In the Adirondack area, Camp Odonata is a beautiful year-long log cabin, providing the comfort of all modern amenities.
Camp Odonata is located in the private Mt Pisgah Park, a secluded and calm area, less than 5 minutes from downtown Saranac Lake. In summer, just relax on an Adirondack chair on the deck and enjoy the wonderful sunsets !
You will be able to completely relax at Camp Odonata, surrounded by nature. Great fishing just minutes away at Lake Colby and Lake Flower in the Saranac Chain of Lakes. Restaurants, shops and multiple activities in the village of Saranac Lake are less than 5 minutes by car. Lake Placid less than 15 minutes - offering many shops, restaurants and beach.
In winter, you will be able to ski at Mt Pisgah (5 minutes drive) or Whiteface(less than 30 minutes). In summer, you will love the beach, canoes and boats on one of the many lakes of the area.
The perfect Adirondack gateway !
I am writing this review with mixed feelings. The house is gorgeous and well maintained and the views are spectacular. The house easily accommodated 2 families of 4. We liked the proximity to Lake Placid and our keeps enjoyed the tubing at Mt. Pisgah. For the most part the house was well stocked. We had asked ahead of time about basic household essentials, to which we were told that the house was stocked. I would recommend bringing your own kitchen supplies as there was no dishsoap and we couldn't find extra trashbags.
The issues that we had surrounded our arrival. As we were visiting the Lake Placid region in the middle of winter, we had inquired ahead of time about who would clear snow should it snow during our stay. We were told that there is a local caretaker that would take care of that should the need arise. We were also told that the public road to the house is well maintained and a 4 wheel drive vehicle is recommended. It had snowed prior to our arrival. I would say that in the winter months, that a 4 wheel drive vehicle is not just a recommendation, that it is a requirement or else you will not likely get up the hill. Additionally, the public road was not very well plowed when we arrived, which was challenging even in a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Upon arriving at the house, the driveway to the house was not plowed. The road was very narrow due to the snow, so there was not an option to park on the street. Additionally, after driving 4+ hours with young children, it was annoying to arrive to this. We made the decision to pull into the unplowed driveway as there was not a ton of snow and in doing suffered damage to the front end of our vehicle from an object that couldn't be seen in the snow. Upon contacting the owner, they basically laid the blame 100% on us. They said we should have called before going into the driveway and the local caretaker would have come, although we were told it would be clear. The neighbor across the street took pity on us and came over with how snow blower and snow blowed some of the driveway. Additionally, prior to our arrival we were told that the house would be unlocked by the local caretaker and the keys left on the counter. When we arrived, the door was locked. We attempted to call the owner several times prior to getting them to answer to give us the code to the lockbox. Again, this was extremely frustrating and disappointing after travelling so long with small children.
My family of 5, including 3 small children & our friends with a one year old stayed at the beautiful camp Odonata in October.
The property was all we imagined & more. It was spotless. They views from the huge porch were amazing. They had a fire pit with fire wood ready for us. We enjoyed an outside fire as well as a fire inside. We would definitely stay there again.
This house is beautiful and is perfect for families looking to have more room for the kids to play and all enjoy meals together! We loved the rustic decor and feel to the house. We will definitely be staying with you again! Thank you, thank you!
The property was AMAZING! Chris and Sandy thought of everything! I went to celebrate my 26th birthday with friends and family. We went on a hike one day (Mt. Amperstand -- highly recommend) and paddle boarding at Lake Clear the next. I would definitely stay at Camp Odonata again. The location is PERFECT! The home is clean and HUGE! The view from the kitchen as we prepared dinner each night was breathtaking. The deck was fantastic -- the grill for bbq while watching the sunset could not have been better. It was an unforgettable time and I can't wait to go again... the one thing to note is that if you're speaking downstairs they will hear you upstairs so make sure not to tell any secrets ;) That's what happens when you're staying in an all wood cabin! Thank you so so much Sandy and Chris. Hopefully I can swing a trip with family this Winter!!!
We really enjoyed our stay. We had everything we needed at our fingertips. The questions we had ahead of time were quickly answered by the owners. All the necessities and then some (wi-fi, pantry items, TV, etc). Our family would stay here again in a heartbeat!
What a wonderful house! We stayed here for a week - three generations of our family. The house was perfect for the eight of us. We had most everything we needed, including pantry items. We loved the peace and quiet, the view, the furnishings, the large dining table, the gas grill.
We loved the decor - the stairway was wonderful. I wish I could post the picture I took.
The location was great too. We loved Saranac Lake. There was a lot to do - between the 8 of us, we walked through the town and on the Saranac Lake Riverwalk, hiked, swam, visited the nearby Wild Center, watched fireworks in Riverside Park. We will come back here if we can.
