Guestbook comments from the owner

Words can't describe what a fantastic home this is.

The views were fabulous every morning just reminded us again of how beautiful it is.

There were six of us and the house was perfect for us. We could spread out and enjoy every inch.

Our stay was way to short and all of us would love to come back.

Mauricio (taxi driver) was such a help to us - we loved his stories and how great he took care of us.

Beautiful villa in a lovely setting with stunning views

  • 5 of 5

Casa das Flores is a great villa to stay in. It is beautifully furnished and equipped with great attention to detail. It felt like a real home from home and we had a wonderful time. There was nothing we would fault and would highly recommend it.

Owner's Response: Thank you Ian. We are currently spending 10 days at Casa das Flores which gives us the opportunity to make sure the maintenance is completely up to date. New heat pump fitted for the pool to make sure we maintain at least a temperature of 22c throughout the Winter ( additional pool heating is available on request) Paintwork being thoroughly checked etc etc .

Beautiful villa with stunning views

  • 5 of 5

We have just enjoyed a wonderful holiday in Madeira, made better by staying in Casa das Flores which felt like home from home.

There was nothing that this villa lacked for us as inside is fully equipped from the fabulous kitchen to the comfy beds!

Outside the pool is great and the view is amazing - you can even spot whales & dolphins!

We had some lovely days out as there is plenty to do on the island. We especially enjoyed the whale watching and saw loads of dolphins, 2 whales & a turtle! We booked with H20 in the Marina & would recommend them.

Nice restaurants are found down in the Marina and the local village is also nice to wander to as it has a little shop & snack bar.

Thanks Richard & Doreen for a wonderful holiday in your villa!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We enjoyed meeting you. Casa das Flores is linked to various parts of the village by paths. There are numerous shops where the daily basics can be purchased. The Pingo supermarket at Calheta beach is a 10 minute car journey. Spring and Autumn is good for whale watching whist dolphins can be seen throughout the year. Richard

Stunning Villa

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Casa das Flores a couple of days after the devastating Madeira fires. Richard was fantastic, keeping us updated and informed at all times. Vanda and her team and Jose the pool maintenance man did an amazing job, clearing the ash from the villa terraces and the pool. Vanda told us that the previous day she was personally helping to put out a fire at a nearby villa. Although a lot of locals must have been personally affected, they were amazingly stoical.

Casa das Flores offers the highest standard of living both inside and out. The kitchen has everything that you could possibly need for dining in. Pingu supermarket, down at the marina, stocks just about everything that you would need and there is a small supermarket a couple of minutes walk from the villa where we bought fresh bread in the mornings.

The soft furnishings were extremely comfortable, especially the beds which had very high quality mattresses.

We had glorious weather and we were very grateful for the pool and shaded areas. There are flowers in abundance around the terraces and garden, it really is a Casa das Flores.

We were a little pensive about the villa not having air conditioning but it was no problem at all. The villa is located on a hill overlooking the ocean and you get a gentle breeze in the evenings and during the day there are shutters, that when closed kept the heat out.

Although Calheta has the only sandy beach on the island it is not a 'tourist trap'. It is very clean and family orientated. The only things that broke the peace and quiet at the villa were the church bells, the morning wake up calls from the cockerels and the locals driving by to sell their fruit and veg from their vans!

All the main areas are linked by an incredible tunnel system. A car is essential though to really see the island. However driving in Madeira is not for the faint hearted... steep climbs, hair pin bends and sheer drops. I have to admit that I may have missed some of the more spectacular sights as I had my eyes closed. (obviously I wasn't driving)

My 2 teenage children loved the tandem paragliding from the cliff edge to the left of the villa and the highlight for all of us was dolphin & whale watching. We booked with H2O at Calheta Marina. There were only 6 of us in a small speed boat and we saw lots of Dolphins, whales and Turtles .. magical.

