The Cabins of Kelly Mountain is a great space to kick back and unwind. Our cabin sits on the edge of Monongahela National Forest in the Allegheny Mountains. The cabin features 1 bedroom with king size bed, and 1 bathroom and a sauna. You enter from the large deck into the great room with a gas log fireplace and small kitchenette. Our WV cabin rental is a great space to enjoy the mountains while being close to town. We are only 30 min. from Canaan Valley, WV where you can spend a fabulous day skiing, 5 minutes from downtown Elkins, 5 min from the local swimming hole and surrounded constantly by the beauty of West Virginia mountains.

Significantly NOT as described/implied; disappointed.
We chose this place because my wife and I wanted a quiet, romantic few days together in a cabin where we could sit out on the deck, drink our coffee, talk, and enjoy each other, and nature in this beautiful season of the year. We arrived to find the entry way muddy, mud on the floors inside and the bed appeared to have been "ruffled. We had driven 11 1/2 hours to get here... for the "beautiful vistas" shown on the sight, which WE fully expected would be out off of our front deck... only to find those "vistas" 250 yards away, up the hill, and off the (inaccessible) balconies of the "Forks Inn and Restaurant. And that "quiet enjoyment of nature" that we came for; was completely drowned out by the Jake Braking big rigs coming down the hill (30 yards) behind the cabin; and the freeway 100 yards off the front deck.
The description said that the cabin was for two. But there was no place in the living area for two people to sit together. There was only ONE recliner (which would not stay in the reclined position). So, either my wife or myself had to sit in a straight backed dining chair if we wanted to watch a DVD on the flat panel TV. DVD, I say, (and only one DVD player, in the living room; none for the TV in the bedroom), because that was your ONLY choice, There wasn't even a set of rabbit ears to get local over the air TV (cable outlet in the walls, but no cables connected to the TV sets.) As for the kitchen area: The refrigerator freezer box was completely frosted over (had to chisel out enough space to get a bag of ice into it). And one of the large stove top burners was collapsed down into the range. We didn't use it for fear of an electrical short. And, in the bathroom; the sink drain needed adjusting and the exhaust vent did not work.
Really; we feel that if there had been FULL disclosure on the website of ONLY what is in the FIRST paragraph above... we would have looked elsewhere. We have never had any issues such as these (booking online) previous to this experience; but, one thing is CERTAIN, we have gotten an education on this one. When I informed the "property manager" of the issues with the property; her response (two days later) was "we are addressing the issues" but, in essence "that we should have rented a more expensive cabin".
One cannot help but wonder if there are not standards that website owners like Home Away have regarding the accuracy, and COMPLETENESS of what is presented on their site?
My advice... LOOK ELSEWHERE.
I’m so sorry to hear about an un-enjoyable experience at our cabins, we do strive for each guest to enjoy their time at our cabins and love their experience in West Virginia.
The restaurant did have a problem with a pipe that was fixed immediately. The restaurant is 100 ft from the cabins, we encourages guest to use the designated spots in front of the cabins, allowing the restaurant to operate without any problems or interference.
The morning sunshine that streams through the french glass doors, that line the front of the cabins, is wonderful way to start your day. We do not advertise that there is a view right in front of the cabins. We have numerous trees surrounding the cabins, which help block the road that leads into Elkins, well over 250 ft from the cabins. Another reason we provide Smart TV with Netflix package and DVD player for the bedroom T.V. As advertised we do not have cable due to the many problems the trees cause. Plus, its wild and wonderful West Virginia where hiking, swimming, skiing and visiting all the great small quaint towns take up the majority of the time.
We do have an open line of communication during the whole process of booking and staying. Within the confirmation multiple numbers are listed with which to contact us with any problems. Please reach out as soon as you have a problem. Unaware of stove problem and it has already been replaced.
Cabin #1 is designed more for long-term rentals as stated in the headline description, and the pictures show the 2 rocking chairs. We have recently updated with an additional recliner which is great for a long winter night by the fireplace.
We do hope that guest will question us to which cabin they fill is a better fit for their stay. Not all cabins are designed for the romantic getaway or have the same amenities. We love being able to accommodate all guest and the different types of travelers in West Virginia.
We were unaware the big rigs were a problem in Cabin #1, the other cabins are tucked into the mountain further and when we are visiting never hear them or seem to notice. There is a road up the mountain behind us about 100 yards but is closer to Cabin #1 then the other cabins.
There is little a property manager is able to fix when unaware of a problem. Please always remember to communicate when having any sort of problem.
Very relaxing and beautiful scenery.
Owners were very nice, and the property was very well kept.
