As the town line runs through our property, the front part where the camp is situated is in Shirley and the back part is in Greenville. The camp sits on 10 private acres with a mix of fields and woods. The property has direct access to the ITS and ATV trail systems. The cozy cabin sleeps 6 people comfortably with a queen size bed in the master and two twin beds in the second bedroom loft. Living room sofa pulls out to another queen size bed to be sure to make your group or family right at home!
We stayed for 4 days in February 2017, cabin was perfect for us.
First of all I have to say, the owner is great to deal with. We had a trip scheduled in February 2016 and the weather didn't work out, it ended up raining the week before. He worked with us to make arrangements to stay this year with no change in cost or extra fees.
It's only about 1/4 mile down the cabin road and you hit a short trail and then are on ITS-85. It snowed a few inches when we were there, driveway was plowed when we got back from sledding. The inside of the cabin is cozy, the propane heat works great, it was 73 every day when we got back in, hot water is perfect, it was nice to get a warm shower after a long day. There was direct Tv, but no internet, another item that would improve it greatly. Cell service was spotty with Verizon, but txt and calls would go thru, a few miles down the road it was full service perfect. There is a nice deck all around the cabin, although we didn't get to use it much. Some of the appliances (fridge and stove) are a bit dated, but worked perfect. The cabin was spotless when we arrived and everything was ready to go. It was one of the first rentals I have been at in a long time that supplied paper towels, toilet tissue, and tissues. There were towels provided that were fresh, all the beds were clean and ready to go. Only thing that I would say needs a bit of improvement is a few more lamps at night. In the dining/living room it seemed to be a bit dark at night to read a book or look at a magazine. Also, the driveway would be a bit challenging with a larger trailer. We had a 12' trailer and it worked well, just had to back down the 100yd drive from the rd. I would say anything more than 25' would be a struggle to get in., especially with a decent snow pack, it was banked up pretty good. I imagine you could park on the side road in front of the cabin if needed.
I would definitely return for another trip and am already thinking about next year.
Except we were really disappointed that the wood stove wasn't able to be used, completely changes that living room's comfort and use.
This cabin was so cozy and comfortable, and perfect for our needs. Everything was provided for, and the wrap-around porch was perfect for grilling out or just sitting in a deck chair and reading a book. The location was ideal for accessing stores and restaurants, as well as getting out to hiking trails. It would have been nice to have a bit more lighting in the living room area and a second nightstand in the master bedroom, but those would be suggestions for making it even better -- the cabin is great just as it is!The only reason we didn't give a 5-star rating was because of the cabin's proximity to the main road. Sitting outside on the porch, the traffic noise was quite noticeable. There's nothing the owners can do about that (and to be fair, we were there during the International Seaplane Fly-In, so there was probably more traffic than usual), and we were aware of it prior to our arrival, so it wasn't an issue. This would be a great cabin for a winter getaway; we'd love to come back to do some skiing or snowshoeing. We would recommend this cabin for anyone looking for a north woods experience, and we thank the owners for sharing it with others!
We came to area for ATVing for the week – this cabin was the PERFECT place to stay! You could tell that the owners took pride of their cabin, and rightfully so! We could ride ATV’s straight from the cabin to the trails and beyond! The cabin was clean, cozy, and comfortable – exceeded our expectations! The cabin had just about everything you could need except an exterior hose-bib, I discussed with owner and he acknowledged he was in process of installing one. The Seafood Chowder at Kelly’s is great option if you get hungry – we made it there 2 times! We tried many other restaurants in Greenville as well – all were great establishments. The owner communicated very well throughout the VRBO process. The only other suggestion would be to add some more lighting (or brighter lighting) in the kitchen area….but still a 5 Star rating from us! If we ever make it back to Greenville, this is where we will stay!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cabin which was a short distance from Greenville and Moosehead Lake. It was clean, comfortable, nicely decorated, and in a secluded yet convenient location. You feel as if you are back in the woods and you are, but the road to Greenville is very close. The kids loved the loft bedroom. There is a large deck with a grill and firepit, and we really appreciated the washing machine and dryer after nearly two weeks of traveling. The hosts also provided a wonderful binder with information and recommendations that we referred to regularly. I also loved the reclining rocking chairs -- literally my favorite way to relax. If I had any suggestion to make it would be for some additional lighting in the kitchen area. It was a bit tough to see, especially in the evening. But that is a small matter. The hosts were communicative and quickly responsive. We would definitely return here.
Great cabin that was easy to find and in a nice section of maine. A little close to the main road, it would have had 5 stars otherwise. Verizon 4G service is available 3.5 miles away and the quaint Indian Hill Trading Post. Would definitely stay there again. The owners communicated well and it's very apparent that they take great pride in their cabin.
The Moosehead Lake region is the prime spot for all types of recreational activities. ATV and Snowmobile directly from the property to ITS trails. Hunt, fish, boat, mountain bike, ski and just a few options. Public boat launch is only 10 minutes away along with all of the local amenities
