Want to find something cool? Just walk outside your door and head in any direction. You'll find a huge selection of awesome places around every corner. Here are a few of our local favorites.

Our Local Recommendations:

Kalé- Have you ever tasted Japanese curry? One of the most popular dishes in the Land of the Rising Sun, it is a hearty, rich comfort food that is made with onions, carrots, potatoes and beef, pork or chicken. On a cold and rainy Portland day, this flavorful and fragrant stew is the ultimate dish to warm you up inside. Head down to Kalé to try it for yourself!

One minute walk from your Apartment on 9th Avenue

Brunch Box- After a night of thoroughly enjoying the Portland bar scene, there's nothing better to sort out your hangover than a big, greasy brunch. Imagine this: a sandwich with a big juicy cheeseburger inside, with warm, gooey grilled cheese on buttery Texas toast in place of the buns. If reading that has made you start drooling, Brunch Box is where you should head!

One minute walk from your Apartment on 9th Avenue

Case Study Coffee- Hands down, Case Study is the best place to go to in the neighborhood for your caffeine fix. Hot coffee, the buzz of conversation, old wood, the sound of the rain on the windows outside and the warm earthy smell of roasting beans. Feel free to settle in for a while with that new book you picked up from Powells and enjoy the atmosphere.

3 minute walk from your Apartment on 9th Avenue

Bing Mi- Have you ever tried Chinese crepes? Bing Mi is a great example of the excellent food trucks that Portland has to offer, and they serve up mouthwatering savory crepes. These delightful packets of deliciousness are filled with egg, black bean paste, green onions, chili sauce, cilantro, pickled vegetables and crispy wonton crackers. Yum! (PS. You can even add an extra egg or a cracker to make the crepe even more amazing.)

2 minute walk from your Apartment on 9th Avenue

Tasty n Alder- This restaurant is incredibly busy, and you'll have to wait for a table -- but it's for very good reason. One of the hottest brunch and lunch spots in Portland, it serves up legendary dishes such as Korean Fried Chicken served with a gorgeous gooey egg and spicy kimchi. Or, try the wonderfully indulgent Auntie Paula's French Toast with whipped cream and nectarine maple syrup. Plus, there are a lot of cool places in the area to check out while you wait for your table.

The unit is nicely decorated and looks pretty new to me. Check in was easy. The other people staying in the building were nice and not annoying. The only reasons I deducted the 1 star was because the parking garage was majorly expensive and the unit was pretty loud with city noises (I’m a light sleeper).

Great view, great location.

  • 3 of 5

The listing was accurate. The property was clean.

We were surprised, staying in a high end condo downtown, that the furnishing were low end and functional and that the plants were all plastic. The furniture layout was odd, there was a big couch backed up to the view window so that it's view was the kitchen/dining room. No chairs place to take advantage of the view.

We had difficulties keeping the master bedroom warm (lots of glass windows) without having the guest room be sauna-like.

There was a full kitchen with knives, but no cutting board.

The master bathroom shower did not drain at all when we arrived. We called service, but no one ever came to fix it.

We had a great weekend.

Great Location! Modern Apartment!

  • 5 of 5

Great, centrally located, modern apartment in downtown Portland. We walked almost everywhere! OMSI is across the bridge but only a 1.5 mile walk. The apartment was very clean & modern and we really appreciated the decor. The view was okay, I wish that we were higher up, but the floor to ceiling windows allowed us the best view we could get from the 8th floor. The only negative thing I can say, which doesn't warrant me taking away a star, is that the apartment is a different one than shown in the pictures. However, it is 100% comparable and you really wouldn't be able to tell if you didn't go back and look at the pictures. Check-in was a breeze too! We will definitely be staying there next time we are in Portland.

Modern Condo in a Great Central Location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this property on a visit to Portland. We loved the view and big windows. Very central location. We were able to walk most anywhere we wanted. We didn't do public transportation, but it appears very good. Condo is very modern and clean. All furnishings are new and comfortable. Kitchen is well stocked with dishes, glasses and cooking appliances. Check in was straightforward. We had access to a very nice fitness center. Only down side is that a garage spot is not included and parking downtown is very expensive. Certainly recommend it.

Clean, secure, modern, great view, centrally located

  • 4 of 5

This apartment was new, centrally located to everything downtown and perfect for two people. The unit has a full kitchen and a washer/dryer. The reason I didn’t give 5 stars is the mattresses are cheap and hard and the pillows were terrible as well. Additionally, I wanted to check out early on the last day and leave my luggage so I could do activities. There was no accommodation for this even though there is a security desk. That really messed up my plans.

However, the location is near perfect. The food trucks are a block away and take up a whole city block. It was nice to take food back and eat at a dining table. Target and the Max train are a few feet away and the museum is close as well. The city blocks are short and you can walk to the waterfront in 15 mins.

The place exceeded my expectations! Beautiful, immaculate, great view and perfect location. The only reason I didn't give it 4 stars was because we planned to check-in at 3pm as stated and we couldn't get in until 4:30pm because the cleaners weren't done. However, Stay Alfred was very good in their communication and apologies with us. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat!
