About this property

Quiet Bayside Waterfront, Private Beach, Walk to Town, Sunsets & Natural Beauty!

Beautiful 4 bedroom renovated Cape Cod, and separate modern 1 bedroom studio apartment (5th Bedroom at additional cost, unless booked before 3-19-24. Please contact owner) with its own private sandy beach and stunning panoramic bay views. Spacious living quarters, wraparound screen porch and 2000 sq ft deck complete this one of a kind property. This is one of coastal Delaware’s best kept secrets. Simply unparalleled natural surroundings directly on the migration path of birds, and our docile local dinosaurs, the horseshoe crab. Enjoy family fun in Rehoboth or bar-hop around Dewey with a short walk home. We're the last street on the right in Dewey, tucked away just far enough to escape the noise.

Our house is within earshot of the oceanside surf, along with lapping waves and whispering grass from the bay breeze. Being bay-front, you'll get a cool, occasionally brisk winds, and incredible summer storms that light up the sky.

There's no other beach vacation home available quite like Bayberry. The attention to detail and years of tireless reworking are felt in the homes subtle style and comfort.

Two double french doors when fully opened, connect the porch to dining, kitchen and living rooms. The constantly updated kitchen is spacious and equipped with new appliances and cookware for meal prep, along with a beautiful collection of large serving dishes and cocktail glasses to match your mood.

The house has been tastefully retrofitted for wheelchair accessibility, including a 1st floor ADA compliant bathroom. Ramps allow access to house, deck, porch and driveway. You'll notice the separate lower sinks and countertops that kids can easily access.

Through the kitchen, bar area, drink fridge, powder room & laundry, connects to an entirely different apartment which sits on it's own footprint behind the house. This wide open modern studio has two decks, a small kitchen, spacious bathroom and laundry room.

The main house has 3 second floor bedrooms, with two full bathrooms. The first floor has a bedroom and full bath, which is also handicap accessible.

Our little beach stretches out to the south, and there's plenty of adventure and discovery for the little ones right outside. Summer storms often bring incredible cloud formations, lightning and rainbows, sometimes with incredible force.

This is the final year of the house as it stands, original, charming, loved and painstakingly maintained. Rising sea levels have reached the point where a high tide during a full moon can flood the driveway, and late fall storms are more common and costly than ever. A last chance to stay in one of the most incredible places in the Mid-Atlantic, in a house that tells a story to an ever changing backdrop of jaw-dropping beauty.

Some highlights include:

-100' of sandy beach to yourself, and ideal for windsurfing, kite boarding, paddle boarding, kayaking, catamaran and small boat sailing.

Amazing Host
The Bayberry house is an amazing property. The grounds are exquisite and the bay view from the expansive deck couldn't be better. The kitchen is unusually well stocked, there are beach toys for the kids and kayaks for the adults. As other reviewers have said, this is the perfect family house. We were there with our children and grandchildren. We encountered an issue during our stay and our hosts went way beyond our expectations in helping us resolve it. What more could you ask for??

Beach retreat
As our family has grown up, this is a place they love coming back to. It's a beautiful place, both the house and the location, and feels like home. The views and breeze on the back deck and screen porch in the evening are amazing!

Best Beach House
This house is the perfect house if you have young kids and don't want to constantly carry things to the beach. It is also a work of art inside and out. The plants, the flowers, the grass....everything has been done to perfection. I cannot say enough good things.

About the host

My family is from Wilmington, Delaware, and I live in Philadelphia. I grew from a kid running barefoot, to a big kid sailing giant kites right off our own beach. I've explored every little bit of this area in every season, and it never fails to show you something new. The weather, wildlife, beauty and strength of nature is what I've fallen in love with, and hope you get a chance to experience it for yourself.

The house layout is perfect to rest and socialize at your own pace, spend time with loved ones, or run off into the wild. Properties like this are either too expensive to buy, or simply never sold. Come enjoy one of the best kept secrets at the beach, it's really that cool.

Why they chose this property

The family bought this property in 1987 as a summer getaway, with a passion for wind sports. It's one of the only places that you can launch sailboats, windsurfers, kitesurfing kites while the kids play on the beach.

What makes this property unique

There is no other place like it. One of the last remaining cottage houses, renovated without compromise, through the lens of two contemporary artists. It reflects the journey of one family who's tale is told in the many unique artworks, retrofitted carpentry, and eye for detail. The property reflects a vision that balances comfort, style and nature. Decompression is inevitable, and that itinerary you perfected will be the first to go.
