About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 4 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Pictures coming soon of newly remodeled great room. Freshly painted from floor to 30 ft. ceiling, quartzite counter tops and backsplash, tiled kitchen and dinning room, expanded kitchen, new bar area as well as finishing touches like larger kitchen, induction stove, new windows, fans and updated lighting. Pantry moved into kitchen and old pantry converted to full bath. All work done by Fred Brady who designed and built Laurel Point Cottage VRBO.com/708246. Like the scenery my pictures won't do it justice.

LAUREL POINT VILLA

A perfect getaway in beautiful Meadows of Dan, Virginia. The 4000 square feet home features 3 large bedrooms with privacy, one king, one queen and two doubles, each with full private bath and tub, as well as door to the deck. It's just like having three master bedrooms. Need even more room. Combine VRBO.com/708246 which is next door. It adds a two bedrooms and two bath cottage with similar long range views, two decks, chef designed kitchen, radiant floor heat and other amenities.

The 1400 square feet great room has gas fireplace and huge windows to enjoy the 75 mile views from it's ridge location. Full kitchen features new refrigerator, Jenn-Air stove, coffee maker, dishwasher and microwave. You can play CD's and DVD's on the Bose 3.2.1 entertainment system.

House is located near North Carolina - Virginia border about 4 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway. For those interested in wine and viticulture, Chateau Morrisette, Virginia's largest winery, and Villa Appalachia are within five miles of the property. Chateau Morrisette features musical festival throughout the summer, as well as free Sunday concerts on the grounds. No trip would be complete without a Friday night in Floyd. The Country Store is alive with flat footing and bluegrass bands form in the alleys and on corners. It is a must see.

Experience nature's gradeur from the expansive deck with it's long views. Spring is showy with Mountain Laurel and Rhododendron, summer abounds with the flowery garden and aviary acrobatics and fall is spectacular as color drifts down the mountains side.

Get out in nature with easy walks from the Parkway like Smart View or stroll down the well worn path beside in Rock Castle Gorge. An exhilarating hike to Buffalo Mountain (once owned by the Robet E. and Harry Lighthorse Lee's family) can be made on a well graded trail leading to the almost 4000 foot peak and expansive 360 degree view.

Visit Fairy Stone Lake and experience the only place to find the mystical Fairy Stone or sink your hook in the Keibler Valley for mountain trout. Bike the Virginia Creeper Trail, Galax Trail or Blue Ridge Parkway. Raft the Dan River and experience the Zip Line nearby. This area has it all.

Golfers, take a swing at Primland's Highland Course rated by Golf Digest as the best new public course in 2006. Add Olde Mills Golf Resort and Great Oaks in Floyd, all within 15 miles of the house.

About Bill Day

We're a North Carolina guy and a Kentucky girl who lives in Florida and has a beautiful home in Virginia. And yes, I have done the impossible and converted a Kentucky girl to a Tar Heel basketball fan.

Bill Day purchased this house in 2005

Why Bill Day chose Blue Ridge Highlands

While dating, we visited a Christmas Tree farm in Meadows of Dan and loved it. We decided to get married there and in looking for a minister, we also looked for land. We wanted long range views and finally found a lot in Edgeview Estates just off Belcher Mountain Road.

In 2005, I was hating my job and decided to try one more backpacking trip. Went to the Smokies and came out with a couple of days left on my vacation. I decided to go up to our lot and take a sunrise picture that I could put in my office to keep my spirits up. I drove in early one morning and set up the tripod and waited for the sun. It was okay, but not a trophy shot. Packed everything up and headed back up Belcher mountain. Between my comings and goings, someone had put a for sale sign in front of Laurel Point.

I met the owners at the house and it was a glorious day. I think I could see Canada. I was known as a fierce negotiator but I was putty in their hands. I knew I had to have that house. They came down a little and I offered them my sweaty handshake. It takes nerves to buy a house without your new bride having seen it. Obviously all is well that ends well.

We decided that the worst thing we could do with the house is just let it sit there. We're 11 hours away and are lucky to visit 2 or 3 times a year. So far we have had excellent guests and feel good about sharing our house.

Hope you come and visit. It's beautiful during the spring, cool in the summer and spectacular in the fall. Notice I didn't mention winter. A little too cool for this Tar Heel converted Floridian.

Bill

What makes this house unique

Backpacked for over 30 years and the view from the deck is in my top five favorites in the Southern Appalachians .

