Overview

Photos and Description of this Ludlow holiday house

4 BR, 3 Bath with 300' lake frontage, private yard and lots of living space.

This is the perfect location for a fabulous winter vacation (fall & summer are awesome, too!) Imagine waking up each morning to the quiet beauty of the lake covered with fresh snow. Load your Okemo pass on-line from the house and head right to the slopes, just 5 minutes away! If you love to cook, the kitchen is well appointed so you can whip up something wonderful. Otherwise, eat at one of the fabulous restaurants downtown or just grab a pizza! Play games, watch movies or just chill by the fire (wood provided!)...All the simple pleasures!

My slogan is "keep it simple". When you arrive, beds are made with crisp, clean linens & down comforters and fresh towels are stacked in the bathroom. Just show up! My house fairies will be sure everything is neat and clean when you arrive and after you leave. No fuss. No stress. I want you to relax and enjoy!

This spacious lakefront cottage has everything you need to create wonderful memories that will last a lifetime. With 3 floors of living space, there is plenty of room for everyone to have privacy, but then gather together for meals or to share stories of the day's adventures. And for couples or smaller families who don't need or want the sprawl, everything you need is right on the main living floor, giving it that comfortable, cozy cottage feel.

Fresh bath and bed linens are provided for each guest and beds have new, comfortable mattresses and pillows. The kitchen has a microwave and dishwasher and K-cup coffee maker. There is also a washer and dryer available if you need it.

In the summer, the 1+ acre yard with horseshoe pits, volleyball net, hammock, huge deck & fire pit make entertaining a breeze! Swim, kayak and fish right off the new dock in the deep, clear water.

The large deck has an umbrella table and chairs and a Weber gas grill. Stairs off one side lead to a side yard with a shed that holds the yard and water toys, extra chairs, etc. The large fire pit is also on that side, with views of the lake. Stairs off the other side lead to the larger yard where you'll find another eating table tucked under the pines and lit with tiki torches for evening dinners al fresco. There you will also find the horseshoe pits, hammock and a wide path gently sloping down to the waterfront. There's a brand new dock and two kayaks - one double and one single. Paddles and life preservers are in the shed.

Lake Pauline is peaceful and quiet, but Lake Rescue is directly behind us and allows power boats. The boat ramp is 1/2 mile down the road. The best of both worlds!!

In the winter, ice skate, snowmobile (VAST trails) or snowshoe right from the front door. Okemo is 5 minutes (Jackson Gore is even less!), Killington is 25 minutes and Pico is about 30 minutes away. In the evening, gather for a meal, games or a movie. A large, see through fireplace adds warmth and charm to both living room and kitchen/dining room!

In the fall, grab a blanket and a cup of coffee and head out to the Adirondack chairs to watch the mist rise off the lake and listen to the geese fly overhead.

The main floor has a bedroom with double bed and a bedroom with a twin. The bathroom on this floor is very large and has a bath tub (there are also safety rails in this bathroom by tub and toilet, if you have guests who need some extra support).

Upstairs is the master bedroom suite with king bed and small full bath. A second bedroom has a queen bed and two twins. Both bedrooms have skylights and French balconies.

The lower level suite has an additional living area and full bath. There is a couch, TV and stereo and a second room with a daybed with trundle and large game table. (Note: Since this area does not have proper egress, it cannot be used as a bedroom.)

Buttermilk Falls is a popular swimming and picnic spot throughout the summer and fall. Deep, cool pools are at the base of each of 3 sets of falls, cascading down through the woods. They are only 2 miles away and can be reached by car or bike.

The town of Ludlow has a variety of interesting shops, great restaurants and you can't beat the Jackson Gore Adventure Park when the kids need some excitement. They also hold a free concert every Friday night in the summer that is always fun!

I love my 'cottage' and this area and feel so fortunate to have such a beautiful, spacious spot on the lake. I am happy to share it with others who are looking to refresh, reconnect & renew. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have.

