Home away from home
Lydia’s property is better than described and her hospitality can not be beat! Lydia was working when we arrived, but she communicated instructions for entering the property using a lock box. We ate breakfast, drank coffee and read books out on the 3rd floor terrace every morning, absorbing the Barcelona sunshine. The apartment was equipped with all of the essentials: linens, paper goods, guide books, and “ how to” instructions for all of the appliances , as well as the heating system and even information on recycling. Lydia provided a refrigerator full of bottled water, sodas, beer, wine, juice, milk, yogurts, cheese, charcuterie and butter, as well as , coffee, teas, fruit and bread. We were so pleased to have a snack waiting for us after traveling all night! Checking out of the apartment was as easy as entering. The apartment is in a residential neighborhood, away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Barcelona. It was very relaxing to return to the quiet neighborhood after a day of sightseeing. We always felt very safe walking around there , both day and night. The apartment is a short walk to the metro and the bustling beach. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this apartment and would definitely stay here again, should we find ourselves back in Barcelona .
The property is by far the best apartment we have rented and we have rented a few. The location is perfect for accessing local attractions and dining recommendations from Lydia were spot on. We arrived early and were able to access the apartment without hesitation from Lydia similarly were we given a later check out to accommodate our flight. The location in a private residential neighbourhood suited us perfectly. The kitchen was stocked with enough tasty morsels for both breakfast and afternoon canapés. We would recommend this property without hesitation, the only consideration is for anyone with mobility issues the apartment is over three levels. This was not an issue for us in fact was part of its charm especially the roof top terrace.
Olympic village treasure
The townhouse is located inthe olympic village about a block and a half from the beach and restaurants. It is located in a community so there is easy access to grocery stores, bakeries and local restaurants. The neighborhood is very quiet and the townhouse has a beautiful rooftop deck and also a lovely courtyard patio, both of which we used daily in either the morning or evening. We were able to walk to many of the sightd ut it is within easy walking distance to buses or subway. Lydia, the owner, was easily accessible and very accomodating. All in all I would give this experiece 5 stars all around.
The Highlight of our Trip
Lydia’s home is exactly as described — an oasis in the city! It is impeccably clean, thoughtfully decorated, and the definition of a home away from home. During the span of my first anniversary trip in Europe, my husband and I stayed in 7 vacation rentals which were all lovely; however Lydia’s home was quite literally saving the best for last. The property is located on a side pedestrian-only street which made us feel safe and secluded, yet the beach, great restaurants and many attractions were within a 10-30 minute walk. Our flight was delayed so we arrived late and didn’t have the opportunity to meet Lydia, but she made the check-in process effortless and we were welcomed with a lovely spread of fresh fruits, charcuterie, and a variety of beverages. She even provided us with wine and beer which was so thoughtful and truly made our arrival so welcoming. We enjoyed the beautiful terrace and basking in the peace and quiet and abundant sunshine. Communication with Lydia was effortless and she was incredibly responsive and hospitable. Because we had a late flight and no guests were arriving on our check-out date, she even allowed us to store our luggage until we left for the airport. I cannot begin to thank Lydia enough for being such a gracious host and providing such an amazing space, and when I return to Barcelona this will be the only place to consider staying! As a seasoned traveler who has stayed in countless vacation rentals, this one takes the crown as the top. If you’re lucky enough to stay here, your experience will be unparalleled!
Lydia was extremely helpful during the whole stay. The kitchen was very thoughtfully stocked with plenty of supplies on arrival. It was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Excellent location close to beach and restaurants. We would definitely stay again if visiting Barcelona.
Our family loved staying at this place close to the beach and not far from tourist sites either. It is modem and beautifully decorated. We were amazed by Lydia’s hospitality! She met us at check in and explained the various features of the place. Also she provided some food and drinks as a welcome basket! Such a nice touch. Lydia also helped us with ideas for our trip to lovely Costa Brava as well as around Barcelona.
One of our favorite aspects of this gem of a place is the rooftop patio. We spent mornings and some evenings relaxing there amidst plants and flowers. It’s the best!
Thanks Lydia for going above and beyond!
The Olympic village of Barcelona is built on the sea front by the Port Olympic Marina. The two towers with a height of 153.5m dominate the Barcelona skyline, a nice view from our house. There are numerous sculptures along the sea front and a wide variety of restaurants, bars and 'chiringuitos' to enjoy the Mediterranean cuisine.
Another must-see is the Torre de las Aigues (1905); The Fish by the sea, designed by Frank Gehry, a huge copper-coloured steel structure that glimmers in the sunlight; the Plaza de Toros Monumental (1914) with its strongly influenced by Mudéjar and Byzantine architecture facade; the elegant Parc de la Ciutadella (1888) and its Monumental Cascade partially designed by Gaudí; and the Barceloneta, the old fisherman's area where you can feel the Mediterranean atmosphere you would expect to find in a fishing community, are some year round tourist attractions that you will not want to miss. And all of them within walking distance.
The Sagrada Familia by Gaudí (1882) is 1,5 miles, 11 min. by bus (10).
Take the subway (Ciutadella / Vila Olímpica L4) and in a quick ride of two stops you get to The Cathedral (13th-15th centuries), the astonishing Gothic Quarter where you walk back in History to the 10th century; and the Picasso Museum. One more stop and you will be by the well-known Plaza Cataluña and Las Ramblas.
