My husband and I have been married for sixteen years. We have seven children and a loyal golden doodle. We live in Southwest Florida (near Naples) most of the year, but we are originally from New England and New York. We are huge mountain enthusiasts and nature lovers.
Catherine Ruth Pakaluk purchased this chalet in 2015
My husband and I have vacationed in the White Mountains since we started dating over sixteen years ago. We've come year after year, bringing our growing family, hiking the same trails. Now our big kids carry our little kids up the same paths they were carried on as babies. After so many years, we wanted a place to call home, a place that would be our spot. In the summer of 2012 we rented this charming chalet with stunning valley and wilderness views and just the perfect location for a family vacation. We got to know the owner--a wonderful family man who built the chalet for his family in the late 70s. We remembered the place fondly ever since. When we saw this darling mountain home pop up in the listings in the spring of 2015, we thought it was meant to be. We could hardly believe it. Our favorite rental spot ever! We made an offer, spent the summer of 2015 updating the interior and exterior, and the rest is history. We've promised the original owner we'll try to honor the spirit of his chalet--it was the first property built on our road. A little piece of Glen/Bartlett history.
We think Sparrow's Nest has one of the best views in the White Mountain Valley. Tongue and groove pine walls and ceilings, exposed beams, and a brick fireplace give this chalet a warm, woodsy feel. Combined with the expansive valley views we think it's about the quintessential retreat spot. There is absolutely nothing that comes close to sitting on the private deck, taking in the views, with the grill smoking or the fireplace crackling.
The only negative is the furniture is old and ou dated. I would book it again.
My family and I truly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful mountainside chalet! The views were breathtaking, the home was cozy and clean and the owners were wonderful!
Thank you Catherine for a fantastic experience...we are anxious to return again next year!
Myself and some other students from the Outing Club from my university stayed at this property for a week while we explored the White Mountains. It was such an amazing property and had all the amenities we could need. Having two kitchens was especially useful so as to not wake up people who weren't getting up at 5am for an extra-long hike. The location was also fantastic, almost everywhere we needed to go was within an hour. Also, you just can't beat that view.
My husband and I stayed here for a few days and absolutely loved it. We had stayed in the White Mountains before, but this place ranks as one of the best due to the incredible view from the back deck and the overall comfort and appeal of the house. We never tired of eating out on the back deck, taking in the beauty of our surroundings. The house itself was tastefully decorated, neat and tidy, and had plenty of useful appliances and utensils. (We particularly appreciated the speedy Bunn coffee maker!)
The house easily fits many guests, and the downstairs even has a kitchen of its own.
We definitely would recommend this place to friends and family and plan on visiting again soon. We can only imagine how gorgeous it must be in the Fall!
We were blown away by how incredible the views were. the pictures do not do it justice. The house is exactly as described and pictured. The house was clean, well managed, and everything worked perfectly. The bathrooms are clean and they even provided fresh towels for the stay. The house comes fully equipped to do all of your cooking at the house and the meals on the deck were our favorite part! We didn't have to bring anything, except our suitcases, because the house has sheets, pillows and blankets, which were clean and well made. This made packing up for the trip on both ends so much faster and easier. The house is incredibly close to so many attractions, but we chose to do hiking and Storyland with the kids. I can't wait to go back this winter to ski with some friends at Attitash! I will be booking this house again. I highly recommend!
