Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed in this house for a couple of nights on a quick getaway from real life. The house is close to everything. I don't think we had to drive more than 10 minutes to get any where that we wanted to go. The house was very clean and had all the comforts of home. I will definitely stay here again the next time we visit St. Louis.

Lovely house, great location. Close to Zoo and many neighborhood restaurants and bars.

  • 5 of 5

The house is lovely and well kept. We had 2 little dogs so the fenced yard was great for them.

We spent a lot of time traveling to friends and family but still got to enjoy walking the neighborhood with the dogs and finding many wonderful local eating/drinking establishments all within walking distance,.

The only comments I have and they are more suggestions would be a storm door on the front so you can see outside and since we were there for almost 3 weeks more dish towels as I don't use dish washers. Overall a wonderfull time and great place to stay.

June 2017 Stay

  • 3 of 5

We chose to stay here for a week in June due to so many things to do with our 16 month old. The location of the home made it easily accessible to so many things to do in St. Louis, such as the Zoo, the Science Center, Grant's Farm, etc.

Pros:

- Cleanliness - the house was very clean and well presented. All the blankets and pillows were also clean and we didn't have an issue sleeping on them.

- Comfort - The beds were comfortable and we slept easily enough in the beds.

- WiFi - the internet connection was an acceptable speed and we were able to use Face Time to call our family easily enough. Watching Netflix and other streaming shows/movies was also fairly easy with the speed of the internet.

Cons:

- Parking - You are unable to park on the street between 4-6 PM, so you have to park in the detached one car garage down the back alley. There is a concrete wall on one side of the alley that makes turning or backing into the garage a large task. Granted, we were able to park, but it took some practice with our SUV.

- Noise - There is a busy street in front of the house that never seems to quiet. You can hear traffic in the bedroom and living room easily at all times of the day. The honking and the sirens at night or during our toddler's nap made it difficult for us all to get a sound sleep and I felt like I was having to continue to rock our toddler back to sleep.

- Security - Additional deadbolts on the front door would have made us feel more secure. We were in an area that we didn't know. Also, the back door handle seemed faulty as it was quite loose - maybe replace that would also make it feel more secure.

- Pests - The lawn needs to be treated for bugs and mosquitoes. We were unable to spend any time outside. As soon as we walked in the grass, we got bit by a number of bugs. And my son was bitten by a spider while sleeping in the bedroom - which we had to take him to urgent care for.

- Basement Stairs - The basement stairs seem unsafe and you have to use extreme caution walking down them, as they are very steep and feel as if they may break when walking up or down them.

- Availability of Cooking Utensils - We had to go buy another skillet, a colander, and some additional baking sheets (we left the skillet and colander for others to use) . We planned to cook most of our meals there so, there could have been a better selection of pots, pans, baking sheets, and large spoons.

Overall, the stay was adequate, but we would not return.

Great, clean house in a convenient location

  • 5 of 5

Lovely little historic home that was no more than 20 minutes away from everything we wantedto do: Arch, zoo, City Museum and Magic House.

House was clean with a nice cool air conditioner. It is on a noisy street so a white noise machine was helpful at night.

There is a garage in the back. By about day 4 we were getting pretty good at backing our minivan into the garage. It definitely took a few tries and someone helping with directions.

The house has everything you need. There is only one couch, so not a lot of seating in the family room and the tub really is slick. We would stay here again!

Owner's Response: Thank you SO much for your feedback Kammi! You gave me two things that i'd like to add to our list. Another comfortable chair in living room and white noise machine in bedroom. Hopefully the TV helped too :)