All in all, a fantastic holiday in a beautiful villa on a stunning island. Thank you for sharing it with us Richard

Owner's Response: Thank you Julie for you kind remarks. I have always been impressed by the way the Madeirans work together, making sure that visitors inconvenience are minimised at times when floods and fires have affected the Island. We enjoy welcoming guests to Casa das Flores which was designed and built by us to maximise the wonderful views. The Villa faces SSW and positioning of the windows, thicker than average walls and balconies means we can maintain a constant temperature in in Villa of circa 20/22c throughout the year. Back up underfloor heating and a wood burner are available for the Winter when the exterior temperature can drop to 10c at night rising up to 20c on sunny days. We often stay at the Villa with friends and make sure it is fully equipped for a stress free holiday, our daughter a Pru Leith trained chef makes sure that we have adequate equipment for catering! Arco da Calheta is well away from the tourist hotspots and is recommended for a relaxing break in a picturesque environment. There are numerous walks in the immediate area for those that require a more active lifestyle with a 11 meter heated pool waiting for a tired walkers return. Richard D Yeomans

Beautiful villa in perfect location - couldn't have been better!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay in Casa das Flores - the villa was spotless and had everything you could need. The pool and sun lounger area was perfect and has the sun all day long - we were very lucky to have gorgeous weather all week. Vanda was lovely and really helpful and brought gifts of wine and Madeira cake which was a really lovely touch.

The local village of Calheta was ideal as had the beach which my 3 year old niece adored and there is an Italian restaurant along the harbour front (I can't remember what it's called) which was absolutely fantastic and we went twice within the week!

We would absolutely love to return one day and will defintely be booking longer than a week - it went much too fast!

Thank you for a lovely stay in your perfect home!

A beautiful villa

  • 5 of 5

This is the best villa I have ever stayed in. Very spacious, very well equipped, and comfortable. The pool was exceptional, warm and a good length for swimming, and the water was salty rather than chlorinated which was a plus. The flowers around the terrace and the gardens were as lovely as in the photos. We hired a car and saw most of the island. We tried several restaurants but our favourite was the New Era in Calheta next to the marina, with good food, friendly service and also showed the Euros football in an inside room for those who were interested.

Richard was very helpful to us in any queries we had. The only problem we experienced was noise from a nearby building site which prevented us from enjoying the terrace and pool on weekdays, so we had to go out in the car a lot more than we had planned to avoid the noise. This was very unfortunate as otherwise this would have been the perfect holiday destination. Once that building is finished I am sure it will become quiet and peaceful again.

Madeira is a lovely green, beautiful and mountainous island, and I can thoroughly recommend it.

Owner's Response: I was disturbed to hear of the problem of noise from a building site. A Villa, circa 500 meters from Casa das Flores has been under construction since February 2016. Previous guests have not commented about the works.I spent the second week of June at the Villa and noise from the site was not obtrusive, being no worse that the noise from a passing car. The construction in the middle of June had reached roof level.

Excellent Property

  • 5 of 5

The whole experience was very very good, directions to property were spot on. Vanda the property manager met us at the Villa and welcomed us to Madeira, she gave us a brief but In formative guide to the property and surrounding area all that was needed after a long day travelling.

The property is very well appointed obviously used as a family home when not rented out all fixtures and fittings are a very high standard.

We had intended to dine out a lot during the course of our stay, but with the excellent kitchen and barbaque area we dined at the villa nearly every day, the local supermarket in Calheta supplied all our requirements very good fresh meat counter.

If anyone considers this property a car is essential as it is 4K from Calheta centre, though there is few local shops and bars for small essentials.

I would recommend this Villa to anyone who wants a ice quiet relaxing holiday

CALHETA
Car: necessary

The perfect holiday destination. Situated 260 metres above sea level and accessed by its own private road amongst banana plantations and small holdings, Casa das Flores sits on a terrace in the pretty, rural village of Calheta well away from the bustle of Funchal. Thanks to the new road system anywhere on the island is now within easy reach and some of the island's top attractions are only a short drive away. Within 5 minutes' drive you reach Calheta with its protected beach of golden sand, a large marina offering dolphin/whale watching excursions and deep sea fishing boats for charter, a hotel, supermarket, art gallery and good choice of restaurants; or 15 minutes will bring you to the laurel, levada and waterfall wonderland of Rabaçal and the wide open expanses of the Paul da Serra - fantastic walking terrain. Car hire is necessary to enjoy all that this area has to offer and to explore the beautiful sub tropical island of Madeira.

Other Activities: Calheta Marina houses several superb deep sea fishing and whale dolphin/whale-watching boats , scuba diving is also available -ask for details

Golf: The owners are members at Palheiro golf, a reduced green fee can be obtained for guests.
