About Steve Young

I grew up in Southern Illinois, and could not wait to 'Get Out,' 'Escape,' and go to the big city. I went to school in Chicago at the Illinois Institute of Technology, and left Southern Illinois far behind. I thought this was great.

I had a very successful career in the online advertising, marketing, and market research world catering to big pharma. In a normal year I would fly 125,000 miles and see many places, countries and sites.

As I grew older and my 'success' continued I felt more and more that something was missing. I began to yearn for the hills of Southern Illinois, the slower pace of life, and the people I left behind more and more.

I 2013, I came home for a few weeks to help my mother move my father into a nursing home. After this was completed I flew to Milan for business, and on my way back I received a call that my mother had had a stroke. This was a life changing event for me, and I never really went home.

My father spent the year getting worse, and my Mother spent the year getting better. When my father died in December of 2013, I decided to 'officially' move to Southern Illinois in order to spend more time with my mother and be closer with family. I also made the decision to leave the company I worked for and do something simpler, and local to Southern Illinois.

June 1st, 2014 I started my company with the goal to create vacation rental homes in Southern Illinois and help the area grow tourism. Southern Illinois is a beautiful and special place, and I would like to share it with as many people as possible.

Steve Young purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Steve Young chose Buncombe

This property was an old Bed and Breakfast, and the view was spectacular. The property was foreclosed on and a friend that I went to high school with had purchased it and remodeled the main house. Once I purchased it I started refurbishing the guesthouse. Now that it is completed I think it is one of the nicest properties on the wine trail.

The property will sleep a maximum of 16 people, or can be rented to separate parties in the main house and guesthouse.

What makes this cabin unique

The proximity to wineries, and area attractions is also great for this property.

A tucked away gem!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a great time at this cabin! The house was set up with everything you can need for your stay. The rooms were a great size for our group to spend time together. The back deck had an amazing view and we enjoyed sitting and watching the deer and all the fireflies in the evening. There were so many fireflies it was like glitter in the sky! Just beautiful!

Very cozy & unique setup

  • 4 of 5

Had a great long weekend in the area doing some hiking and hitting the wine trail (which has surprisingly good wine for the midwest!). Hanging out in this cabin was a perfect end of each day. The unique setup of 2 private suites with the common area in between was really well done. We were a mom & dad and 20-something daughter so didn't leverage it as much as i could see with two couples or small families. Decor and furnishings were top notch - new, clean, well appointed and well stocked (enough dishes, towels, spices, etc., that are sometimes too sparsely provided). Days were still chilly spring, so didn't hang out on the deck, but had a very nice view of countryside/farms. Is another rental house pretty close on property, you don't feel it/see it, but did hear renters happily enjoying their deck and firepit well into the wee hours each night - but never travel without earplugs so all was good.

Great place to stay on the Wine Trail

  • 5 of 5

We decided to have a kids-free couple of days at one of our favorite places to relax, Southern Illinois Wine Trail. This was the first time we stayed at this cabin. It was perfect. The location was great for getting to the wineries. And it was just warm enough at night for the frogs to sing behind the open field behind the cabin. The music was magical.

We had a great time. And the cabin was awesome.
