Jeff and Adrianne Gardner (Owners). Jeff grew up in Northern Vermont and has many ties to the Champlain Islands and the State. Adrianne grew up on the Southern California coast and fell in love with North Hero and Vermont on her first visit.
Jeff Gardner (Owner) purchased this house in 1992
Sitting on the shores of Lake Champlain, White Gables is a unique property because of its location, size, and proximity to the lake. The owners have used this property as a family vacation home since it was purchased.
The house is large enough to reasonably accommodate a group, but intimate enough to be comfortable for a few guests. There are fabulous hundreds-of-years old maple trees on the property, one with a swing that overlooks the lake. The breath-taking views include Lake Champlain, Butler Island, Mount Mansfield, and Saint Albans. There is a wonderful English garden in the front of the house.
We rented the house for our Mother's 75th birthday celebration. The house was great for our large group, everyone was comfortable and had sufficient space for the long weekend. The house has amazing views of Lake Champlain and even though it was located close to a main road you could not hear any traffic. Jeff was easy to deal with and quick to respond when questions arose.
We would definitely rent this house again in the future!
My family cannot speak highly enough of this property or the owners.
First, all my interactions with the owners were first class, as they were very responsive to every single need (of which we had only one) and question (of which we had several to start). They were proactive in contacting us and responded very quickly when we reached out to them.
Second, the location is outstanding. The lake is directly across a minor local road, meaning it takes less than 1 minute to get from the property into Lake Champlain. It is close to the local general store and is just a gorgeous spot with lovely sunrises each day.
Finally, the home itself was fantastic. We walked in and started enjoying immediately. They provided everything from paper goods to a well equipped kitchen. The rooms were wonderful and large enough for our family plus others (if we had wanted to invite others). There was plenty of room for our small child to run around and enjoy games inside. I am not sure what else I can say other than the separation of the bedrooms allowed everyone to have space if/when they needed/wanted it. The house was in excellent condition and exceedingly comfortable.
The islands offer some cute options for entertainment, but we mostly went there for quiet family time. You can certainly get to Burlington easily as well as Montreal, should you want to head north.
We have already discussed the possibility of renting this property again in the future.
White Gables was the ideal location for our writing group gathering of 8 women from around the U.S. and Canada. We each had our own bedroom and there were ample bathrooms. The updated kitchen was easy to work in. The grounds are lovely and we were steps from Lake Champlain. The road is quiet and we were able to bicycle to the state park a few miles away. There was room for all of us to work independently and also to gather together. We look forward to going to White Gables again.
We are a family of 6 siblings that get together every year on Lake Champlain. Five of us rented this place for a week. We are all seniors so most of our children were not around most of the time but a few came and went and they were easily accommodated. This house was VERY comfortable with ample space for us, with 7 bedrooms, 4 full baths and one half bath. The kitchen was wonderful with every appliance, utensil, container available. There was a nice large dock in the water and the side street we were on was great for bike riding, walking, etc. I would say the only drawbacks were no screened in porch and the fact that the lake was "across the street" instead of in the yard but we quickly adapted to this. There was a lovely area to sit in at a picnic table and Adirondack chairs and plenty of lovely huge trees to give shade. All in all we were very happy and plan to rent it again next year, we hope!
We stayed at this beautiful lakefront home in North Hero for 4 nights during our cross-country getaway, and I must say, everything was PERFECT! The home was clean, cozy and comfy! Upon arrival, we saw a binder full of detailed information regarding the property (free wi-fi!), the surrounding locations, available excursions and more. The owners really provide you with everything you need for your stay, including pots/pans, towels, bedding, cable, etc. And they are extremely accommodating. We arrived late in the night and it was super cold outside... Knowing our time of arrival, they had arranged for the heater to be turned on for us in advance. This is just an example of how thoughtful and accommodating they are. We could not have asked for a better home to have stayed at during our getaway. Thank you!
My family and I (14 total) had a fabulous vacation at White Gables. With amazing views of Lake Champlain, a dock, big yard and garden, plus the natural beauty of Vermont we didn't lack for activities or the ability to relax in an inspiring atmosphere with a good book. With Montreal only 1.5 hours away and Burlington 30 minutes, we also had great access to even more fun activities. Jeff, the owner, was very responsive and helpful in all the steps (reserving/confirming/actual stay) of our vacation.
Small note: the attic space is even bigger than pictured - has (at the time of our stay) 2 beds and 3 futons, big TV, and 1/2 bath, making it perfect for the kids. Kitchen was also very well supplied with dishes, cook/bake ware, appliances, etc. allowing us to easily cook meals for the entire family.
