids room, with two bunks beds. The first bunkbed has two single beds and the second bunkbed has two double beds, so this room sleeps 6 altogether. The main bathroom is between bedroom 3 and 4, and consists of a toilet, sink and full size bathtub/shower facility.
The king beds only include sheets, but blankets and pillows are provided for all.
There is also a closet full of board games and playing cards.
Off the verandah, outside, is a side deck with more cedar muskoka chairs and a barbecue (propane included). There is a firepit (firewood included), picnic table, benches and a large tree hammock all ready for your enjoyment. The playground located on the opposite side of the cottage to the lakefront, is the small child play area with a slide and swing.
We also have a TyeDee Steel Bin outside for your garbage, to keep animals (including raccoons, bears, etc) away.

7 Boats are Included:
-12 Foot aluminum rowboat
-14 Foot aluminum (takes up to a 30 HP outboard engine not supplied)
-16 foot canoe
-9 foot Pelican Zest (sit on) Kayak
-10 foot Kayak (sit in)
-5 person paddleboat
-18 foot Crosswind Tandem (2-person) Sea Kayak.
Assortment of life jackets, oars, paddles, anchors, ropes, and whistles included.
Off our dock, it is quite shallow for swimming, with a gradual incline in depth and a nice sandy bottom. Great swimming area for children. We have two swim rafts; one with a slide to cool off and plunge into the lake, and the other is great to jump off of, but also a haven for sun-worshippers with built-in lounge chairs with cupholders.
Our lake is a three lake chain made up of Big Boshkung, Little Boshkung and Twelve Mile Lake. There is great fishing whether you want to fish off of the dock or from one of our boats. The species found in our lakes include lake trout, small and largemouth bass, yellow perch, lake whitefish and pike.
There is also a boat launch, which is walking distance from our cottage; if you bring your own boat.

Quintessential Ontario Family Cottage but...
Overall, we enjoyed our stay at this quintessential Ontario lakefront cottage for our annual family vacation including the dogs. The cottage is relatively private from the neighbors. The lake was not too busy and the location was good for supplies (the bakery in Carnarvon) and water. We very much enjoyed the screened in porch (almost all meals), open deck (BBQ & drinks), the dock, swimming area and boats. The beds were some of the best cottage beds we have encountered. However, cleanliness of the kitchen and bathroom was an issue. We arrived late in the day and when starting dinner discovered that plates were not clean - there was residual food on some. When we got the draining board and dish rack out we discovered that both, particularly the rack, were grungy. Everything was now going in the dishwasher. The cutlery also needed a wash and particularly the cutlery tray which had crumbs and other bits. It all took two dishwasher loads. Very disappointing to always have to inspect every pot and utensil before use. And then there was the bathroom. It didn't take much to see the brown streaks on the side of the toilet tank by the flush handle. Thank goodness we had a container of pandemic antiseptic wipes. We have two non-shedding poodles but found we swept up a lot of hairs from other dogs when cleaning up to leave. The slope from cottage to lake was steeper than expected from the photos and children will need close supervision. The swimming was great for kids & adults.

Carnavon Rustic Cottage
Rustic, good beds, nice enclosed porch in good weather, great property manager, beach area for kids, dock for big boy toys, play area with swing and slide. Found a good fishing area for kids. Path to dock and beach can be a challenge (I wear glasses with bifocals). Overall good place for large family with kids.

Great Family vacation
This property was well-equipped with lots of games and water activities for all 6 of my grandchildren to enjoy. They loved the water slide, kayak and paddleboat in particular and being able to walk into the water from shore was great. The cottage is rustic but comfortable. The rock steps going down to the water are challenging though. Overall a wonderful family vacation.

Pretty nice cottage
Laurie was really good at communicating the information and answering our questions before and during the trip. Easy arrival. The cottage was well equipped inside with small appliances. Outside had kayaks, canoe and paddleboat like described on the ad. Expect lots of uneven stairs going down to the lake. It might be an issue with small kids and people will mobility issues. At night we needed to bring flashlights otherwise it was pretty tricky to get to the dock. We stayed the first 2 weeks of August. With no air conditioning at night it was very very hot even while using all the fans that were there. Be prepare for squirrel nuts harvesting season! They dropped the nuts on the uninsulated tin roof. It was insane the noise night and day! Overall very nice trip though. Great location, close to hiking and atv trails, The Boshkung brewery 15 min away by walking. Very warm lake for swimming and great fishing too!

About the host

My grandparents bought the land in 1969 after renting a cottage for many years on Gull Lake. The cottage was completed in 1970. It was their dream to own a place where their family could all spend holidays and family time together and reconnect. My grandparents had two children (my aunt and my dad) and my aunt and dad each had two children, so the ten of us would spend every long weekend at the cottage, and would share time the rest of the summer, and even sometimes in the winter. Spending holidays and family time together connected us, and gave us so many great memories that we will cherish forever.

Why they chose this property

My grandparents picked this lot because they imagined sitting on their verandah each evening and watching the sun set together. As in much of Haliburton, there is a lot of natural rock on the land the cottage is built on, yet the swimming area is a sand bottom which is comfortable on the feet which was a must for my grandmother. She did not want to swim anywhere there was seaweed!

What makes this property unique

Our cottage has a lot of family history for us that we greatly cherish but wish to share. The swing on the verandah was my great-grandmother's swing that she had on her front porch when my grandma was a little girl. There are a few wooden board games in the closet that my grandfather made with his own hands and we still enjoy. My grandfather's snowshoes that he used to use to use in winters at the cottage, are on the wall in one of the bedrooms. When we were kids, my cousins, brother and I, made a fort in the woods, and years later when my kids were around the same age, they made a fort in the exact same location with their cousins. It is a history and memories that we will cherish forever and hope our guests make their own memories at Reid cottage and will return.
