Experience Life at The Commonwealth by Stay AlfredOriginally constructed in 1902 as the Commonwealth Title & Trust Building, now on the national registry of historic buildings, this newly renovated treasure puts you in the middle of Philadelphia’s most desirable neighborhoods. Journey back in time as you enter The Commonwealth’s lobby with vintage Art Deco wall sconces, mailboxes, and chandelier. You may be tempted to linger downstairs admiring the architecture while sipping complimentary coffee, but an even more inviting apartment awaits you upstairs.
Large windows in every room and sleek European design elements define this home. Bathed in natural light, the open concept living room and kitchen are warm and inviting. There is more than enough room for your entire party to spread out and relax in front of the TV when you need a break from the city. Take advantage of the full kitchen to prepare meals and save money.
With two spacious bedrooms and a pull-out sofa, this condo accommodates up to 5 people. The master bedroom features a plush king bed, large closet, and adjoining bathroom. In this private oasis you’ll probably forget you aren’t at home. The second bedroom, on the opposite side of the apartment, has a heavenly queen bed and spacious closet. Privacy is never an issue in this condo.
Hardwood floors throughout are just the tip of the iceberg as far as upscale elements. Both bathrooms have been outfitted with premium Grohe fixtures. The kitchen boasts custom-crafted European cabinetry, granite countertops, and stainless steel GE appliances. And let’s not forget the in-home Bosch washer and dryer.
While it might be hard to convince yourself to leave this amazing apartment, you can take solace in the fact that you don’t have to be gone long as it is close to everything! Located in the 'Midtown Village' section of Philadelphia’s City Center, the trendiest restaurants, shops, and attractions are at your doorstep. The famous Reading Terminal Market is blocks away, offering the finest locally grown produce and fresh meats, seafood and poultry; if you don’t have time to cook, grab a sandwich from DiNic’s or Salumeria.
Less than a mile away from The Commonwealth are a plethora of historical sites such as the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and the Betsy Ross House. But history isn’t the only thing this location has to offer. Philadelphia’s art and cultural epicenter—the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and Philadelphia Museum of Art—is within two miles of your home base. Don’t forget to pose for a picture on the museum’s famous Rocky Steps. To really treat yourself after a long day of sight-seeing, head down the block to try one of Capital Grille’s famous dry-aged steaks. Then stop for a nightcap of house-aged spirits at Bank & Bourbon on your way home.

Enjoyed our stay in heart of philly. Walking distance to reading market, south philly, Chinatown and great shopping
2-bedroom apartment was outstanding! 2nd bedroom awkward getting into bed as the walls nook in right at the corner of the bed, but fine for kids. Washer/dryer, 2 full baths, fantastic kitchen. But, note that this is a corporate apartment and does not have many of the things in the kitchen that some apartments might have in terms of fixings. That is, no spices, etc... But, plenty of dishes, pots/pans, silverware, dishwasher, coffee pot, etc.. Also, FANTASTIC free pod-style coffee/tea/hot chocolate station downstairs. Lovely continental breakfast available Friday morning, not sure if that was standard. Plenty of pillows, beds OK comfortwise. Spacious livingroom has pull-out couch. I think there were 3 TVs with cable. Great WIFI was included, as was parking in our stay, a couple of blocks away. Tons of great restaurants and cute stores on cross streets nearby. A brief walk to Independence Hall area. Parks nearby. Reception is staffed at all times, and everyone was very nice and extremely helpful. Tip: old-style video gaming free in office on second floor. Gym looked nice, did not see business center but they have one and I would bet it is excellent. A really wonderful stay, especially for a family!
Excellent stay! The apartment is fantastically outfitted with nice hotel amenities and is in a great location. Very accessible to the SEPTA station and within walking distance to many great restaurants, shops and sights. The one downfall is the street noise. It wasn't an issue for us but it's quite evident the apartment isn't well soundproofed. If you're a light sleeper, easily bothered by noise then I suggest looking elsewhere. But the pro's certainly outweighed the sound issue for us!
A business colleague and I stayed there instead of the Lowes for our conference. The rooms were great. It was easy to get in and out. I could see staying in this place with a family to see the local sites. Enjoy!
We stayed here for five days for conference at the Philadelphia Convention Center and could not be happier with the experience. It's a nice modern apartment with some decent views. The location is right near everything going on downtown. It's an easy walk to city hall/rittenhouse or independence hall/liberty bell/old town. It's all right there. It almost feels like a hotel stay with Stay Alfred providing small soap/shampoo bottles and whatnot. Bonus: there is a Target across the street to buy whatever else you need. One thing to note is that they say to hit a "Stay Alfred" call button when you arrive but there isn't one. You will need to have the concierge let you in (basically by waiving them down) and then explain to them that your keys are upstairs. You will also be required to tell every different concierge after that which apartment you are staying in since they haven't seen you yet. Overall would defintely stay there again for any Philly trip.
ON the positive side, the location was great and the apartment spacious. On the negative side, wse did not have a shower handle until our second day in one of the bathrooms so had to share the working shower in the other bathroom. The TV in the living room was set on Kid Zone. Finally received instructions on how to change it after second day. However, the biggest problem was the AC. Starting the morning of our third day the temperature in the apartment ranged from 84 to 91!!! When I called to report the problem that morning, I got a voice mail. Later that day I received an email that someone would come to fix it between 9 and 9:30pm. In the meantime we had to turn off the AC because hot air was blowing out of the vents. After returning from dinner out, we saw no evidence that a repair person came and the AC was still turned off. We did not have AC ALL NIGHT!!! I called again the next morning before checking out to let them know that the AC did not work and they insisted that they sent someone out. I hope the next person doesn't have the same experience we had!!!