Guestbook comments from the owner

From Guest Book: Bill and Mary, your dream house is fantastic. The place has

wonderful amenities and rooms that are so spacious and sereene - and so

comfortable. We loved the deck and the spectacular view. I'd come back any

time of year knowing it would be beautiful. We did the local sites. "Oddfellas"

on a Friday night is a must. Thanks so much. We hope to return. (I shall

return). P.S. When I first got here I slept dreaming the usual mixed-up, lost,

frenetic dreams. After a few serene days and nights I dreamt sweet, happy

dreams.

Looks as Advertised, View is Amazing as well as the Owner!!

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of six, three couples. Myself along with another, enjoyed just being in the house and cooking on the stove, however the 4 others are outdoors-mans so we did do some activities in the area. Specifically we went mountain biking at Primland, which is absolutely beautiful, and we did Dan River Adventures. There was plenty of wildlife to see around the house, which I personally am not a fan of, however we did see a large Luna Moth, which despite my disdain of insects I found quite beautiful. The owner, Bill, is very understanding and accommodating. Our last day there the "outdoors-mans" of the group booked a canoe with Dan River Adventures. Our checkout time was noon but we wound up on the water until 3pm. My phone didn't get reception, one of our canoes flipped over, and one of our group members got the river water in his mouth (which is quite stagnant) and it made him sick. So on the way back to the house we kept having to stop so that he could throw up. When I finally got in contact with Bill to apologize for how insanely late we were he was not upset and was really just concerned for our safety and making sure we were ok. In a nutshell the house is nice, kitchen amazing, owner accommodating and friendly, and there is wildlife if you are into that and plenty to do in the area. As a side note we were a group of all minorities and were worried that we may experience some biased treatment, but we had nothing but good experiences with everyone we encountered when we went out. Everyone was friendly and inviting.

Owner's Response: There is some nice rafting in the area. Obviously don't recommend Dan Rivers Adventures (note that it doesn't say "Good Adventures"). In Floyd there is a company "On the Water" that operates on the Little River. Very calm and relaxing. First section can be floated with inner tubes and hardly any ripples. Second section is for their canoes and kayaks. Again not very challenging but the water is clean, cool and the scenery pretty. If you want challenges then look to New River or some of the rivers in nearby Kentucky or West Virginia. Glad this story ended well.

If you want to view heaven on earth, then this is the place.

Fabulous, spacious accommodations. Well stocked, more than you could ask for and the view...breathtaking. We love Laurel Point. My husband is disabled and because of the wonderful open floor plan, he had easy access throughout the house. Magnificent new state of the art kitchen. Can't say enough great things about this place!

Beautiful property! Breathtaking view! Charming ambience!

  • 4 of 5

My family and I (6 people) stayed at this property for two nights and we loved it. It has an inviting atmosphere and the view is always a topic of discussion. The kitchen was my favorite place to be and I was quite impressed by the appliances (I've never boiled an egg so fast!). It is a nice home tucked away in the mountains but worth the drive.

Owner's Response: Just in case you are wondering about the comment "I've never boiled an egg so fast" we have just installed an inductive stove. Pretty amazing. We were turned on to it by our chef son.

Great home with amazing views

  • 5 of 5

This is an amazing home with the most spectacular mountain views. We spent most of our time outside enjoying the view and the perfect Spring weather in Meadows of Dan, VA. The newly renovated kitchen is beautiful! The owners are extremely accommodating and thoughtful. This place has all of the amenities that you can imagine, they really have thought of everything. The owners, Bill and Mary, were very helpful in supplying us with information about the area prior to our visit so that we could map a daily itinerary. We have three girls ages 9, 13 and 15 and we had the right balance of relaxation time and outdoor activities in the surrounding area. We have been using VRBO for several years now and this is one of the best experiences we have had, mainly due to the owners being so accommodating. We will definitely go back. Also, I highly recommend waking early to watch the sun rise over the mountains - truly amazing.

We loved our stay here. The house is beautiful, the view is amazing... the picture of it does not do it justice. The house was fully supplied, from paper towels to Netflix. The owner is very accommodating, nice and helpful.

Gorgeous Home in Amazing Setting

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed this beautiful home with two other couples for a week of exploring, hiking, shopping and eating. We had a wonderful, relaxing time. The home was fully equipped and the spacious layout was very conducive for large gatherings around the open concept kitchen, dining and living room. Each couple had their our own over-sized bedroom and private bathroom affording privacy and comfort. The real bonus though was the enormous multi-leveled back deck with its breathtaking views--perfect for wine sipping and visiting. Plenty of site seeing around Meadows of Dan and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Floyd is also a must on a Friday night for music lovers. We are looking forward to our next visit.
