After hiking the Smokies for many years I discovered the Bryson City / Deep Creek area in 2012 and fell in love with it so much I decided to relocate here. Found my dream home which included a guest house which I have decided to rent out part time. Absolutely love all the beautiful scenery and outdoor activities.
Michael Davis purchased this barn in 2013
At 3000 feet elevation this place has beautiful views of the mountains and spectacular sunsets. The central location to rafting, boating, hiking and Bryson City couldn't be better.
In less than 20 minutes or less you can get to Nantahala National Forest hiking, Fontana Reservoir boating / fishing, trout fishing in numerous creeks, kayaking / rafting at the Nantahala river, Smoky Mountain National Park hiking / tubing at Deep Creek and lots of fun activities and good food / drinks in Bryson City.
The cabin was nice with all the necessary conveniences. Sitting on the front deck and watching the sun set behind the mountains was inspiring. Michael, the owner, was present enough to be helpful but never intrusive. Having the grill with charcoal, fuel, and lighter supplied was very helpful to us. Watching the humming birds that appear in the mornings to the feeders is another unexpected pleasure. Our experience was great. We highly recommend a stay at this property.
Beautiful views, mountain breeze, cozy retreat. The owner could not have been more friendly and helpful and accommodating.
Michael was an outstanding host to our family! His getaway home was perfect for my family of four, giving way to the immensity of the mountains and forest. The views were breathtaking, we wish we could've stayed longer! Bryson City also had a lot to offer as well. Thanks so much Micheal, we hope to be back again some day!
Michael is the yard stick against which all property owners could be measured. He was kind, caring, and wanted to make sure we were comfortable and had no needs! He and Macy, his sweet dog, came over to greet us and came by again on the evening before our next day departure to say goodbye and ask if we had and suggestions on improvements.
The property itself is built on an historical barn and the story behind it is captivating. Michael is still decorating, adding kitchen items, as well as updating rugs! New carpet, new interior paint, new shower, etc.
"The Shanty" porch looks out over a sloping field with a backdrop of distant mountains. Sunsets are amazing! Perfect place to sit in the swing or at the porch table and enjoy coffee, food, or drinks as you watch the sun set over the mountains.
Will definitely keep "The Shanty" on our list of places to stay when in the area!
It was a nice house in a beautiful location. There were lots of nice touches in the house (complimentary coffee, shampoo, towels). The owner was extremely nice. It is more of a neighborhood setting versus getting away from everyone. They owner's house is very close to this house and there are other houses around are fairly close too. The neighbor even stopped by to say hi (with her dog) and was very nice. It is a more populated area versus getting away from people. We enjoyed our stay and it was great we could bring our dog. Watch out for bees/wasps in the yard. If you are looking for a more social atmosphere, this is great. If you are looking for getting away with isolation, this wouldn't be the ideal setting. Also, the Great Smoky Mountains are not dog friendly in the park systems. You have to find other areas to go hiking with your dog. If you go with your dog Tsali is a great place for hiking and the Ocanaluftee River Trail is great for dogs. Beautiful area and it was nice to be able to go out hiking in the middle of the day in summer!
Place was clean and had everything you would need. Owner was close by was nice and extremely helpful. Would highly recommend. You can sit on the porch and watch the sun set over the mountain!
There is always something to do! Tsali mountain biking; raft and kayak the Nantahala; tube Deep Creek; ride the Smokey Mountain Railroad in Bryson City; hike in the Smokey Mountain National Park; win big at the Casino in Cheroke; water sports on Lake Fontana; antique in Franklin, Bryson City, Dillsboro; Drive the Blue Ridge Parkway and have lunch at the Pisquah Inn; Visit the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Dollywood in TN; bike ride in Cades Cove looking for deer, turkey and bear; fly fish/fish the many streams in the area, especially in the Smokey Mountain National Park; and when you are tired and can go no more, there are all types of restaurants in nearby Bryson City.
