Nelson's Home: near Kalpitiya lagoon

Bedrooms 1
Property type cabin

About the property

Cabin in Kandakuliya, 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, sleeps 2

About This Listing

A great place to wind down to after a long day of kite-surfing on Kalpitiya Lagoon.

The price is for the entire cabin and there are two cabin available.

The Space

Built specifically for guests in a nice, open space below the palm trees, Nelson's consists of two separate cabins, each with a private bathroom and a kitchen. There's place to sit outside to read a book. Ideal for longern stays (which are more economical) Nelson's is also available for short-term stays.

Located at about 150 metres from the beach, 4 kilometres from the lagoon and 7 from the town, you're a hop and a step away from everything you need here.

Interaction with Guests

Nelson, a fisherman, has invested his life savings in this place, in hopes of riding the tourism wave along with the surfers. He's done well, we think. Together with his wife he lives in a separate home nearby. Almost every day he goes fishing. If you ask him, he'll bring you the day's catch, which might include a nice fat lobster if you're lucky.

The Neighborhood

"We're going to Kalpitiya!" Mo shouted through the phone in excitement.

One quick look at the map and it becomes clear why Kalpitiya is such a hot spot. Large, shallow lagoon on the one side, beach and sea on the other, small town and peninsula in the middle. Constantly windy, warm weather, friendly people, affordable and relatively undiscovered still, it quickly becomes clear why Kalpitiya is bound to become one of the world's favourite kite-surf spots. But there's more to Kalpitiya than surfing. Its 14 islands and lagoons form a diverse marine sanctuary with bar reefs, saltpans, mangrove swamps and vast sand dune beaches, making it a nursing grounds for many species of crustaceans and fish. The coastal waters are home to a variety of dolphins, whales, sea turtles, and even the illusive dugong.

All I could do was shout back: "I'm coming too!!"
