Overview

Photos and Description of this Colonial Beach holiday cottage

A Restored Authentic Fisherman's Cottage With Pleasing Decor And Great Location

From the front porch of the Sunrise Cottage enjoy a 180 degree view of the Potomac River while rocking your cares away! Watch the sun rise between your toes from the larger bedroom's french doors. Sit inside in a sun-filled front room with large windows in gliding chairs or in the afternoon or evening on a comfy sofa and basket chairs in the back family room. With a good-sized kitchen and two bedrooms, this cottage is a perfect place to stay for two couples. You'll love it's cheery beachy decor and some original features (hardwood floor, paneled doors, metal kitchen cabinets).

The Potomac River, which is 4 miles wide at this location, can be viewed inside through large windows or outside from the front porch or from a bench at the river's edge. During your relaxing stay at our cottage, wake up to sunrise over the river and then enjoy your morning coffee on the front porch as you watch osprey and cormorants fish for their breakfast. Then hop on a bike* and take an easy, scenic 3-mile ride along the river and bayside. Or jump in your rented golf cart to tool into town to a quaint shop or family-run restaurant -- no chain stores here! A 10-minute walk or a 2-minute bike ride will bring you into town to the public beach, town fishing pier, visitor's center, marina or museum. Nearby wineries, historic sites and parks provide opportunities for other daytime activities. Nighttime activities range from star-gazing and wine/tapa sampling at The Tide's Market to tiki bar hopping and casino gambling at The Riverboat. (Click "more details" to read further.)

If this cottage appeals to you, you may want to also check out our other river-front cottage which is a few blocks away. It is called The Coral Cottage, property #3782422, and it can accommodate 2 people.

About John Lozinyak

My wife and I have spent the last 3 decades getting to know Colonial Beach and growing to love its slower pace and unique charm. Although we have experience with rentals through our work, The Sunrise Cottage is our second vacation rental home. We have had a great experience for the past year with our first vacation rental -- The Coral Cottage. We've met some really nice people and everyone has been very respectful of our property and appreciative of our efforts!

John Lozinyak purchased this cottage in 2010

Why John Lozinyak chose Chesapeake Bay - Northern Neck

We have worked to restore this cottage, attempting to keep its best features and at the same time opening up its interior by removing some walls and expanding its exterior views and natural light by replacing smaller windows with larger ones.

What makes this cottage unique

We think the cottage is in an ideal location with it's river frontage and quieter setting... yet convenient to the amenities of the town.

VERY CLEAN COTTAGE

  • 5 of 5

The owner of this cottage is great to deal with. He always answered my phone calls or called me right back. The cottage was very clean and was equipped with all the essentials. We were very comfortable. Great location and was convenient to everything. I highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a nice place to stay while in Colonial Beach.

Beauty and comfort mixed into a fine getaway

  • 5 of 5

Relaxation, rejuvenation, and peace......all words that best describe this beautiful little gem. 3 days were certainly not enough time! Thanks John and Susan for your warm hospitality. All the little details were well thought out in the design and decoration of this place. The location is amazing and so close to town. And the view each morning at the Potomac River was dare I say.... almost spiritual. We'll definitely be back!

Great girls weekend

  • 5 of 5

From our hosts, who greeted us with a bottle wine, to the wonderful, beautiful decorated cottage; we could not ask for a better experience. The views and setting were just like the pictures. The internet service was an added plus. There were games for our one bad night of weather, paper plates so we did not have to wash dishes. Great collection of stemware. Everything was clean, very comfortable beds, and was lucky enough to have screens in the windows for that relaxing river breeze. We can not wait to plan a return trip!

Great little getaway in a cozy cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a long weekend and had a wonderfully relaxing time. The cottage is perfectly located near the water but close enough to restaurants and shops. The owners left us 2 bikes to use, which was a really nice touch. We biked to dinner and around town. We loved sitting on the porch and looking out at the water with our breakfast in the morning, or in the evening with a glass of wine. The cottage was nicely appointed with everything we needed, and I loved the cheerful, beachy decor. Very prompt and friendly communication with the owners. We're both birdwatchers and outdoorsy types, so we spent a great day kayaking on Monroe Bay (rented from the Colonial Beach Yacht Center). We saw osprey and herons galore, plus a bald eagle! If you're looking for some unplugged time to relax by the water, this is an excellent choice! I hope we can return.

Clean,quiet and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

We were looking to get away for a few days. Colonial Beach and The Sunrise Cottage were perfect for us. The weather was perfect for sitting on the porch, exploring the town and riding around on the bikes.

I can't say enough about the cute cottage. It had everything we needed for a comfortable vacation. Thank you to John and Susan!

Colonial Beach Cottage

House is well located and convenient to a lot of wonderful places to visit. House is quaint but still needs some attention to be usable by more than 2 guests. Was fine for the two of us.

Colonial Beach

Colonial Beach is a golf-cart community with a retro 1940's/50's feel and beachy look. It appeals to young couples, families, and retired folks who appreciate quaintness and want to avoid the cookie-cutter beach resort scene. It's great for biking and walking within the town, fishing and boating on the river and visiting parks (historic and otherwise) and wineries nearby. Local businesses provide opportunities for shopping (antique/thrift/consignment shops), dining out (restaurants, coffee shop, gourmet markets), and entertainment (tiki bars, gambling casino, special events).