About Bernie Bolton

I reside in CT and have always wanted to live on a lake. Finding this house in Ludlow - an area I love! - was pure fate!

I have done home exchanges in the past and really enjoyed the experience. I love sharing what brings me joy and I trust people to treat it as though it were their own.

I have 2 grown children and a Boxer named Abbie. Pets are generally not allowed, but trained, well-behaved pets will be considered since I know they are part of your family, too.

Bernie Bolton purchased this house in 2015

Why Bernie Bolton chose Ludlow / Okemo Mountain Area

I fell in love with Ludlow 20 years ago and fall in love all over again each time I drive into town. It has everything anyone could want -- interesting shops featuring talented artists; world-class golf; sensational skiing; beautiful lakes, streams and waterfalls; friendly people and breathtaking views all around.

Burlington is a good day trip and Manchester, Woodstock, Rutland, Bennington & Lake George are all within an hour's drive. But honestly? You won't leave Ludlow! :)

What makes this house unique

I've just recently purchased this home and want to create a "cottage" experience. I do not want a home to be featured on 'Cribs' -- I want a home where you walk in and feel at peace. Like perhaps you've stepped back in time a bit to a simpler life at a slower pace.

Yes, there is wifi and cable TV and Bose surround sound & a dishwasher. If you need them. But there are also kayaks and fishing poles and jigsaw puzzles and a squeaky screen door. So I encourage you to unplug and enjoy life's simple pleasures.

Thanksgiving Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We spend Thanksgiving in Vermont every year and this house was just perfect for our needs! Bernie was very helpful and accommodating! The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed, the bedrooms were spacious and comfortable and everything was very clean. There were even toys, towels and a bed for our dog! My husband enjoyed the outdoor fire pit (too cold for the rest of us!) and we even took our family Christmas card picture down near the lake. We enjoyed our stay at Tapestry Pines very much and hope to come back again in the warmer months! Thank you, Bernie, for a wonderful Thanksgiving getaway!

Amazing time away

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this lovely home for several days in mid October. The house is warm, spacious and very comfortable. It is very well organized and we easily found all we need. The porch overlooking lake and surroundings are stunning and you have all you need and more for enjoyable time inside and out. The location is perfect for hiking, biking or simply walking around in neighborhood during fall season and we did used kayak. It is close to many state parks and we visited several of them for an unforgettable foliage experience. We had 2 small children and dog with us and house had all we need so we can feel at home !

Thank you Bernie for opening your lovely home for us. It is very special! We sure will be planning to come back sometime again!

Ally and family.

Great Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Tapestry Pines is a great family getaway! The Bolton's are great hosts and definitely thought of everything we need! Plenty of wood for the fireplace (got down into the 30s), fully stocked cabinets with plates and silverware and cooking utensils. Nice big yard that our girls enjoyed thoroughly! Played bocce ball, horse shoes, and Frisbee. Beds are very comfortable! We would definitely stay here again! The Vermont Country Store in Weston is a must visit!!

A Family Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a chance to truly relax and share different activities of interests in Bernies Tapestry Pines! The home is situated enough to feel alone in the woods to allow my reading and my dog to sleep at my side. The home is situated one minute walk or 3 minute kayak ride to a swimming hole that my son always wanted to go to:) Tha lake water was a comfortable temperature and felt soft on our skin when cooling off for a dip or kayaking around tugging my son in the many floatations devices available. My dog enjoyed a kayak ride with me in Bernies 2 person Kayak and my husband and son fished in the sunset in the canoe. I enjoyed morning walks with my dog within the quiet pine trees and soft gravel streets around both lakes . The hikes are listed in Bernies Book from easy to hard so we all had a chance to experience the woods and waterfalls! And for some lively excitement the Okemo adventure park has a lot for every family member .

