About the property

Best Centro Location with 2 King Bedroom Suites, 3 Baths, Sleeps 4-6

This sophisticated, contemporary colonial home, with its high ceilings, original pasta tile floors and antique wooden doors, has been tastefully renovated to provide you with a luxurious, modern vacation home. Perfect for one or two couples and family groups, with two king master suites, each with a private ensuite bathroom.

Located in Santa Ana, Merida's most sought after Centro location, within easy walking distance to all attractions, including Plaza Grande and Plaza Santa Lucia and Paseo Montejo. The perfect location to explore Merida’s fascinating history, sample delicious local cuisine, browse artisan shops and wander street markets. Each evening, join locals for dancing in nearby plazas and the frequent (free) cultural events.

Set on a quiet Centro side street away from any traffic and bus noise and just a short stroll to the gorgeous Paseo de Montejo, Casa de Florencia is the perfect choice for your Yucatan vacation. Our favorite neighborhood restaurants offer delicious cuisine or our private chef can cook for you at home.

With the relaxing vibe of a sophisticated holiday home, Casa de Florencia has been tastefully designed by one of Merida's most sought after young architects for modern casual living with a relaxed, Mediterranean vibe. A special offer for reservations of a month or more: our private Chef Macros will prepare a delicious meal with a fun cooking lesson for 2-4 persons!

Both king suites come with tons of closet space and luxurious bed linens. The media/reading room has a double pullout sofa and can serve as extra bedroom for 2 guests. You’ll love our bright, airy and inviting home with full air-conditioning in every room (and ceiling fans throughout), plus a well-equipped kitchen, comfortable soft furnishings, free unlimited wireless Internet, bluetooth speaker, and Smart Internet TV (with Netflix). Everything you need for those evenings when you may want to just relax and catch a movie on Netflix after a day exploring Centro, visiting restored Haciendas, swimming in ancient cenotes, watching flocks of pink flamingos feed, or exploring World famous Mayan heritage sites.

Whether your vacation plans call for maximum sightseeing or just kicking back with drinks by the pool or on the rooftop terrace, Casa de Florencia is the perfect choice for your Merida Centro vacation. Read our reviews to see what our guests loved about their stay.

While we don't restrict family bookings, as is usual in Merida, the pool area is unfenced and the spiral staircase is next to the pool. Families should consider this when booking.

The Neighborhood

Located in the most desirable Centro neighborhood of Santa Ana. On a quiet side street with no bus noise, in the heart of the Centro Historico, just a short walk to the Paseo de Montejo, Santa Lucia, Santiago and Mejorada. Perfect for visiting historic sites, shopping, restaurants, galleries, etc. Local plazas have live musical entertainment each night of the week. On Sunday mornings, the heart of the city is closed to vehicles - a great time to meet other visitors and locals and to visit the Plaza Grande craft market.

Concierge Services

Available upon request.

Our private Chef Marcos will prepare delicious Mexican regional and Yucatan cuisine for you at home, with a fun cooking lesson included for the same price as eating out!

Our bi-lingual property manger is on hand for questions or taking care of any emergency and is always happy to help. Just ask!

Weekly housekeeping services are included.

Getting Around

Centro Historico attractions are all within easy walking distance. Taxis are plentiful and affordable - or take an Uber! Great inter-city bus service as well as national bus service with stops close by. Merida airport is 15 mins by taxi and has direct international flights from the US and Europe, and many more flights through Mexico City. Cancun airport is about 4 hours away by very affordable and comfortable air-conditioned bus service.

We look forward to welcoming you to Casa de Florencia, your private, relaxing Merida Centro holiday home.

About Barbara

We're a group of friends that love to travel and explore. We are interior designers, foodies and travel lovers who fell in love with Merida and want to share our lovely Centro house with new friends from around the world.

Barbara purchased this house in 2015

Why Barbara chose Merida

Before we purchased our house in 2015, it was owned by the family of a popular local architect. Originally used as an artist studio, it has a wonderful sense of openness, light and tranquility that we adore. We added some modern features and provided some of those special touches you'd expect to find in boutique hotels.

We hope you enjoy it as much as we do....

What makes this house unique

Imagine enjoying drinks on your rooftop terrace during the cool evenings or a refreshing swim after a day exploring Merida Centro or the Yucatan Peninsula....

Wonderful week @ Casa de Florencia

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at beautiful Casa de Florencia this week. The house is ideally located, on a quiet street near the centro historico, and comfortably accommodated our group of 6 adults. The house is well-equipped for meal preparation-or not... There are many great restaurants within walking distance. Both Barbara, the owner, and Mirza, the on site manager, were extremely helpful- our pre-arrival questions were addressed right away, and a minor plumbing issue during our stay was dealt with promptly. Having a 'house' cell phone was a useful feature for calling restaurants and reserving taxis. With temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius several afternoons during our stay, we really appreciated the plunge pool and the shaded courtyard. We had booked several day trips (Celestun, Chichen Itza and Uxmal) with Destino Tours and Alex, our driver and guide, was amazing.. and fun! The roof terrace was worth the climb up a spiral staircase- we had breakfast up there several times in the cool of the morning. We booked Chef Marcos for a multi-course dinner one night, learned a lot about the typical ingredients of the Yucatan-and the food was delicious! We all agree it was a super experience all round- we'd stay at Casa de Florencia again!

