About this property

King bed. 2 bedroom. Pet-friendly. Fenced back yard. Near Downtown.

SUMMARY: 672 square foot home, 2 bedrooms with a king and two twin beds, fenced in back yard, pet friendly with pet fee, washer/dryer, fully equipped kitchen, all linens provided. The home is in a 1948-1950s blue-collar neighborhood.

This charming 672 square foot remodeled two bedroom home is awesome with mahogany tile floors throughout, except for the white ceramic in the kitchen. It is a Gunnison Home, "prefab-ulous: Gunnison Houses were sturdy, affordable and went up in a wink".

BEDROOM ONE has a king-sized bed, night table with a lamp, nightstand, a luggage rack, dresser, and a closet. Beds have super soft sheets and cotton blankets. "Fluffies" are in the closet if needed.

The SECOND BEDROOM has a trundle bed, which is two twin sized beds with the lower bed stored underneath. The lower bed can be "popped up" to be even/level with the mattress on the bed frame. It also has a small night stand, a luggage rack, a chest of drawers and a closet.

For a short stay, a fifth person could sleep comfortably on the couch by removing the back cushions.

The KITCHEN has granite countertops and stainless steel appliances including a Professional Series stove, microwave/hood combo, dishwasher, and refrigerator. Appliances include coffee pot, blender, toaster with warmer, and a hand mixer. Ready to cook with a collection of pots and pans, bowls, knives, silverware, and service for 8 Corelle dinnerware Set. Four bar stools for kitchen area seating. There are a variety of spices and individual size condiments, salt and pepper, cooking spray, etc. Garbage bags, dishwasher packets, dish detergent, and other cleaning supplies are provided. Remember to bring coffee if you are a coffee drinker!

The LIVING ROOM has an armchair, sofa, rocker glider, ottoman, and two end tables. The flat screen HD television has Roku, "the simplest way to stream to your TV", with hundreds of Roku channels. There is no cable.

The BATHROOM was remodeled except for the refinished original steel bathtub. It has a curved shower rod with a hookless curtain with a snap off liner for ease of washing. Fresh towels, toilet paper, and a few necessities are provided in case you've forgotten them.

This is a pet-friendly home with a fenced in back yard, but we ask that you only bring well-trained, toe nails clipped, indoor pets. A pet fee of $100 per stay is charged. There are plenty of sidewalks to walk your dog around the neighborhood, and Jacobson Park (6.3 Miles) also has a dog park.

MORE ABOUT A GUNNISON HOME...
"Prefab-ulous: Gunnison houses were sturdy, affordable and went up in a wink."

Who put the magic in Gunnison Magichomes? That was Foster Gunnison, the man who wanted to do for the American home what Henry Ford did for the automobile.

And what was the magic?
"If you had your foundation in place, you could start [construction] Tuesday morning and the family could eat dinner on Friday evening in their home," said Randy Shipp, a Lexington, Ky., City Historic Preservation Specialist who's been researching Gunnison Homes for about four years.

In the early 1930s, Mr. Gunnison, a lighting engineer who illuminated the Empire State Building and Rockefeller Center, worked with a group of architects, engineers and plywood experts to develop affordable housing using assembly-line techniques. The one-story houses could be put together on their sites from ready-made components, including walls that already contained steel casement windows and wooden doors.
Gunnison homes were a hit because they were moderately priced, well-built and, thanks to a variety of add-on features, could be custom-made to accommodate families of different sizes and means. In 1961, Mr. Gunnison's New York Times Obituary called his product "the first commercially successful mass-produced home in the United States."

Marketed through franchised dealers across the country, Gunnisons by 1950 came in 11 sizes, from a boxy 24-by-24-foot model with kitchen, living-dining room, two bedrooms, bath and utility room to a spacious four-bedroom, 2 1/2-bath model. All had built-in bedroom closets and linen closets. Traditional styles -- Cape Cod, Colonial and Ranch -- were chosen to boost consumer confidence in the novel prefab building method.
Mr. Gunnison, son of the publisher of the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, established his company in 1935 in New Albany, Ind., a suburb of Louisville, Ky., on the opposite side of the Ohio River.

"New Albany had a good central location, access to a good supply of materials, and the building had been a wood veneer factory," so it already had some of the necessary equipment, Mr. Shipp said.

Perfect location for Lexington activities.
The house was neat and very clean. The owner responded quickly to text messages. I know it's not mentioned in the description, but the outside back patio could be a great place to relax and enjoy the day before or after busy activities. Just a thought!

The perfect home base
I stayed here with my fiancé and friend. This house served as a perfect home base for us while enjoying Lexington for a few days. The neighborhood is peaceful, and the house was very clean and welcoming when we arrived. The beds were super comfortable as well, which can be hard to find when traveling.

Why they chose this property

This Property Was Owned by Another Perry County Couple, and a Realtor Friend Told Us About It. It Had Been Vacant for Awhile Because the Owner Inherited Her Mother's House Upon Her Mother's Death and Moved Back Home. It Was a Mess, and That's Putting It Gently. But We Saw It's Potential and Were Excited About Owning a Home in Lexington, Since We Come to Lex Often and There Are So Many Things to Do, Whether It Be Sports, Historical, Outdoorsy Or Indoor! It Took Us Over a Year to Renovate Through Our Hard Labor and Jimmy's Hard Labor. Jimmy is My Only Niece's Husband. We Are Very Proud of What Our Blood, Sweat and Tears Accomplished. It's Such a Joy to Stay Here Now, Seeing What It Has Become...a Beautiful, Comfortable Home That We Did Ourselves. It Has a New Heat Pump, New Duct Work, New Water Heater...only the Shell Was Left After We Began Renovating! Thank Goodness the Outside Was in Good Shape, Or That Would Have Been a Deal Breaker. Windows Had Been Replaced and the Outside Has Neat, Pale Yellow Vinyl Siding With Burgundy Shutters, Which I Repainted. a New Front Door is All That Was Needed for the Outside.

the Inside Was a Loooooong Process. We Began Ripping Out the Old Carpet in the Spring of 2014. We Tiled Floors, Painted Everything, Ripped Out Damaged Closet Doors, Found the Second Bedroom Door Under the Outside Building, Stripped the Layers of Paint from the Two Bedroom Doors and Repaired the Holes, Took the Bathroom Door and Frame Completely Off--flipped It Around to Open to the Outside for More Space in the Bathroom. You Name It, We Did It. Jimmy Completely Remodeled the Kitchen Using My Plan. He Widened the Hall Entrance and Closed Off the Original Kitchen Entrance. When the Original Gas Furnace Was Removed, It Added Space to Walk Into the New Kitchen Entrance. He Tiled, Grouted, Sheet Rocked the Walls, Painted, Hung the Microwave, Ran the Water Line Through the Cement Floor to the Ice Maker. You Name It, He Did It. and the Result is Superb.

What makes this property unique

This Home Has Been Renovated With Love. It's Located Close to Everything "lexington". My Neighbors Are Cool... One is 88 and is an Original Owner Along With His Wife of 60+ Years. He Lives Two Doors Down and Owns the House Beside Me As Well As the House On His Other Side. Another Neighbor Has Been Here for About 10 Years. Her Dog Salty Likes to Escape When He Can Run Out the Door! the Neighborhood is a Good, Nice Place to Be. While Working On the House and Walking My Own Dogs, I Would Talk With Someone Almost Every Time I Went Out. It Has Sidewalks That You Can Walk/run On, a Park Nearby, and Many, Many Nearby Attractions.