Bernies tapestry pines is clean and organized home with everything you need! The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are move in condition. The kitchen is well stocked and my husband was excited to use the variety of pans available and my son provided many treats baking! The view and atmosphere of the home is the overall charm; it's breathtaking to wake up and have coffee on the deck overlooking the quiet lake. Bernie was exceptional with being available for any questions and is a true hostess! Our special memory of this Tapesty Pines is that my elderly mother drove to surprise us; ahh a perfect family retreat !

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for sharing your memories and for being an outstanding guest. What Dianne was too kind to mention is that the refrigerator stopped working at the beginning of their week and I was unable to get a replacement while she was there because the nearest appliance store is in Manchester and they couldn't deliver that quickly. Oh no!! Luckily, I have an extra refrigerator downstairs as a backup, but Dianne and her family were incredibly understanding and gracious about having to schlep up and down all week for their food! I do my very best to make sure everything is perfect for my guests, but when things do happen out of my control, working with such kind and gracious people makes offering my home to guests even more enjoyable and is GREATLY appreciated!! (I'll be sending you a little something for your trouble!)

Pure Joy & Relaxation!

  • 5 of 5

Our family (grandma, parents, kids and dogs included!) thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Tapestry Pines and Lake Pauline. My husband worked with the owner, Bernie, to book everything, and she made everything simple and was prompt and helpful. The home is very welcoming, clean and comfortable. The deck is fantastic for relaxing & even eating al fresco in the warm weather. We loved the lake - clear & clean & perfect for kayaking and swimming. We used the 2 kayaks & innertubes provided every day and had a blast. We also rented an SUP for a couple days, which we would recommend if you don't have your own - very fun. We kayaked all over Lake Pauline and Lake Rescue & got to see interesting wildlife...the resident beaver & ducks, bald eagles, herons, salamanders. Fishing off the dock was great as well. The big kitchen table is perfect for family game nights & there are a lot of games & puzzles stocked for use. We enjoyed the local attractions - Jackson Gore, Buttermilk Falls, Sugar Shack (such a cute gift shop & yummy treats) - and went horseback riding at Mountain View Ranch in Danby (about 30 mins away). Very nice family owns the ranch & we had great time.

We cooked a lot of meals in the kitchen and put the grill to use, too - very well appointed - and lots of little extra touches are included throughout the home & property that you really do not find in vacation rentals often.

One thing I could hardly believe was that it was essentially mosquito-free in mid-July. You could be out any time of day or night and never be bothered. We came prepared with lots of repellants/citronella and never touched them. That was a small blessing in itself.

I would highly recommend a stay here if you just want to get away from it all in the summer/fall, connect with loved ones & have fun. I'm sure its grand in the winter/spring, too, with many ski slopes nearby & a nice fireplace to gather round.

Owner's Response: I'm so glad you loved being at the cottage and had such a wonderful time! You've inspired me to go horseback riding (haven't been in years!) - I'll grab a flier and add it to the Things to Do binder! And I haven't rented a SUP (stand up paddleboard) either. I'll add info for that, as well. Thanks for all the GREAT information. You haven't just helped future guests -- you helped me, too! :) Much appreciated and I look forward to hosting you again!

Beautiful property

  • 5 of 5

Well positioned in a quiet location on the lake. The kitchen has everything you could need and the storage shed has all the lake toys you would need including fishing equipment! The house is clean and well-cared for. Owner is super-responsive and available in case anything else would be needed. Fantastic!

It sounds cliché, but the Ludlow area truly has something for everyone! The winters boast exceptional skiing at Okemo with Killington just 25 minutes away, snowmobiling, skating & snow shoeing. Fall is fabulous for scenic drives as each turn offers a thrilling view of mountains, fields and forests as you follow the winding Black Rock River. In summer you can spend the day antiquing, wandering through farmers' markets, boating, fishing, hiking or trying your skill at the Jackson Gore Adventure Park on the zip line or alpine slides.
