Overview

About the property

Spacious & Well Equiped - 4 BR, 3 Bath - 5 minutes from Okemo

This is the perfect location for a fabulous winter vacation (fall & summer are awesome, too!) Imagine waking up each morning to the quiet beauty of the lake covered with fresh snow. Load your Okemo pass on-line from the house and head right to the slopes, just 5 minutes away! If you love to cook, the kitchen is well appointed so you can whip up something wonderful. Otherwise, eat at one of the fabulous restaurants downtown or just grab a pizza! Play games, watch movies or just chill by the fire (wood provided!)...All the simple pleasures!

My slogan is "keep it simple". When you arrive, beds are made with crisp, clean linens & down comforters and fresh towels are stacked in the bathroom. Just show up! My house fairies will be sure everything is neat and clean when you arrive and after you leave. No fuss. No stress. I want you to relax and enjoy!

This spacious lakefront cottage has everything you need to create wonderful memories that will last a lifetime. With 3 floors of living space, there is plenty of room for everyone to have privacy, but then gather together for meals or to share stories of the day's adventures. And for couples or smaller families who don't need or want the sprawl, everything you need is right on the main living floor, giving it that comfortable, cozy cottage feel.

Fresh bath and bed linens are provided for each guest and beds have new, comfortable mattresses and pillows. The kitchen has a microwave and dishwasher and K-cup coffee maker. There is also a washer and dryer available if you need it.

In the summer, the 1+ acre yard with horseshoe pits, volleyball net, hammock, huge deck & fire pit make entertaining a breeze! Swim, kayak and fish right off the new dock in the deep, clear water.

The large deck has an umbrella table and chairs and a Weber gas grill. Stairs off one side lead to a side yard with a shed that holds the yard and water toys, extra chairs, etc. The large fire pit is also on that side, with views of the lake. Stairs off the other side lead to the larger yard where you'll find another eating table tucked under the pines and lit with tiki torches for evening dinners al fresco. There you will also find the horseshoe pits, hammock and a wide path gently sloping down to the waterfront. There's a brand new dock and two kayaks - one double and one single. Paddles and life preservers are in the shed.

Lake Pauline is peaceful and quiet, but Lake Rescue is directly behind us and allows power boats. The boat ramp is 1/2 mile down the road. The best of both worlds!!

In the winter, ice skate, snowmobile (VAST trails) or snowshoe right from the front door. Okemo is 5 minutes (Jackson Gore is even less!), Killington is 25 minutes and Pico is about 30 minutes away. In the evening, gather for a meal, games or a movie. A large, see through fireplace adds warmth and charm to both living room and kitchen/dining room!

In the fall, grab a blanket and a cup of coffee and head out to the Adirondack chairs to watch the mist rise off the lake and listen to the geese fly overhead.

The main floor has a bedroom with double bed and a bedroom with a twin. The bathroom on this floor is very large and has a bath tub (there are also safety rails in this bathroom by tub and toilet, if you have guests who need some extra support).

Upstairs is the master bedroom suite with king bed and small full bath. A second bedroom has a queen bed and two twins. Both bedrooms have skylights and French balconies.

The lower level suite has an additional living area and full bath. There is a couch, TV and stereo and a second room with a daybed with trundle and large game table. (Note: Since this area does not have proper egress, it cannot be used as a bedroom.)

Buttermilk Falls is a popular swimming and picnic spot throughout the summer and fall. Deep, cool pools are at the base of each of 3 sets of falls, cascading down through the woods. They are only 2 miles away and can be reached by car or bike.

The town of Ludlow has a variety of interesting shops, great restaurants and you can't beat the Jackson Gore Adventure Park when the kids need some excitement. They also hold a free concert every Friday night in the summer that is always fun!

I love my 'cottage' and this area and feel so fortunate to have such a beautiful, spacious spot on the lake. I am happy to share it with others who are looking to refresh, reconnect & renew. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have.

About Bernie Bolton

I reside in CT and have always wanted to live on a lake. Finding this house in Ludlow - an area I love! - was pure fate!

I have done home exchanges in the past and really enjoyed the experience. I love sharing what brings me joy and I trust people to treat it as though it were their own.

I have 2 grown children and Golden Retriever rescue named Gracie. Pets are generally not allowed, but trained, well-behaved pets will be considered since I know they are part of your family, too.

Bernie Bolton purchased this house in 2015

Why Bernie Bolton chose Ludlow

I fell in love with Ludlow 20 years ago and fall in love all over again each time I drive into town. It has everything anyone could want -- interesting shops featuring talented artists; world-class golf; sensational skiing; beautiful lakes, streams and waterfalls; friendly people and breathtaking views all around.

