About Brenton Surgenor

When I'm not hanging out in Antibes eating gorgeous fresh produce from the market (literally at the bottom of my building) and drinking fabulous local wines, I live and work in Hong Kong. I'm currently a Senior Lecturer in Dance Studies at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. So an artist at heart and appreciative of beautiful - and at times expensive - things.

Brenton Surgenor purchased this apartment in 2015

Why Brenton Surgenor chose Cannes - Grasse - Antibes

I was on holiday in Antibes July 2014 and after a fine lunch with generous amounts of great Provencal rose, I staggered into an estate agents and said "I'd like to buy an apartment". So I did....The estate agent showed me a number of properties that day however I completely fell in love with Chez Les Terrasses. Well more accurately I fell in love with the potential I saw in Chez Les Terrasses. So one year later having survived the French legal systems, French banking system (which are very thorough I have to report), Polish builders (who don't speak English and my French is very very basic) and a great deal of blood, sweat, tears and money!! I'm there, living the dream of owning a property in the south of France. I love it here! I'm a big foodie (and like to think I'm a good cook), love French wine and the beach, so this apartment is perfect for me. I spent a lot of time (and money) making it comfortable for me, so I hope you enjoy it too.

As you can imagine renovating an apartment in a building hundreds of years old had its challenges and limitations, so I wasn't always able to do what I want (moving walls was impossible). Happy to share my tips and experiences with anyone who finds themselves returning from holiday with a tan and real-estate...

What makes this apartment unique

Two major benefits to this apartment are the terrace and the location. The terrace is gorgeous and over looks the old town towards the towers of the Picasso museum and Antibes Cathedral. It is also right on the Provencal Market which means if you like food and/or cooking you will be in heaven. There are great local Boulangeries, cheese shops, butchers and supermarkets nearby so you can either choose to visit one of the many excellent local restaurants right outside the front door or cook up a gourmet feast in the kitchen and dine on the terrace.

The apartment has been completely renovated with new bathroom, kitchen and furnishings. The only thing I didn't change were the floors - they are original! So it is all very new, clean and lovely.

I will add that this apartment is on the 4th floor. Yes 4 flights of stairs so if your traveling with steamer trunks or a small child (and stroller), this is not the apartment for you. However once you are here you have living on one level. Fabulous views, fabulous terrace, fabulous apartment (well I think so anyway).

The apartment is the terrace, one bedroom/living room, one large kitchen/dining room and 2 mezzanines. One has a reading nook with fabulous views over new Antibes and the other has a single bed (pretending to be a daybed) so its perfect if you are traveling with a single friend of family member or just fancy a quiet place to read your book.

Absolutely STUNNING apartment in perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We spent 5 wonderful days in this gorgeous apartment which overlooks the central food market in Antibes. The apartment has everything you could possibly need.... the kitchen is actually better stocked with gadgets and equipment than my own kitchen!

The sunny terrace is the perfect place to soak up some rays and experience the charm of Antibes' old town. In the afternoons we headed upstairs to the sunny nook overlooking the rest of Antibes - it is the perfect place to have a glass of rose & read a book.

Can't say much more... totally gorgeous decor & perfect location in the hear of the old town. We will definitely be coming back here next time we visit the South of France.

Gorgeous apartment in perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful Easter weekend in this gorgeous apartment, right in the middle of the old town. The apartment is beautifully decorated and has all the amenities that you could wish for along with a stunning roof terrace with views to the sea.

As foodies we particularly loved the location - right above the characterful Provencal food market. Perfect just to pop down and pick up some wonderful French delicacies and prepare a relaxing lunch on the terrace. There a loads of great restaurants surrounding the market as well so there is loads to chose from.

We will definitely be rebooking when we're next in Antibes!

Antibes Gem

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the lovely "Chez les Terraces" apartment for five nights in April, 2016. If we had known how charming, comfortable, and well appointed this apartment is we would have changed our plans and stayed for a longer period of time. The apartment is simply perfect. The location is, as advertised, right in the center of Old Antibes, and as everyone has said before, it is right above the wonderful Marche Provencal. The Marche is open daily, except for Monday and offers everything from fruits and vegetables to meat, fish, cheese and just about anything one needs to put together a small or complete meal. An added treat is the "Socca Man" with his wood fired stove, making Socca, a delicious snack of the region.

The apartment has everything needed to make you feel like you are right at home. The kitchen has all the necessary tools, pots and pans, dishes and cutlery for preparing and serving whatever type of meal desired. We ate "in" four out of the five nights. Our favorite meal was steamed mussels, fresh from the fish monger below us.

The living and sleeping areas and the bathroom are exactly as pictured, and the entire apartment is tastefully decorated and appointed. Our favorite space was the spacious balcony which runs the length of the apartment. Stepping out on the balcony, you have directly in front of you two towers, one of the Cathedral and the other of the Picasso Museum. These two structures are stunning, set against the bright blue sky. To your left the view is of the port and behind the port the Alps. This time of the year the Alps were still covered in snow.

We can't say enough good things about this apartment. Well, yes we can. Valerie, the "Key Lady," was wonderful to work with. She made the booking process easy and gave us a thorough introduction to the apartment on arrival. Simply said, she was terrific.

We have rented many properties in France over the years and "Chez les Terraces" is our favorite. We hope to return.

Loved it. Great location. Gorgeous apartment.

  • 5 of 5

Loved this apartment! Fantastic location, literally above the Provencal market, walking distance to gorgeous beaches both public and private (we had a great day at Royal Beach), a two minute walk to a great yoga studio and walking distance to a train that took us to Monaco and the beautiful historic village of Eze. The apartment is spotless and really charming in its decor with loads of natural light - everything feels very new. Was fab to have a large terrace. A fabulous base for a great holiday and an authentic slice of Antibes life!

Gorgeous, stylish, central appartment

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely trip staying at Chez Les Terraces. The appartment is beautifully done out. We particularly loved having breakfast and dinner on the terrace - with a view of the sea in the distance. And we loved buying fresh fruit, olives, cheeses and vegetables from the wonderful Provencal Market which is literally " on the doorstep" of this very sweet appartment. There is a wonderful wine shop a few doors down and the best icecream I have ever eaten a stone's throw away (quite dangerous actually!) Exceptionally clean and beautifully presented - we loved how light the appartment is and how fabulously centrally positioned. We walked all over Antibes, to the beach, the Picasso Museum, the church and sampled quite a few of the lovely restaurants nearby. We had excellent customer service and we will definitley be coming back. We'd definitely recommend this.
