Built this property for my kids when they were small, we went swimming fishing snowmobiling four wheeling and a lot of relaxing. hope you can make use of the Sunrise Trail a 80 mile railroad bed for the public to use for Quards or bicycles, hiking or Snowmobiles
I have some of my Great Grandfather tools, sea chest, he was a sea Captain(John Latty) that sailed a four mast schooner all over the world. I remember him when I was very small and have read some story's of his travels.
love watching the sunrise make sure you do at least one and bring your camera.
there is a loon's nest on the shore to the right Ive been watching the mom with the baby for the last month.
Our family of 4 traveled up to Maine to celebrate my son's 9th birthday with a trip to Acadia over Columbus Day Weekend. My in-laws joined us for the adventure, too. We packed our own groceries, so there was no need for us to visit a grocery store. In the event you think you've forgotten something, check the cabinets. There were plenty of condiments to use. The home was cozy, yet spacious enough for us all to enjoy. On our first morning, the kids woke up and ran straight to the dock to watch the sun rise over Flanders Pond. The view was beautiful and serene. We visited Acadia on Saturday since it looked like the only rain-free day of the weekend. It took about 40mins or so, but not a bad drive. We did Cadillac Mountain, ate lunch by the water, and rode our bikes on Aunt Betty's Loop. Because we have 2 youngish kids (9 and 5), this was a mild trail with a few hills. The trail is right off Rt. 3. We ate dinner at Ruth and Wimpy's that night. Be sure to make reservations! We did and our table was waiting for us when we arrived. We ended our first night with a fire in the back. Sunday was overcast, but we took advantage of the 4 kayaks early on. Once it started raining, we headed back inside for hot apple cider and board games and pool.
My in-laws rent out their house during the summer on Cape Cod, and they were quite impressed with the cleanliness of this house, as well as all of the amenities provided. As we were packing up on Monday, the kids kept saying how much they didn't want to leave. This secluded spot provided everything for a great birthday trip for my son. The kids especially liked the swing tucked away by the water, and made us take pictures of them on the swing.
Thank you for allowing us to create some memories in this tranquil spot!
My family and I had a blast at this location and the view was amazing. We truly enjoyed our stay here and highly recommend it to anyone looking to stay in the Bar Harbor area. We had plenty of things to do on the water and enjoyed hanging by fires at night. A couple of times during our week we drove into Bar Harbor to walk around and enjoy the town and have dinner. This is a great place to be away from the hustle and bustle and relax!
stayed with my family (3 kids). House is beautiful and well equipped. Has everything you might need ion the kitchen, bathroom etc. we LOVED the bicycles, kayaks and paddle board. Beautiful view of lake. Tim was extremely helpful and responsive. Cant wait to come back. Only drawbacks: no A/C (though we didn't need it), 1 bathroom, last 1.5 miles on unpaved road
We spent an amazing 10 days at Camp Flanders & would recommend this property to anyone. The house was clean, spacious & had all of the comforts of home. Beds & couches were comfy, kitchen had everything you need to cook great meals & the view of the lake is beautiful. We had fun kayaking, paddleboarding & just spending time sitting on the deck watching the loons & eagles. Our dog also loved the lake & the large yard...it was perfect for him to run around & play ball & swim. We loved hiking around Acadia (both Schoodic Peninsula & Mt. Desert Island/Bar Harbor) & went to both spots several times. The camp is secluded but not far from town/restaurants, etc. so for us, it was everything we were looking for. Tim was great to work with & answered all of our questions before we arrived. Thank you for opening your home & allowing us to experience the beauty of Maine. We are looking forward to coming back up next year!
The pictures do no do this property justice! Tim has kept up this place immaculately! It is in beautiful condition and was a perfect fit for out family. We would love to come back again. Our only complaint was that we wish we had more time there! The house has everything you need, except for maybe water shoes, but we brought our own. Our kids loved using the paddle board and kayak's to head out and around the island on Flander's Pond. We also attached them to one another and to the dock to just relax and float around. The property is just beautiful and the cabin well equipped for comfort and lots to do. It was great to have washer and dryer and the kids loved the game room as well! My husband and I really appreciated all the character and charm of a log cabin, with the history of all of Tim's family adventures. The hike to Acadia is 40-50 minutes, which makes doing Mt. Dessert island with younger children, an all day affair. But we just split our time. One day in Acadia, one at Camp Flanders. If we weren't so far away, we would rent this place every summer for 2 weeks! It was an absolute bullseye for our family! Thanks, Tim!!
The house is very welcoming with its wood interior and antiques. This is also the first house I've rented through VRBO where we DID NOT have to wipe down areas in the house. Everything was exceptionally clean. The only complaint I have is the bugs outside. There were these annoying flies that if you went for a walk on the trail they would constantly buzz around your head. However, if you were down by the lake on the dock the bugs disappeared. You can hear the frogs and the fish jumping out of the pond in the morning. I am proud to say that all four of us caught one fish out of Flanders Pond. Tim was also great. He was quick to respond to my questions and even drove an hour and a half when I text him that we thought we smelled gas. If you're looking for a tranquil and relaxing place to spend quality family time this is the spot. Also, if you're looking for lobster about 20 minutes out you must stop and eat at Ruth & Wimpy's on Route 1. Some of the best lobster I've ever had!
Located on the pristine Flanders pond, the house offers the best of both worlds. If you are inclined to spending a quiet weekend by the lake, you can fish, kayak, do loon and eagle watching, sit by the fire and enjoy the beauty of nature surrounding you.
For those who prefer an active vacation, the area offers endless possibilities. An 85 mile Sunrise trail connected to the house will take you all the way to the Canadian border on your bicycle, ATV or snowmobile. The scenic Schoodic Point national park is right around the corner, and the world famous Acadia National Park is only a short 35 minute car ride away. The park provides opportunities for hiking, cycling, dining, swimming, etc. The town of Bar Harbor alone will keep you busy for an entire day with its multiple shops, bars, restaurants, and activities like whale and puffin watching, sea kayak tours, lobster fishing, etc. Two ferries leaving from South West Harbor and Bass Harbor will take you to Swans and Cranberry Islands, where you can learn about the long living traditions of Maine island life. The famous Maine lobster is served in most restaurants along the coast, along with other kinds of fresh seafood.
In case you bring your passports, Canada is only a couple of hours away. You can visit President Roosevelt's summer home and museum located on the beautiful Campobello Island.