Burlington is a good day trip and Manchester, Woodstock, Rutland, Bennington & Lake George are all within an hour's drive. But honestly? You won't leave Ludlow! :)

What makes this house unique

I've just recently purchased this home and want to create a "cottage" experience. I do not want a home to be featured on 'Cribs' -- I want a home where you walk in and feel at peace. Like perhaps you've stepped back in time a bit to a simpler life at a slower pace.

Yes, there is wifi and cable TV and Bose surround sound & a dishwasher. If you need them. But there are also kayaks and fishing poles and jigsaw puzzles and a squeaky screen door. So I encourage you to unplug and enjoy life's simple pleasures.

Great property

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at this house. The best thing about it is a very spacious deck under the pine trees looking out over the lake. We spent most of our time on the deck, visiting with friends and family. The house was very well stocked and comfortable. The location, on a dirt road and on the lake, is perfect.

Owner's Response: I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay! Yes, the deck is certainly a highlight - day or night! This weekend we sat in the reclining chairs at night and saw 5 shooting stars. Beautiful! I look forward to hosting you again next year!

Well equipped, great location, all needs anticipated.

Very comfortable lake house stocked with all of the basics and more. The view was wonderful. The lake is crystal clear and quiet. Plenty to do nearby, if you get tired of swimming, canoeing, or kayaking. The nearby Sugarhouse has the best maple creamees in VT. Our family really enjoyed this property.

Another beautiful week on Lake Pauline!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at Tapestry Pines and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! The hostess, Bernie, was on top of things and helpful as always. Enough can't be said for the extra provisions and comforts afforded at her lovely house. The location is heavenly and very private, while being conveniently located near to fun attractions and outdoor activities. The Adventure Zone at Okemo Mt/Jackson Gore was a fun day for us this year (less than 10 mins away). We rented a stand up paddle board from the shop here again (about $40 for the day). On a rainy day we ventured to the Ben & Jerry's factory in Waterbury (about an hour & 1/2 away) - delicious! (That is also close to Stowe where you can ride a gondola to top of Mt Mansfield - Vermont's highest peak!) We also boated over to the Sugar Shack again, which is always a fun stop.

Our favorite part is simply enjoying the lake at the house - swimming, fishing, kayaking around the lake, playing at Horseshoe Falls, daily walks on Red Bridge Rd (the dogs' favorite), smores cooked around the fire pit, family meals on the deck, and game nights. We enjoyed Bernie's addition of the red canoe this year and made good use of it, as well as the 2 kayaks and inner-tubes. Also, our kids were delighted by the addition of the volleyball net - we enjoyed fun games of badminton & volleyball this year! Although we bring indoor and outdoor games with us, there are so many fun things on hand and easily accessible, it's really not needed.

We would highly recommend a stay here. It's a beautiful, peaceful, comfortable, great fun and a wonderful place to enjoy quality time with the ones you love - even if you never leave the house!

Owner's Response: It was wonderful having you back again this year! I'm really glad you enjoyed the volley ball net & canoe -- I've enjoyed having them, too! :) Thanks for the tip about the ride up to the top of Mt Mansfield -- I don't have that in my guest book, but will add it now! Enjoy the rest of the summer and I hope to have you as a guest at Tapestry again!

Simply the best

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed at a variety of properties in VT over the years, and none come even close to this home. It is clean and spacious, has lots to do, and Bernie includes many special touches that make the stay all the better. My family has only been there twice, yet they are already beginning to consider it a home away from home. Thank you, Bernie, for being such a great host.

Excellent Lakeside Cottage!

  • 5 of 5

Spent a long weekend at Bernie's lakeside cottage with family and friends at the end of June to start the summer off right. Everybody, including myself had a memorable time. Enjoying the lake for me was the best part. We spent hours swimming in the lake. Bernie does a great job making sure everything you need to enjoy the lake house is in place. Floating tubes, kayaks, a canoe, volley ball net, horseshoe ring toss. You name it. The cottage itself is generously stocked as well and never felt like something was missing which could have taken away from the experience. Kitchen is well stocked. We cooked all our meals at home and everything worked flawlessly. Plenty of beds. Cottage is big enough for 8, but never felt crowded with plenty of space in and around for some privacy as well. My highlight from the weekend would have to be canoeing down the lake to the Green Mountain Sugar House for some maple ice cream. Will definitely return, possibly later this year for some skiing. Highly recommend staying here at least once.

It sounds cliché, but the Ludlow area truly has something for everyone! The winters boast exceptional skiing at Okemo with Killington just 25 minutes away, snowmobiling, skating & snow shoeing. Fall is fabulous for scenic drives as each turn offers a thrilling view of mountains, fields and forests as you follow the winding Black Rock River. In summer you can spend the day antiquing, wandering through farmers' markets, boating, fishing, hiking or trying your skill at the Jackson Gore Adventure Park on the zip line or alpine slides.
