The house is absolutely amazing! It is very big and has extreme character. The owners were extremely helpful and inviting in getting us there safely during a snow storm. We found the pool room the most inviting just for its warm moist air during the dry winter. I would advise getting groceries in town before going to the house as you pass through the town to get there, which is 6 miles away. It is extremely peaceful and remote, which is so attractive. I would recommend this as a great family get away. We had a small reunion with my sister and her children. We had seven kids 14 to 18 and three adults and it was did not feel crowded in the least. Beautiful home.
Our extended family--3 generations and 10 of us--stayed in this unusual, spacious home for 7 days over Thanksgiving Week. Located on a small mountaintop, the 360 degree views from the many windows were spectacular! Barbara and Peter were extremely gracious hosts, preparing well for our arrival with 2 grandchildren by getting new baby furniture and also providing us lots of helpful information, especially about kitchen features and things to do in the local area. Barbara even ordered our fresh turkey for me from the local market well in advance! Since our traditional southern family Thanksgiving involves much cooking and pie baking, we were thrilled to find a huge kitchen with many appliances and lots of work space, making our preparations easier and more fun since we could all work together with plenty of room. The atrium and indoor pool were beautiful, and everyone enjoyed using both the pool and outdoor hot tub, which was delightful when it snowed 2 times while we were there! We especially appreciated Peter's willingness to raise the temperature of the pool slightly so it would be more comfortable for the children. Peter also provided our tech-savvy family members with a tour of the home's extensive and unusual mechanics/engineering, as well as a good intro to the entertainment center. The expansive house layout was great for our group because it allowed each family some privacy and the separation necessary for children to nap and recharge while others pursued noisier activities without disturbing them. Our hosts let us know upon arrival that the house is showing its age to some extent, with a need for upgrades especially in the electrical system. For example, we found that lighting was inadequate in some areas, but after we made some recommendations, we understand Peter has already remedied problem areas since our departure. The house definitely needs good stewardship, and it seems Barbara and Peter want to maintain its beauty and special character, though this is clearly a demanding job. While there, we also did a lot of hiking, walking and biking, and there are good trails and roads readily accessible on or near the property, as well as plenty of picturesque scenery and beautiful small NH towns. We certainly had a wonderful week of family fun!
Peter and Barbara are terrific owners who were willing to work with my schedule and made it a pleasure to stay at their beautiful home.
Would definitely recommend staying here if you are in the area and looking for a place with space. With an indoor pool & hot tub, why wouldn't you!
What a great place to stay! We had a wedding in the area and five couples shared the house and we had a blast. The house is perfectly set up for privacy when you need it and group areas to hang with friends. The pool is an added plus and the grounds are beautiful. We highly recommend this house for friends and family get aways!
This was a lovely place to stay. The owners are very attentive and helpful. The home shows some age, but they have worked hard to update and address any issues. I would consider staying here again if I had a large group and wanted a special place to share with people!
We had a lovely girls' weekend out at Barbara's home. There was plenty of room to sprawl out at the home, though we spent a significant amount of our time there enjoying their fabulous indoor pool (with its own climate control) and outdoor hot tub! You won't see another soul from the property, and the views are incredible. They are such gracious hosts, and really made us feel like we could enjoy ourselves in their wonderful home. A quick drive up from Boston, and though the property is very private, it's conveniently located to the local Market Basket and a number of restaurants. We'd definitely come back!
