About the property

Bach or holiday home, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bathrooms, (Sleeps 8)

This house is the host to its very own little blue penguins who live right underneath the kitchen floor.

It is only metres away from the beach and you can lay it bed at night and listen to the tide sweep in and out.

Make your morning coffee and walk 20 steps to the beach whilst the kids play with the sand and stones before breakfast.

5 mins drive or a 15 minute walk will take you to The charming creek walkway. Within 40 mins of the prestine bush walk you will find a swingbridge that looks over to the most amazing waterfall.

Take the kids to the local dairy to get an ice-cream and a $1 mixture then walk across the road to the Ngakwau river where you can have a go at whitebaiting (in the season Sept/Oct) or just fish for herrings off the bridge.

If your peckish grab a quick pint and some fish in chips from the local pub/café and head back to the river. 7 mins south head into Granity for your coffee fix at the local café, then take a look at the talent at the local arts and crafts gallery, then check for any bargains and meet the local ladies across the road at the Granity Op shop. Check out the local museum and admire some of the old historical buildings such as The Lyric Theatre which still runs theatre plays. Take a drive 8 kms up the Millerton Hill and explore Millertons tracks. Walk up the steps to the old bathhouse and get a sense of the old miners who used to trample this walk everyday rain, fog , snow or sunshine. Book the family in Outwest tours and take a tour of the largest open cast mine in the country. Tours are very informative, lots of fun and very cheap! Heading south you can explore the Denniston Hill (if you have read the Denniston Rose then this will give you an appreciate of the tough conditions of mining and pioneering of the past). Its a great place to take Moutain Bikes with panoramic views. If its raining (as it does on the coast) there is always the indoor pools and sports centre including squash courts. How bout hunting and fishing!

No Dogs due to endangered penguins andamp; wekas in area

Fanatastic location for a restful weekend away. Bach was just what we expected. Cosy, clean and comfortable. Will definitely be back in future! Tommy Knockers cafe just down the road at Granity was a great find too. Lovely staff and great food.

The bach was as expected, basic but had everything we needed.

  • 4 of 5

The bach was as expected, basic but had everything we needed. Watching the crashing waves from the kitchen window is what really makes this place special. We heard one or two penguins one night, amazing to hear them. The charming creek walkway near the bach was well worth a visit.

Bach was as expected, Westcoast kiwiana.

  • 3 of 5

Bach was as expected, Westcoast kiwiana...which is why we booked it and overall happy with the configuration but was disappointed to see that there was no washing machine. We had packed light excepting to do washing but not hand-washing. Needs to be noted that this isn't available. Found it a bit pongy too (mainly in kitchen - due to penguins). Comfortable enough
