Voro cottage nestles in the village of Lithakia some 300 metres above sea level with spectacular views of the sea and the Argassi peninsula looking across Kalamaki bay and towards the town of Zakynthos which is approximately 10 kilometres away by road. Nestling amongst the olive groves Voro cottage is centrally located for most of the islands amenities yet enjoys a rural and tranquil calm location that is private but not isolated. Being less than five minutes away from beautiful sandy beaches and more than a dozen or so local tavernas.
Just come home from a very relaxing week in this beautiful cottage with fantastic views.
As has been said before Mike and Gilly are wonderful hosts and they gave us loads of tips for days out.
The cottage is well equipped and even in over 30 degree temperatures outside always remained lovely and cool.
A car is essential but hire charges were reasonable and roads very quiet.
Excellent base for exploring the island and we hope to return soon.
We had an amazing time staying here. Thanks to Mike and Gilly's wonderful advice we didn't have a wasted moment. They asked us what we liked and directed us to stunning beaches and fantastic places to eat, and not one disappointment.
The cottage was great and entirely fit for purpose. As other reviews have said, a car is probably essential, but Mike managed to get us a great local deal on that too.
A wonderful place on a wonderful island, and thank you Mike and Gilly for your hospitality.
This was our second visit to Mike & Gilly's cottage and since we were last there they have made a major upgrade in that the terrace/balcony has been realigned creating a lot more space. They have also added another sitting area under the shade of the vine and beside the plunge pool. Everything else is as good as it always was and the helpful advice of Mike and Gilly ensured that we had a really enjoyable week. Henrietta, the lunatic chicken, was in a crotchety and broody mood - possibly something to do with her deciding she is really a goose - but no doubt by the time anyone else visits she will be back to her normal self.
It's a lovely cottage exactly as in the pictures. There are beautiful views from inside and the pretty garden. Lots of extras were provided by Mike and Gillian which made a stress free holiday. They took us to an unusual restaurant (amazing)we could never have found by ourselves. All the local restaurants served good food at very reasonable prices. I would recommend you have a car as the island is so pretty and well worth exploring fully. We cannot wait to return.
What can we say that hasn't been said before ? Except that this place converted Christine from someone who tolerates holidays to someone desperate to return next year for longer. Mike and Gilly really are the perfect hosts - helpful when needed and unobtrusive. More importantly always ready for a drink and a chat looking out at the fantastic view from the house. Thanks to them we found the best places to eat including a fantastic rustic retreat up in the hills. Jack , Cookie and Henrietta are charming (but look after your shoes !! ) A car is really essential because the cottage is an uphill walk back from shops and tavernas and there are fantastic beaches and scenery on the island but nowhere more than 40 minutes by car.
We booked to stay at Voro Cottage for a walking holiday and it was the perfect choice, up in the hills with fantastic views through the olive groves to the sea. With suggestions from our ever helpful hosts Mike and Gilly and the excellent Sunflower guide, we walked the hill paths through forests and fields of wild flowers with stunning views on all sides. We would definitely recommend the cottage for a walking holiday.
Voro Cottage is to be found on the edge of the village of Lithakia - a proper Greek village unspoilt by tourism. It has a supermarket, bakery, chemist, local cafes and the famous Dennis Taverna - a legend on the island. Five minutes away are the beaches of Liminaki - Agios Sostice and Porto Koukla. Here you can comfortably pass the day either on the beach or at one of the bars or tavernas, or hire a motor boat and laze on the sea turtle spotting and visit the blue caves and swim in their sapphire blue waters. Maybe even a trip to the beaches of the uninhabited island of Marathanisi. A further ten minutes along the coast is the village and harbour of Keri. While fifteen minutes the other way is Zante town with its harbour, quaint streets and many tavernas lining the harbour Road. Lithakia is ideally positioned to explore the whole of the island - nowhere is more than 50 minutes away. 15 minutes to the north is Killiomeno, gateway to the hills and the mountains and scenery of great beaut