A beautiful base for exploring Merida

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely week in this supremely comfortable and very stylish house. We enjoyed exploring the streets, markets, museums, churches and cafés of Merida in the mornings, and then returning to the calm and very welcome cool of the pool and fanned and air-conditioned rooms for lazy lengthy siestas every afternoon. Our visit was in late May and it was baking hot every day, reaching 40 degrees and higher - we couldn't have survived the heat without this haven!

At sunset, we would head out again for dinner and walking around. Merida puts on great and free Mayan or Mexican dancing and/or singing almost every evening attended by large numbers of locals and visiting Mexicans, many of whom know all the tunes. Fascinating not just for the cultural exposition but also for people watching.

We found many good cafes and restaurants - our favourite daytime cafes included our 'local' Latte 47 (for its chic western-style atmosphere, food and drinks), Cafe Habana for its film-set type 'scene', Hotel Caribe in Plaza Hidalgo for the best freshly squeezed orange juice in Merida, and Cafe Montejo in Santiago (for its charming staff, courtyard setting and amazing crushed ice frappes). Our favourite Mexican restaurants were La Chaya Maya, Apoala and the inventive Rosa Sur 32, all in/around Parque de Santa Lucia, about 15 mins walk. For a change of cuisine we liked Oliva Enoteca (excellent Italian, a couple of blocks from the house), Botella Verde (delicious tapas in a charming garden setting, also close by), and Papuana (good Peruvian, same side of Parque de Santa Lucia as La Chaya Maya).

Thank you Barbara and friends. And also many thanks to their excellent local property managers, Mirza and Erich, who were always on hand, and speedily and very graciously fixed a couple of minor maintenance issues with minimum fuss and inconvenience.

Lovely renovated home

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I and a friend recently stayed at this pretty home in Merida. Barbara, the owner, was prompt and helpful in all emails before our arrival, and during our stay. Erick, the property manager, was helpful and responsive. The house was very nicely appointed and comfortable. The internet was excellent. We had some wonderful day trips to surrounding areas with William Lawson Tours, which were recommended by Barbara and Erik. The driver and chef recommended by Barbara and Erik were also excellent. The only thing that keeps me from giving the home four stars is the location - we like to walk, but wish that we had been a few blocks closer to either the Cathedral area, or Calle 60. We were close to the Paseo de Montejo, but there wasn't as much going on there as there was along Calle 60 and near the Cathedral. Another thing that we'd wished for would have been a heated pool, which I know is not the norm in Mexico, but it would have been nice, as I found it too cold to swim. Maybe a thermal blanket would help, as the air temperature was certainly hot.

Casa La Florencia

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this Merida home. It is roomy, clean, secure and convenient to all the city has to offer. Cab service is excellent, very reasonable, knowledgeable. We were so impressed with the care we received from the owner, via email and the managers Mirza and Erik. Nice cool-off pool. Great food at Oliva restaurant just a walk away. Had wonderful pyramid/hacienda/cenote tours with Alex of Destino Tours. Overall, a truly super place to stay. Highly recommend.

WONDERFUL CASA!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed for 9 nights in this casa. We were a party of 3 adults in Merida for a trip to experience this welcoming, safe Colonial city and the Mayan ruins and culture. The casa has everything you need to be happy and comfortable, a true home away from home. The location is great for walking(we didn't rent a car). Taxis are inexpensive and we used them when we were tired. Clean, great beds and real linen sheets!!! Didn't need to use AC as the casa has powerful ceiling fans that I wish I had in my own home. Nice, elegant design, colors, furniture, pool, hammocks!!!! washer/dryer, endless bottled water.

From the initial communications with Barbara and the booking process to the arrival and stay at the home where Mirza met us and was available by a cell phone that belongs to the casa. Just fantastic!!

I highly recommend this property and I would stay in it again if I return to Merida, which I would like to.

Also highly recommended: William Lawson tours to the Mayan Ruins, cenotes, Hacienda tour, and many other tours available. We spent 4 days with them and it was wonderful.

Our favorite restaurants: Oliva Kitchen, Mercado 60, Wayan-e, Apoala, Casa San Angel for breakfast, La Chaya Maya, Pistache Patisseriie Boulangerie for coffee, breakfast,

Thank you Barbara, Mirza, and beautiful Merida!

Map

Car: not necessary

Since the Spanish conquest, Mérida has been the cultural capital of the Yucatan peninsula. A town steeped in colonial history, with narrow streets, broad central plazas and the region’s best museums. It’s also a perfect place from which to kick off your adventure into the rest of Yucatán state. There are cheap eats, thriving craft markets, dancing and free entertainment just about every night somewhere in the downtown area.

Long popular with European travelers looking to go beyond the hubbub of Quintana Roo’s resort towns, Mérida is also the cultural crossroads of the region and it's Mayan wonders, ceynote swimming caves, eco regions with flocks of pink flamingos and the nearby beaches of the Emerald coast.

Merida's greatest asset are the people who live here. They have a beautiful town, and they know it....
