About Steve Young

I grew up in Southern Illinois, and could not wait to 'Get Out,' 'Escape,' and go to the big city. I went to school in Chicago at the Illinois Institute of Technology, and left Southern Illinois far behind. I thought this was great.

I had a very successful career in the online advertising, marketing, and market research world catering to big pharma. In a normal year I would fly 125,000 miles and see many places, countries and sites.

As I grew older and my 'success' continued I felt more and more that something was missing. I began to yearn for the hills of Southern Illinois, the slower pace of life, and the people I left behind more and more.

I 2013, I came home for a few weeks to help my mother move my father into a nursing home. After this was completed I flew to Milan for business, and on my way back I received a call that my mother had had a stroke. This was a life changing event for me, and I never really went home.

My father spent the year getting worse, and my Mother spent the year getting better. When my father died in December of 2013, I decided to 'officially' move to Southern Illinois in order to spend more time with my mother and be closer with family. I also made the decision to leave the company I worked for and do something simpler, and local to Southern Illinois.

June 1st, 2014 I started my company with the goal to create vacation rental homes in Southern Illinois and help the area grow tourism. Southern Illinois is a beautiful and special place, and I would like to share it with as many people as possible.

Steve Young purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Steve Young chose Illinois

This property was an old Bed and Breakfast, and the view was spectacular. The property was foreclosed on and a friend that I went to high school with had purchased it and remodeled the main house. Once I purchased it I started refurbishing the guesthouse. Now that it is completed I think it is one of the nicest properties on the wine trail.

The property will sleep a maximum of 16 people, or can be rented to separate parties in the main house and guesthouse.

What makes this cabin unique

The proximity to wineries, and area attractions is also great for this property.

Beyond perfect! I needed a place to stay throughout most of the 2015 Spring and had many concerns as I was not familiar with area and was going to be alone most of the time. Steve, the owner, was so incredibly helpful; patiently answering all my questions and always responding promptly. (This alone set this rental apart from other places I considered.) He was so wonderful to work with and always available for anything I needed before and during my stay. The place itself was so delightfully charming. A lot attention to detail (including snacks upon arrival and throughout the stay) and everything first rate to make for an enjoyable stay. Perfect kitchen, comfy beds and furniture, and beautiful bathrooms. Bedrooms each are HUGE with queen beds, couches, chairs and own access to outside deck (and the fresh smell of the bedding and towels is just an added bonus!) Everything I needed for a relaxing, cozy, safe long stay. Really could not ask for anything more. Best VRBO I've ever been in:) Looking forward to going back!

Beautifil, clean cabin that I would love to revisit.

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was easy to find and is in driving distance of many local wineries and a great state park for hiking. The cabin was beautiful, clean and well stocked with everything needed for a comfortable vacation. The owner was extremely friendly, helpful and responded quickly to our every need. We will definitely be back!

This place is absolutely perfect. It's beautiful, clean, and relaxing. It was close to several wineries, and the cabin was well equipped with supplies. We really appreciated the detail in the cabin....the finishes etc. We will be back!!

Beautiful Property - Perfect Location

  • 4 of 5

This was one of the most charming VRBO properties we have ever rented. And it sits in a perfect location along I-57 -- almost in the heart of Shawnee Wine trail. For those who enjoy wineries and their weekend entertainment, it couldn't be beat. And the owner clearly went to great pains in the remodeling of whatever he started with, to make this a memorable rental. That was made even better by the little extras -- such as gourmet coffees, popcorn, snack bars, et al). The only shortfall was the lack of WiFi service; but then there are times when we all need to get away from the internet. So for two couples seeking to "do the Southern Illinois wine trail", this is the place!

Was a great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed staying here. As the other reviews said the place was beyond what was described. Steve was quick to respond to our needs and went out of his way to make our stay enjoyable... ferne cliff and the wineries close by was a bonus.
