My wife and I loved this trip with three young kids! The sandy beach was absolutely perfect for the kids to explore for crabs and build sandcastles. The pool, though somewhat small, was plenty for a post-beach hour of swimming and fun. A few points:
1. Tranquility: I did not see or hear another human being outside my family besides the pizza delivery guy for a week. No loud parties, no annoying neighbors, literally nothing except for my family and the water.
2. Fishing. I love it. My wife and I are freshwater anglers in the most amateur sense and were thinking this would be brackish tending toward freshwater, but it’s actually brackish tending toward saltwater. There are lots of crabs off the dock. The fishing is mostly white perch, but there are large striped bass, for tidal waters, in the hours around high tide. Two of them snapped my line, I would say they were 10+ pounders, but I had fun fighting the smaller ones I reeled in. To catch white perch all day, use smaller shiny spinners or small shiny cranks.
3. Time: despite the obvious difficulties of vacationing with young children, the time just seemed to fly at Cedar Point. Take a nap in the recliner, make s’mores in the fire pit, drift in the pool, check out the wildlife from the dock, watch a movie on the couch, go fishing, sleep in the comfortable bed, take a hot shower, enjoy life if only for a short time. Cedar Point will drift away faster than you expect.
Overall, amazing. If you want peace and tranquility, this is it. If you figure out a way to slow down time, let me know.
Brian, I’m glad you enjoyed your stay. Hope to see you back again someday!
Perfect Family Getaway!
There is not much more that I can add to the previous reviews - this is a PERFECT property if you and your family are looking for a private getaway. We (a family of 4 children: 15 months and 3 years) rented this property a few weeks ago and had one of the best vacations in memory. The pool, while not big, was the perfect size for all of us to cool off during the hot afternoons. The beach was perfect for the kids to play in the sand and wade around in the water. We also caught crabs straight off the dock and spent some time fishing there too (though I suggest doing some research on bait as we had no luck). As for the house, it was the just as advertised - clean, well appointed and stocked with everything you'd (kitchen supplies, books, games, etc...) need to have an enjoyable stay. Lastly, Brian was a great host and made himself available for any questions or needs we had during the duration of our stay.
As previous posts have mentioned, if you want a secluded getaway (other than jet-skiers and boaters on the creek we never saw another person while on the property), this is the place! At the same time, you are striking distance to all that the Cambridge area has to offer (great cuts of meat for the grill at Simmon's Center Market, lunch at Stoked or The High Spot, the Blackwater Wildlife Preserve, Emily's Produce, etc...).
We highly recommend this property and are already planning our return for next year. Thanks Brian!
In my opinion this is the perfect place to stay on the eastern shore. During our stay it was rainy and sunny. On the rainy days we lit a fire in the amazing oversized fireplace inside and played games and cooked. The inside design of the house is perfect for this type of fellowship. On the other days, we caught sunrises, sunsets, fish and crabs! I enjoyed reading on the beach while others kayaked and fished. The fire pit was perfect for conversation and s'mores.
Would love to stay here every year, twice a year!
The house is very well maintained. Great little beach for young ones to play in the sand and wade in the water. We caught fish and crabs off the dock every day. The pool is an added bonus. Lots of lawn space for running around and playing too. Beautiful sunsets! Would highly recommend.
Great week on the Chesapeake
We spent a great week on the water. Four of us and our dog. We used the pool every day. The dog was in the Chesapeake every day. We had only 10 minutes of light rain the whole week -- couldn't have been better. Fishing and crabbing from the dock. No giant fish - but fun and relaxing. Bald eagles were flying overhead! Grilling and campfires every night. Flying kites in the large yard. Kayaking and canoeing every day. Long bike rides to Cambridge. We planned our vacation somewhat late and spontaneously. Brian was very flexible and accommodating enabling our vacation to happen. He communicated almost immediately to my emails - making the whole process quite smooth. The house was set up perfectly. We'll remember this fondly for a long time.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful home with us! We spent a nice long weekend relaxing by the water, fishing, kayaking, and making smores ! We loved every minute of being there and did not want to leave!
