About Don Flake

Our great grandfathers, William Jordan Flake and James Clark Owens, purchased the ranch that became the town of Show Low, Arizona. William J. Flake was the pioneer founder of Snowflake.

We have 12 children and an ever growing number of grand children who love to come to our Bald Eagle Lake Home as often as they can.

We hope you will love this haven of nature as much as we do.

Lovely Location With Beautiful Views

  • 5 of 5

This lovely property on Rainbow Lake provides everything hoped for in a perfect vacation. The rooms are spacious, the bathrooms have great water pressure, the kitchen is very well equipped for even a large family reunion group. It is in a peaceful area, but close enough to the little town for any shopping needs. The owners and property manager are friendly and responsive, if any questions arise. There is a Roku box, but not cable TV. The views from the spacious back patio are wonderful along with the opportunity to watch wildlife such as Blue Heron catching fish and numerous types of ducks and geese. A truly special property.

Ehhh....a Little Awkward and a Lot Weird

  • 2 of 5

Dusty, LOTS of spiders. Living area has couches with backs to each other, so it's hard to see everyone's face, because you aren't allowed to move furniture. One fridge not working, but didn't realize it until next day when food was spoiled and we read the "Info about the house" paper. Sheets and pillows very thin and uncomfortable. Someone from the HOA came by and took pictures of all of our cars, which makes me wonder if this is an approved rental property, but we were outside at the time and they just took pics without talking to us (weird). We already identified all of our cars and people, but it felt like big brother was checking up on us, which isn't a good feeling on vacation.

Then the owner and his wife came by in the middle of the day claiming they wanted to make sure we didn't "have any leaks" after the rain we experienced. Seemed like he wanted to come inside (awkward). But we were busy trying to enjoy his rental. As he was leaving, he asked me to turn off any lights that I wasn't using. (OK DAD). There are twenty different light switches in your house and I hadn't realized I turned the front porch lights on, but WHY are you even here and why are you even saying things like that to me? Isn't electricity included in the rental?

But the kicker was that that we were asked to strip off the sheets, sweep, and dump trash at a location on the outskirts of the HOA - a drive away from the actual property. Cleaning is not usually the responsibility of the renter, so this was a huge irritation on top of the ones we already listed above.

This vacation was a lot of work and a lot of hassle. I don't care that the caretaker called to say how happy he was that we cleaned up so well. It was REALLY weird and awkward in more ways than one.

House needs a good cleaning!

  • 2 of 5

We stayed here over the 4th of July weekend. When we arrived there was a bucket in the living room catching a roof leak that we were not even warned about. The house is a nice size and the lake view is beautiful other than that the kitchen is gross and disorganized, towels and bed linens are in desperate need of updating. There are spider webs in the window so opening them is not an option. On the back patio all of the benches and around the upper eves have thick heavy spider webs. I'm not being picky, I have never seen anything like it! It was difficult to find proper pans and pots in the kitchen to use. The inside of the cabinets are very dirty. The grill was broken when we arrived and the spa is empty.

We rented Don's two kayaks for him for the weekend. They are both two person kayaks. We were only given three paddles that were not broken. The forth was broken in half. One kayak both seat were broken so it was not possible to sit back and paddle. When we called to complain about paying for something we could not use the owner Don stopped by, 2 days into us staying there, to bring us a new paddle. It too was broken so, he said he would be right back. He never returned with a paddle, called or anything.

It's sad this place is so ill cared for. We will not rent it again. We will go back to the same neighborhood, but never to this house again. The neighborhood is gorgeous and our kids had a blast! We did like the gentlemen that was hired to help arrange the keys and answer questions was wonderful.

Great Fun in the Sun and on the Water

  • 4 of 5

We so enjoyed our stay at 2486 Bald Eagle Point on Rainbow Lake. Even with the ten of us, there was so much room everywhere. We especially loved the super large island in the kitchen and the dock which was so convienient for launching our kayaks and paddle boards. Kids and grandkids were constantly on the water or catching loads of fish off the dock. Pinetop/Lakeside had everything we wanted: restaurants, (Grumpy Jakes) food shopping, etc. The area was great for bird watching.....we saw a bald eagle while we were relaxing in our kayaks and we had a nice fire in the pit that was right on the deck. The views are spectacular on the second floor balcony and all the upstairs rooms have access to it. We look forward to staying there again for our Plummer Family Vacation.
