Centrally located yet old, dirty and rundown

  • 1 of 5

The house is is a great location for all the outdoor activities that we came to enjoy. The description says totally remodeled and that is untrue. Old and dirty carpeting, bathroom is old and not even close to remodeled, and the hot water went out while we were here. The kitchen looks like some of it was new. Fully remodeled home, no way! That is one reason we chose this property. If I could have seen before renting, I would not have chosen it. House needs a deep cleaning and new carpet...for starters.

2BR Glen Jean Home

Vacation home has all you need to relax and get some sleep between adventurous days in the New River Gorge National River region. Plenty of space to spread out, comfortable furniture and adequate kitchen. Only major complaint was that the toilet was leaking on the bathroom floor. Local POC was notified, but did not come to fix. Luckily there were plenty of towels to soak up the leakage. Other minor complaints were some areas were a bit dusty or dirty, and the ROKU Internet TV setup was disappointing. All in all a nice place to stay with a great location.

Left after 1 night

The place is absolutely disgusting. We showed up after 5 hours on the road to find the place lived in. It had not been cleaned and it appeared that the 'local contact' may actually be living there. The bathroom is beyond gross and the kitchen wasn't stocked with any useful items. There were literally 3 forks. The beds were slept in and the shower was full of about 10 dirty towels. The smell was awful.

Within a few minutes of us being there, the 'local contact' showed up and begin explaining that someone else is in charge of the calendar and he thought we were coming the next day. He even told us that he doesn't get paid much to do this and that he was stuck doing. He said he would clean the place so we were forced to go sight seeing while we wait. We had a car load of groceries and we were all very hungry - by this time it was 6:30pm. We had to wait for the only linens they had to be cleaned and the towels he took to his house which we found out was just next door.

I wanted to leave right away but my husband was tired from the long drive and we were all hungry. Eating there was terrifying as the place is run down and not suitable for a rental unit. There is a for sale sign on the front of the yard and it seemed to me that the place was just abandoned by the owner who moved out of state.

The 'fully remodeled' comment in the description is a facad. The bathroom stunk of urine, the toilet leaked and the shower was not good. It was stained and damp. A campground bathroom is more appealing than this shack. The porch that is 'brand new' is laughable. There are stains on it and the lighting didn't work outside so sitting out there was not an option. We complained to the local contact and he said he would look at it after work the next day which would be around 5:45pm today.

I woke up after only a few scary hours of sleep and went to turn the coffee machine on - just to find that it had leaked water all over the counter and the floor. I slept with my daughter since I was worried for our safety. After discovering the water issues in the kitchen, we packed up and left - no where to go but staying there was not going to happen. We had three nights booked there and paid WAY too much. I plan to call and complain to the Evolve Vacation Rental company but I'm pretty sure I'm not getting my money back. This place should be listed truthfully and only cost around $50 a night - maybe a group of dirty men would stay there, but this place is not suitable for a family.
