Why Janet Trogdon chose Historic Old Town

If you judged Niagara-on-the-lake by its size, you wouldn’t think a community could pack this much fun in a space so small. Old Town is a unique district within the community, an easy walk to all that this town has to offer, boutiques, antiques, dining, wine, groceries, theatre, golf, bike and walking trails, plus more! Butterfly Cottage is a quiet, oasis just 12 minute leisurely walk from heart of it all!!! It just doesn’t get any better. We recently purchased Butterfly Cottage named after the butterfly-friendly gardens because of its unique style of architecture, open, spacious and light rooms and a wonderful location just a block from the lake and oldest golf course in North America.

We want to share the experience of living like a local. All year around, enjoy world class theatre, gourmet dining prepared by renowned chefs, 5 star spas and internationally award winning wineries. This historic, walkable community features diverse architectural styles, interesting historic buildings and markers plus historic Fort Henry, beautiful scenery and homes that have the most spectacular gardens regardless of the season!! Whether blooming in spring or blanketed in snow, the landscape is stunning. Whether you like to hike, bike, sail, kayak, roller blade, cross country ski, or take a leisurely stroll, it is all available at our front door!

Niagara-on-the-Lake is located between two major international airports. There is also a local airport just minutes outside of town. Nearby (but not to close!!) are major highways that make travel easy. We are within a day’s drive of over 100 Million people!! It is perfect for family or friends to travel together and skip the hassle of security at the airports. You can travel in the comfort of your own vehicle! Getting to Niagara-on-the-Lake is easy; leaving is hard!

Guestbook comments from the manager

We loved our stay at your cosy Butterfly Cottage! It was perfect for the 7 of us! We travelled around Ont in celebration of our mom's 80th birthday as she is from Stratford and has fallen in love with Niagara-on-the-Lake!

Our 83 year old dad enjoyed playing the piano!

Family wedding weekend

  • 5 of 5

Butterfly cottage was perfect for our family that was gathering for a wedding in Niagra on the Lake. Our two young granddaughters enjoyed being able to go to the park and swim in Lake Ontario that was just a 5 minute walk away. The walk into town took about 20 minutes. The bedrooms were lovely although shades on the smaller windows in the upstairs bedrooms would have helped with the morning sun. Everything was updated and charming. The wraparound porch and backyard was a nice addition. Janet was very helpful with information on what to do while we were there on our visit.

Butterfly cottage review

  • 4 of 5

Butterfly cottage is a nice and beautiful cottage for a romantic getaway. The cottage is nice and clean, with a private and colourful backyard. Imaging a swing under a big pear tree, swinging in a flower shower. Wifi is a bonus, and within walking distance to the core of "Niagara on the lake". Two minutes walk to the lake, nice neighbourhood. I would definitely recommend butterfly cottage!

Butterfly Cottage exceeded our expectations! Spacious and very comfortable with everything we needed in the house for cooking a great meal as well as close to town for all other amenities. Such a quiet area. We were 3 couples who met from 3 different cities and this really was like a retreat. Beats a hotel any day! Information regarding the area such as wine tours and some vouchers were a great added touch.Hope we can visit some time again!

Great Girls Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Perfect size for 6 girlfriends to share for a long weekend in NOTL. Loved having so much room to eat and play games around the large dining room table. And plenty of beds since we don't like to share if we don't have to. The kitchen was well stocked and we enjoyed walking around the beautiful neighborhood and down to the lake.

The weather was cool, so we stayed inside; but I can see enjoying the porch and backyard in warmer weather. A bit of a hike into town, but do-able.

Highly recommend!

Fantastic Cottage in wonderful Niagara on the Lake

  • 5 of 5

Butterfly Cottage was a fantastic cottage and true home from home in which the whole family could relax. Situated in a quiet, safe residential area just a few minutes walk from the lake and walking distance to the town centre, the cottage is spacious and has everything needed including gas barbecue.

Niagara on the lake is truly gorgeous, with great places to stop for coffee, ice creams and dining. The ghost walk was also a relaxed pace and entertaining.

Car: not necessary

Very walkable community! Lots of trails and paths to follow.

Amazing sunsets at the Ryerson Park, just around the corner. Take a blanket, a foot ball and some books! Kids would love to hear a storey under the golden rays of the setting sun.
