Staying with my wife and three kids, ages 13, 11, and 5, we enjoyed the sleek modern design and quiet building. The location could not have been better, right in the middle of downtown near food trucks, shopping, and many public transit lines. Kitchen was a great asset. Only drawback was the sleeper sofa, which was broken by previous guests and couldn't be fixed in time for our visit. But overall all five members of our family liked the accommodations.
Reservations and check in was very easy through Stay Alfred. The condo was just as advertised. It was immaculate throughout with a well stocked kitchen to prepare small meals. The MAX line was nearby and most things we were interested in were within an easy walk.
We had a two bedroom rental on the ninth floor with great views looking out over director's park. We were visiting our daughter who lives in South East so it was an easy commute over the bridge. We were in walking distance to many restaurants and the Art Museum so the location was ideal. The apartment was clean and tidy and the kitchen was well equipped. The only complaint was that the furnishings were a little beat up and cheap looking and the linens could have been a little better.
The condo was well equipped and spacious. Great downtown location and we were able to walk just about everywhere. The views were amazing and when it was clear you even had a partial view of Rainier (I think it was Ranier!) Checking in and out was a breeze and there were no complicated directions. There were a couple of small flaws and one big one:
The heating/ AC system was a bit "hot and cold". Literally. We froze in the master, while our son sweltered in the smaller room, but there was extra blankets so we adapted. There was quite a bit of street noise. You could clearly hear skateboarders, cars and foot traffic below. The major flaw was the master bed. For starters the bed is too big and the way the room constructed causes the bed to over hang across the bathroom door. I could totally get over that if the bed itself wasn't severely sagging in the middle. It was so significant that gettting out of the bed was actually quite difficult and sleeping in the bed required you to just succumb to the center. We actually considered sleeping on the roll out couch/ bed. Overall it was a great stay, but I'd only consider staying again if they replaced the bed. Which really needs to be replaced. Just get a queen sized bed that would actually fit the room better.
The location was amazing - food and drinks were all within a few minutes walk and the floor to ceiling windows gave a great view of downtown. The unit was well stocked, too. They provided dish soap, laundry detergent, a few toiletries in the bathrooms, and had sheets/pillows for the sofa bed as well as enough towels for 5 people. The beds were not very comfortable in either the master or second bedroom and the unit overall had a very corporate feel to it (I think it is a corporate housing facility) which is not a negative thing, but something to be aware of if you are looking for something more charming. They do not offer any bag-check or storage options, so you pretty much have to leave with all your stuff at 11 unless they are able to accommodate a late check out. Something to keep in mind if you have a late flight out.
Things that could be improved:
- Only 1 door key for 5 people to share, which was inconvenient and caused some of our group to have to sit in the lobby and wait for others to return.
- Second bedroom doesn't have a ton of privacy. It has a large sliding door that opens directly to the sitting room but if someone is staying on the sofabed, it feels a bit cramped.
- 1 person in our group (the first to arrive) was denied entry even after I called to add him to the reservation prior to check in. This was resolved quickly but inconvenient and frustrating for the person who could not get access to the unit. It was just lucky that I had not put my phone into airplane mode and could call them to let him in.
I could not have picked a more beautiful, clean, and efficient place to stay in Portland! The view was magnificent. The place was spotless! We're definitely thinking of staying there next year!
