Overview

About the property

Historic Centro, Colonial House, Garden Courtyard, Views Of La Parroquia!

The location of this house could not be better. Located within the triangle of the Jardin (2 blocks), the Instituto (2 blocks) and the gorgeous Parque Juarez (1 block), it is surrounded by restaurants, gourmet shops, galleries, local tiendas, a grocery store, a 24 hour pharmacy, and arguably the best taco stand in all of San Miguel de Allende. No car is necessary, but if you have one, there is a secure parking lot diagonally across the street. I like to describe the neighborhood as the Greenwich Village of San Miguel!

In addition, I cannot think of a safer location in all of San Miguel. Hotels must agree, as The Rosewood and the Posada de la Aldea are within a block. A heated swimming pool is available at La Aldea for a nominal fee. And, a spa and swimming pool are available at The Rosewood. Hot springs (Las Grutas) are a taxi ride away.

Some of the best restaurants in San Miguel are a block away. Caferama, Hecho en Mexico, the Rosewood Rooftop Tapas Bar, Rosewood 1826, Cafe Monet, Antigua Trattoria, Paprika and Provecho are among them. Walk two or three blocks and you can reach almost every restaurant in San Miguel!

There are 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. There are King beds in both of the large bedrooms. There is an additional bedroom with twin bunk beds, but I'd suggest this room only for children as the closets and drawers are being used. There is wifi and two flat screen televisions with English cable channels and an Amazon Fire. Through Amazon Fire, you can access US Netflix, ShoTime, HBOgo, Hulu and Amazon Prime. There is a bathroom with tub. The house sleeps 6 total.

Gas and electric heaters are available for chilly nights.

The kitchen is full. Consuelo, our housekeeper, comes to the house on Mondays, Wednesday's and Fridays. She is an amazing cook and will prepare breakfast and a hearty, healthy comida. She will wash and iron your clothes. Her hours are flexible and she is happy to adjust them to suit your schedule. Carlos is our house manager and he will let you in and address any problems you might have. He can fix anything! He works regularly at the house on Tuesdays and Fridays. You will be provided with all necessary phone numbers, delivery menus, wifi passwords, etc. contained in guestbook to be found on coffee table in MBR #1.

Please come visit San Miguel, no matter where you choose to stay. I have been coming here my entire life and my enthusiasm for the place has never waned. I would be happy to direct you to any sites, answer any questions or simply suggest restaurants!

About Carol Shelley

My great uncle came to San Miguel in 1969 and my love affair with the place started shortly after. My love of horseback riding, hiking, antiquing all began here. My family owned a house for 35 years just a block from where this house is located. I wouldn't live anywhere else in San Miguel. We have another house South Florida (312196) and an apartment in Nashville (685902) which we rent out to rave reviews. We are VERY guest-oriented and your concerns and any issues which arise during your stay come first with us.

Carol Shelley purchased this house in 2012

Why Carol Shelley chose San Miguel de Allende

The location of this house is unbeatable. You can literally walk to anywhere in town. The Jardin, Parque Juarez, a 24 hour pharmacy, late night tacos, and every restaurant and gallery in town. The house is 400 years old!

What makes this house unique

Open the door and you are greeted by a warm garden and the steeple of La Parroquia. You have arrived in San Miguel!

Always a pleasure to stay here

  • 5 of 5

This is a perfect family house with a gorgeous, large backyard. Very comfortable and Consuelo, the housekeeper, is simply the best cook and kindest person you could meet. The hosts are very responsive and easy to work with.

Fantastic location, great staff

  • 4 of 5

My family of 5 enjoyed staying here for over a month starting mid-January, 2017. The location was so incredibly convenient – everything we could want within just a few minutes walk. Consuelo was very sweet and made us many delicious meals both for breakfast and lunch. Carlos was also very responsive, helping whenever we needing anything, whether it was to replace the water, fix the Internet, or get the hot water working again.

We did have some problems with the Internet during our stay, with it reporting as fast, but then going very slow or shutting off completely. The owners worked with us to upgrade the Internet and the router, fixing the problem, for which we were grateful.

The only other downsides to the house in general include that it's right next to the road and the windows are not sound proof, so it can be quite noisy sometimes, even in the middle of the night. There are a few other things we could be picky about from a design perspective (no closet in one of the bedrooms, only one bathroom, too small indoor dining area for those cold mornings/nights), but overall, it was a great stay.

Lovely stay in a very comfortable home.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed 9 nts. in this lovely home and garden. The location, on a quiet street, is very good and near anything you would need. The housekeeper is a treasure and will cook for you, if you wish. I heartily recommend this property and hope to rent it again.

Location, location, etc!Right at the center of the most interesting part of the city(only flat walking area).Every thing one needs is at hand in walking distance.Consuelo kept everything clean and cooked for us when we wished.I won't go into detail about the city.Travel books do that for you.Rudimentary Spanish is helpful, but one could get by without it.Overall great experience.Rick
