Overall good, however, there was some bad smell when we entered the property and stayed for some time.
I planned a surprise birthday party for my fiancé with all of our close friends and needed a cabin in Utica that fit the number of people and this cabin did not disappoint. I was amazed at how large the cabin was and fit every guest perfectly. The cabin owners are so accommodating and do whatever they can to help make your stay the best possible. The cabin is also a great central location to many different activities around the area (Starved Rock National Park, laser tag and arcade games at Grizzly Jack's Grand Bear Resort, wine tasting, shopping, etc.) The cabin is a perfect fit for any occasion and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing stay in a beautiful environment.
We gathered for a college girls reunion. The condo provided everything we needed, sleep space, linens, kitchen supplies, etc. There were 6 of us. The location is perfect for all the "happenings" in the area. The condo was very clean and when we did have an issue they responded in a timely way and were very apologetic, we indeed will consider it in the future! Thank you!
I was really impressed with the size of this cabin, especially for the cost per night. It was HUGE and very clean and well kept. We could have easily invited more guests but only had a party of 6. There were plenty of dishes, towels, pillows for like 10 people. We really liked the cozy decor too. It made us feel like we were in the Rockies, not just a few hours outside of Chicago. The location is nice as well. We were able to access the water park on Thursday and went to the arcade almost daily. Starved rock is so close you can walk there, but we drove. We went on a few trails and had some food from the outdoor grill which was great. I recommend looking at he Grizzly Jack's Grand Bear Resort website before you get to the cabin cause there are a lot of helpful tips and that's how we found out we could get waterpark passes on Thursdays and Sundays only. We also brought paper plates and napkins like the website recommended, but didn't need to use them cause there was plenty of dishes for us. All in all, I was impressed with this vacation rental and I'm sure we will be coming back, with more people next time.
While the description of this property says "enjoy all of the amenities of Grizzly Jack's," be sure to read the fine print & know what it means! This is not a cabin in Grizzly Jack's rental program. If the hotel is heavily booked (like on most holiday weekends or summer weekends), then they DO NOT sell tickets to the waterpark (ie, the "based on availability" in the fine print).
Also, the upstairs bathtub was incredibly dirty (it looked like it was covered in a combination of hair, dirt and blood - not sure who stayed there before us). Additionally, the Whirlpool tub jets shot out a significant amount of dirt/mold.
When we alerted the owner/manager to both issues (sent a picture of the bathtub), we did not get a response for 20 hours (took 2 attempts). They said that they were too overwhelmed with family issues to deal with the cleanliness and said that their post clearly states that access to Grizzly Jack's is "based on availability." Take a look at the listing & judge for yourself...and know that if the hotel is busy, you aren't getting into the waterpark. All in all, dirty & not as advertised with a poor response from the owner.
We rented Unit 6-2. It was clean, although walking in it smelled like smokers had rented it before. Overall, everything was great.
Our two complaints were:
No trash bags in the kitchen, except the one in the garbage can when we arrived.
The coffee maker took longer than one hour to brew a single pot of coffee. (and no filters other than packets provided.)
We would definitely rent here again. Our large family requires lots of space, and these cabins definitely provide that.
Happy New Year!
