About this property

Take a Ferry to the Island of Your Dreams.

Welcome to your vacation home - a barn style summer home on Broad Cove near the ferry. Imagine yourself relaxing on the deck at the end of a busy day while your kids entertain themselves on the lawn and in the field leading to the cove. On the shore is a rocky beach and deep water anchorage (w/heavy mooring). The waterfront includes the use of a dinghy and a float. Or, on cooler days, curl up in front of the fireplace with a good book (well stocked library) while you look out through the french doors.

On the first floor, you will enjoy an open living room w/fireplace, dining room, kitchen. which is well supplied and includes the basic food needs: salt, pepper, flour, sugar, lobster pot, etc. Or, move your meals outdoors for al fresco dining on the deck. There is a half bath on the first floor.

On the second floor, the master bedroom includes a queen sized bed with down comforter, the second has twin beds and and the third has bunk beds. A full bath, well supplied with linens(including swimming towels), has full amenties including a washer and dryer. The playroom includes VCR, DVD player and plenty of tapes and discs. No TV reception, sorry! The loft has a ladder and a wonderful hang-out for the kids or air mattress for sleeping.

Getting to Islesboro is part of the enchantment of this island - you arrive by car ferry which leaves frequently from Lincolnville Beach. This is definitely a summer cottage with a get-away-from-the-world feeling. You will find the comforts of home without the hassle of the work-a-day world. However, you will have connection with wifi and phone.

Islesboro is ten miles long and a mile wide. It offers two grocery stores(w/liquor), a library, bookstore, gift/paper/lunch store and the snack shack at the ferry. You will also find a golf club, public tennis courts and also a kids sailing program. Biking is great - especially to the snack shack which is only 1/4 mile from the house and offering the best sunsets in Maine!

A day trip to Camden, Fort Knox in Bucksport or even antiquing along Rte. 1 will round out your vacation in Maine.

Magical Islesboro Barn
Spent an incredible week here - the pictures of the views and grounds don't do it justice. The barn has all the character of a well loved family vacation home with a fully stocked kitchen, comfortable beds and cozy working fireplace. Felt very private and the private beach was just beyond the field. The island was very quiet and serene in the off season - there was a coffee shop that had fall hours with delicious baked goods and yummy coffee. Cannot recommend the barn enough if you are looking for a magical, slow paced and cozy break.

Absolutely lovely
What an amazing place! Islesboro is a gem of an island offering all the magic of Maine without the crowds. The Barn was a perfect place to stay on our first trip to the island. It was clean and well appointed. The kitchen had everything we needed (and more). As someone who loves to cook, this was a wonderful bonus. The beds were comfortable and inviting. The sheets were 100% cotton, which seems a rarity in vacation rentals these days. There were puzzles and games for rainy days and cozy couches for reading or staring out at the water. The Barn sits on a wonderful property. We loved sipping coffee on the back porch each morning. It is quiet and feels like a world away from everything. We were only there for a week, but we did take the opportunity to walk many of the trails on the island. Roger marked some of the best walks and we made sure to hit them all. He also suggested hitting up the ice cream store in Dark Harbor. We did so early on and ended up there almost every afternoon. We also loved The Fen bakery, the farmer’s market (goats, fresh veggies, and a local mycologist), and the Island Market (they have take away pizza). I’m glad to have found this place and will definitely keep it in mind when we next visit Maine. Thanks, Roger and Maddie for sharing your beautiful barn and for being such wonderful hosts!

Perfect Peaceful Getaway
My family (me, my wife, our four daughters, my parents, and our Siberian Husky) couldn't have asked for a more peaceful place to recharge for a week. Roger and Maddie were extremely gracious hosts who made themselves available to answer questions, advise on attractions, and provide amenities. The island was beautiful and secluded, and we loved every minute of it. Five Stars.

About the host

Host profile image
We are from Ipswich, MA and have been coming to Maine for many years. Roger first came with his parents when he was ten and didn't return for fifteen years when he brought his wife. Later they returned with their three children.
We are now semi-retired. Roger, a Brown graduate, was a contractor and now does preservation consulting, most recently at Old South Church in Boston. Maddie, a graduate of Montserrat College of Art, is a printmaker and fiber artist.
We both think this island and surrounding Penobscot Bay is one of the most beautiful places in the world. It's a place where the biggest going-ons are the Art Shows at the Historical Society. And, no malls.
