About The Owner

We have retired to the mountains of North Carolina and, Trust Us, we only live in beautiful places. We live in this area and think we have found Paradise in our charming town of Murphy. We came to visit and vacation here and just had to stay. Our home is pet friendly for we have two golden retrievers (THE GOLDEN GIRLS) that are the loves of our lifes. I am sure if you travel with your pets, they are also your children. Our 5 grandchildren think this is the best place in the world and we agree. It is so centrally located and after 12 years we are still exploring and finding new adventures. My husband's advocation is photography and he has enjoyed photographing all the wonders of nature in the area. Some of his photos are in the home. He won lst place in the GA Mountain Fair several years ago and won 2nd place last year. The fair is in July and is an adventure not to be missed if you are here. Fun for the entire family in Hiawassee GA.

The Owner purchased this chateau / country house in 2010

Why The Owner chose Murphy

We came to visit here in 1997 and we fell in love. The next visit we found ourselves buying property and building a house here. What we love the most is the ever changing nature around us. We are always mesmerized by the sound of water and when we found this wonderful new home on a rushing creek we decided to buy it to share our piece of paradise in Murphy with others to enjoy. My husband said that the mountains are in my Scottish/Irish DNA and I would have to agree. As the saying goes 'You are nearer to GOD in the mountains than any other place on earth.'

What makes this chateau / country house unique

The small town feeling where everybody waves and the deep history in this area is fascinating. The area where this home is located is where the last battle of the Civil War was fought on May 6th, 1865. This was an Indian Reservation and the Trail of Tears history can be found at our local museum. The folklore is long and interesting. All you have to do is ask and listen. A free performance every Friday night in the open air pavilion at John C Campbell folk school should not be missed. About a mile from the property is a monument to a Forge that was located here in 1839.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Barry, Your lovely follow up note is as nice as your little paradise by the Rushing Creek! We enjoyed a tranquil and significantly cooler month of August at your cabin by the Creek. In fact, we fell in love with the whole area, and bought a small house just east of Murphy! Last night we gave our neighbors the vrbo info so that they can contact you for their own getaway needs. Thanks for everything, Jim and Jeanne

Best cabin

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is well secluded, creek scenery in the back of the house and spacious, mountain-view in front. My family (3 adults and 3 kids) and our dog loved it sooo much. It was very relaxing and we enjoyed every single day of our stay here. Alot of board games to play, we never played board games before as much as we did there. I really recommend it. Thank you Debbie for this well-maintained cabin. My only problem is that the wi-fi is way below slow but other than that, everything is perfect!

Sweet spot.

  • 5 of 5

We loved the house...roomy, open, quiet, felt like home. Little out of the way if you are thinking of seeing anything north of the Nantahala but Murphy was wonderful. Fire Creek Falls Recreation area is a must for a quick dip and playing in the water. Debbie the owner of the house was very accommodating with a last minute change in our plans. Thank you!

Very quiet and relaxing for a nice get away from your everyday life.

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is very nice, safe area, equipped with everything you need. Loved the back porch with swing. Creek was cold & refreshing with a nice area for dipping & panning for gold. It was very quiet with only the sounds of nature and the rushing creek. There was bugs, but thats from being so far out, so we didn't mind. If you long for the cabin life, this would be the perfect spot. We had a very rainy week, but we managed to still enjoy our time playing games and enjoying our family time. My only wish was wanting a hot tub to make it more relaxing. The road coming in is very twisty and seems far out, but its only 8 miles, or 14 if you go the long way. The scenery was so beautiful on our drives in & out, so we fell in love with the cute little town of Murphy NC. I would come back again or send family & friends. The Birch Family

The cabin was a in a beautiful location. It was a perfect size for our group of 7. Clean, quiet and peaceful with the creek right behind it. We will definitely stay there again if we are in the area.

Amazing stay

  • 5 of 5

My family and I just stayed here. The cabin was great! It was super clean and ready for our visit when we arrived. It snowed a little so my kids saw snow flurries for the first time. It was such a special vacation for us. We will remember this place forever and we definitely want to come back.
