About Donovan Goebert

The Log House is a family treasure dedicated to 5 stepbrothers, Christopher, Scolaighe, Donovan, Daniel, and Dominic by their parents Chris and Maria to experience for their lifetimes.

Lots were purchased in 2005 on the Lake side (opposite the golf course side) of the Resort and the original Log House was completed in 2007. It hosted hundreds of guests for vacations, reunions, retreats, holiday gatherings, anniversaries, a 100th birthday, two marriage proposals and many other beautiful moments for the following 5 years.

In 2012, it was converted into a full-time residence to escape the rat race of northern VA and provide a smaller and more personal school experience in the Shenandoah Valley for the boys, especially the youngest who continues to make autism feel like a special bonus more than a disability. Another wing was added to include a large master suite, an office, a 3 car garage, and a professional grade gym. A new sun room and breakfast room were added to the original Log House, as well as a sitting room "bridge" to connect the new wing. Outside, a detached log workshop was built and the driveway was upgraded to a U-shape and a beautiful stone stairway and wall from the road to the house was constructed.

In the winter of 2012, Scolaighe chose to marry his beautiful wife Masha at The Log House, nearly twice its original size, The winter wedding ceremony took place on the center stairway witnessed by nearly 100 guests from across the country and the world. It was a magical christening of The Log House with the types of moments it was always meant to inspire.

In 2015 when 2 of the youngest brothers finished high school and began college and the Army National Guard, The Log House 2.0 was converted to a vacation rental home for hundreds more guests to enjoy.

Thank you so much to the family, friends, and returning guests who continue to make The Log House a special, unique, and timeless setting for some of life's most memorable moments.

What makes this cabin unique

The Log House is the only genuine log cabin that is available to rent to large families on the resort and is even displayed on the Bryce Resort webpage within the lodging section! It's breathtaking, but comfortable. Spacious enough for large families, but cozy enough for intimate gatherings, including the brothers' annual family reunions since 2007 and the family's first wedding. Many guests have returned year after year for their own family traditions, and we are confident that The Log House 2.0 will be a huge success. We hope to see YOU at The Log House for your next vacation!

We had 6 grandchildren and all our kids in the house and had plenty of room for all.

Great property!

  • 4 of 5

Easily accommodated our large group of 12. Wonderful log "cabin", great views of mountains from several decks, everything works and is well taken care of. We rented over Christmas, and while pricey, it was well worth it. In addition to great gathering places for adults and kids, lots of "nooks and crannies" for reading, doing a puzzle, etc. Simple and short run to Bryce for skiing while still being private. Nicely finished, virtually all pine interior, so very cozy for a large home.

Large, clean property with lots to do!

  • 5 of 5

The log cabin was really beautiful and had tons of space for our group. There was a pool table, hot tub, and multiple decks to keep us entertained. The only thing that was a bit confusing was that the instructions on check out, cleaning, etc. we received via email were different than the instructions in the book printed in the house but the owner was very responsive via email with questions.

Wonderful getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We just spent a week in this beautiful home, 12 Adults & 5 children, a great place for family and friends to gather big enough to enjoy, but you can have a little time and space to yourself. We had our children and grandchildren, the kids loved the basement to hang out together and I loved that the grandkids (ages 10 - 3) could come up to see us and go back and forth. The only suggestion I have for other families staying at the Log Home, is get all your groceries before getting there, we are 3 1/2 hrs away, so we brought a lot, we were just going to pick up milk, bread, lunch meat the cold stuff after we unpacked. Once we got there, no one wanted to run out! It was so nice having 'down time' we were still connected to the outside world, great wifi, but so relaxing. The week went by too fast for doing nothing.... we loved it - just playing games, talking - maked memories, my 3 yr old grandson said he didn't want to leave 'the big house'. We didn't have any problems but did contacted the owner with a question and he is super nice and very quick to respond. We had such good sleep in the master bedroom, asked what type of mattress it was after we left and he texted me back with the information. We will definitely be coming back!

Beautiful home in a lovely mountain setting

  • 5 of 5

Visited the Log House for a long weekend to celebrate a birthday and couldn't have asked for more. The well-appointed kitchen easily accommodated our meals, the large dining and living space was perfect for entertaining a big crowd, and the pool table and hot tub kept us entertained. The linens and towels provided made packing so much easier. I highly recommend this property and hope to come back for a return visit!

The Perfect Setting

  • 5 of 5

Our family was in the Shenandoah for our son's wedding. The house was perfect for our extended family to stay and relax. The views were spectacular and it was convenient to the wedding venue. Would definitely stay here again if the occasion arises.
