Northern New Mexico Getaway

Property type house

About the property

nestled amongst the pines and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, on the high road to Taos, lies the village of Truchas. The Village was founded in the year 1754 by the King of Spain who granted land to several families (of which many still remain). There are numerous artisans that live and work in the village. Weavers, potters, sculptors, painters, wood carvers, furniture makers,

contemporary and traditional. We have many galleries and open studios for you to explore. I have two bedrooms each with wireless internet, the larger of the two has a kiva fireplace and a wood burning stove. Both rooms have a flat screen TV. A small library with internet access (where I serve coffee, tea, fresh juice and homemade biscuits and jams) also has a wood burning stove for those chilly winter mornings. Down comforters and pillows are in both rooms. A shared bathroom with new mexican tiles around the shower and sink areas.WE DO NOT OFFER KITCHEN FACILITIES, there is a refrigerator, microwave and an outdoor barbecue for your use. Restaurants are within a ten to twenty minute drive. Pets allowed (if agreeable with my pets) Laundry facilities are available. Hiking and Biking out the front door. And for those who fish, ski, golf or horse back ride, you can find all of that and much more within a twenty mile range. Santa Fe is 45 minutes south, Ojo Caliente Hot Springs 45 minutes West and Taos one hour north. If you are a writer, an artist or someone who just enjoys the clean mountain air and the beauty that surrounds you, you will find paradise in our home and the magic of Truchas and Northern New Mexico.

Lovely and unique getaway on the High Road to Toas

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay during our last evening in Northern New Mexico. We felt that we saved the best for last. Our host Lorey was very welcoming and the space she has created is peaceful, roomy, and so unique. I wish we had more time there but will look forward to staying in Truchas again in the future.

Beautiful paradise

  • 5 of 5

Laurey's place is amazing. It has everything one will need for a comfortable stay. The wifi works fast. There is a tv with cable. Like everyone commented, she makes amazing blueberry muffins for breakfast. They came right out of the oven and were warm. It reminded me of my time in France when i used to get fresh warm croissants in the morning. She has two friendly dogs. Truchas is a beautiful quiet place. I would recommend stopping there on your way to Taos.

Absolutely Heaven!

We had a wonderful night's stay at your place. The wine and breakfast treats were so scrumptious and you have put together a peaceful and truly unique New Mexico experience. The peace and tranquility of Truchas against the rugged mountains and soft morning lit meadows are just about as good as it gets! I sat on the portal in the morning with the fresh brew you brought and homemade berry muffins, and listened to the bees conversing with the wild flowers as they began inspections. A humming bird joined me a couple of feet from my nose and then darted off. My wife sat curled up with one of the book offerings adorning the rooms. When we left we felt as though we had decompressed in a really short time and your stay has stayed with us. We will be back soon and thanks for more of what we miss most in life--

Want to return very good location to Taos and Santa Fe

  • 5 of 5

I have already submitted my review this is a second request. Please review your records. Lorey was a great host. She knows the area and the location is right on the Turquoise trail. Her place is very Southwest with dog friendly accommodations. Her breakfast muffins are fabulous. Had a great time.

We loved it here. Truchas is a wonderful get away, a perfect point from which to explore the Taos High Road. And Laurey’s beautiful place is so nice to return to in the evening, to sit, drink a glass of wine, read....

The Perfect Weekend

  • 5 of 5

So many times when we come to NM, we stay in Santa Fe which is wonderful but we wanted to stretch ourselves and explore the areas north of Santa Fe - and there are many to choose from. We have driven the High Road to Taos before and are always blown away when we get to Truchas, NM. The views of the mountains are breathtaking and the town quaint. So this trip, we decided to stay in Truchas and explore this magical area more.

Staying at Lorey's place, Northern New Mexico Getaway was perfect. She is the ideal balance of being available and giving us privacy. She shared areas to hike, galleries to explore, and little out of the way restaurants within 30 minutes to try (as there are no restaurants in Truchas currently). We not only enjoyed her wit but her place as well. Although attached to her house, it is COMPLETELY private with a sitting area, a nice bathroom (tiled shower), and two separate bedrooms. We only needed one bedroom. It was cozy yet spacious, filled with books, and art (many of her photographs) she has collected over the years. She had a fire going when we arrived and a bottle of wine. Each morning she accommodated the time we wanted our breakfast - we just wanted yogurt and fruit but hear she makes incredible muffins. Coffee, tea, and water bottles are also available. There is no kitchen but she has a small refrigerator.

Thanks again Lorey. See you soon!
