About Susan Ampudia

Born and raised in Mexico City, been living in San Antonio, Texas for 6 years.

Went to summer camp for 5 summers in Hunt when I was younger, and spend many weekends enjoying this unique spot in the Texas Hill Country with my family and friends.

Susan Ampudia purchased this chateau / country house in 1986

Why Susan Ampudia chose Hunt

This has been our family's vacation home since 1986. Since we do not use the house year round, we decided to share this lovely spot by renting it through Home Away.

My parents bought the house in 1986, and remodeled the house in 1996. It is a prime spot on the Guadalupe River.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

It is a beautiful home with very spacious rooms, on an incredible spot on the Guadalupe River. It is a great place for a family getaway.

Kerville, Ingram, and Fredrecksburg, are among the fun towns that are nearby.

The city of San Antonio, Texas is an hour and 15 min. drive from the house.

Great time!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time! The house is so cute with lots of sitting and dining areas. The waterfront is on a nice wide beautiful part of the river. They provided lots of tubes, boats and water toys! There are plenty of beds in each bed room for our kids and their friends. We had a great time cooking out, looking at the stars and playing games at night and floating and playing in the river during the day! We will definitely come back, it was a perfect get away!

Beautiful Memories were made on this trip.

  • 5 of 5

This is a great location! Our kids loved it, we fished, we grilled, we sat at night looked at the stars, we looked toward the simple things- the beautiful sunset, the amazing sunrise. The house was spacious, the home had everything we needed or wanted. My wife and I went with our 3 kids, even my mother and mother in law and everyone loved it. Thank you for such a wonderful experience.

It is a palace by the river

  • 5 of 5

We stayed there for 2 nights during Thanksgiving. The house is huge and well decorated. It also has all kinds of supplies. The scene is so beautiful. There are plenty of water activities you can enjoy. We will definitely come back.

Up-to-date, comfortable, and roomy house on a beautiful stretch of river

  • 5 of 5

A group of friends and I stayed here over Labor Day Weekend and absolutely loved it. There were 8 of us, but we could've comfortably fit even more (as long as people don't mind bunk beds). It was an ideal set-up for our group since we didn't mind sharing rooms and I imagine it would be great for families with a lot of kids. Each of the three bedrooms have a lot of room and their own bathrooms, but this is probably not the best place for more than three adults or couples who want their privacy.

The house itself is cute, spacious, and comfortable, as well as clean and modern, which I really appreciated with a large group. It didn't really have the rustic, old-fashioned feel some Hunt houses have, which depending on your taste might matter or not. That said, it's still decorated like a South Texas country house and has a back porch and screen porch, so it certainly doesn't feel too ultra-modern or out of place.

I've been going to Hunt for over 20 years, since I was a baby, and this is the one of the prettiest stretches of river I've stayed on so far. It's wide and sunny with lots of room for kayaking, paddle boarding, or floating (and everything you need for these activities is provided). The river is just steps from the back porch which is extremely convenient.

There are some neighbors close by, so it's not as secluded as some other Hunt properties, but the whole weekend we were there we only saw the neighbors once when they came to retrieve their very cute dog who had wandered over. We had the river to ourselves the whole time, and there aren't any houses across the river, so our view was unimpeded.

There's WiFi, but no AT&T service and the WiFi is a little spotty. I ended up being off the grid basically the whole weekend but that wasn't a bad thing at all. If you desperately needed to call someone you could always drive to the Hunt Store, which is pretty close.

All in all, this was a fantastic property and I would absolutely recommend it and stay there again.

Cute house that is well stocked with river gear, as well as toilet paper, trash bags etc. Very convenient for Camps and close to Mo Ranch. Nice to have wifi too. Thank you for the stay!

River Perfection!

  • 5 of 5

This is the PERFECT river house on the Guadalupe. The drive and Hunt are gorgeous and less crowded than other popular areas. We spent a bachelorette weekend here with 10 ladies comfortably. It has everything you need and more. The river access point is ideal while the water has just the right amount of current to float but not too far. They provided kayaks, paddle boards, floats, chairs, beach towels, grill, plenty of kitchen equipment, wifi, 2 refrigerators, a very nice TV - I just cannot say enough good things about Gringa Gulch! We all loved it and can't wait to plan our next trip here!!!! Thank you so much Susan!
