About Bali: Bali is Indonesia’s most popular tourist location and is considered one of Asia's premier tropical island destinations. Steeped in history and renowned for its artistic way of life, Bali is a peaceful contrast to some of the more frantic destinations Asia has to offer. The inner peace and creative talents of the Balinese has attracted artists the world over fascinated by local dancers, silversmiths, wood carvers, potters and painters that seem to pervade throughout the island. The abundant verdant fields and surrounding sea have long supplied Bali with an easy surplus of food leaving time for life’s more artistic past times. As a result everything in Bali has a creative and religious element centred around the local Banjar (residents association) – little, adorned temples are everywhere, doors are covered in intricate carvings, huge kites ward off evil spirits and colorful roadside ceremonies bring traffic to a standstill. Bali is a popular destination!
Canti Astri is a small compound of luxury villas in Bali, about 500 meters north of Echo Beach, which is about an hour drive towards the west from Kuta. We came here for a week, and it was the only place during our entire year off that we had a set date for. This was to be our final relaxation before our hesitant return to real life.
We had arranged a car to pick us up at the airport, as suggested by the owner of the villa, because a taxi would most likely not know where it is. We were picked up by the most friendly driver who, during the hour trip, told us everything we wanted to know about Bali and Indonesia, from what the main religions are to how rice is grown and harvested (driving is his part time job, he is usually a rice farmer). It was during this ride that we began to realize how unwaveringly friendly and kind the Balinese people are.
We arrived at the villa to find the 3 permanent staff waiting for us at the front door with huge smiles and little flowers in their hair. They warmly greeted us with a cold towel and a refreshing juice decorated with flowers, telling us their names and welcoming us to this paradise. We stepped into the door and stood there motionless, taking in the sight of the place we would be living for the next week.
A partially covered courtyard stretched lengthwise along the property, with the main house to one end containing a spacious living/dining area with a 15′ high ceiling and a separate master bedroom with a big en-suite (more on that later :)). On the other end of the courtyard sits the 2nd bedroom also with an en-suite, which is separated from the main house by a covered outdoor living room area.
On the side of the courtyard there is a swimming pool with a forest of tall fens and tropical greens along the side, a raised gazebo at the far end, and a couple of deck chairs on the other.
The whole area is filled with greenery, little statues, sculptures, and fountains, making it an absolutely beautiful and peaceful place. We spent most of our time sitting in the covered outdoor living area, with the pool to our left and a ledge overlooking a narrow rice paddy to our right, gazing at the countless colorful kites fluttering away in the afternoon sun.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Empat Villa. The villa is located in a quiet area amongst rice paddies and only a 15 - 20 min walk to the ocean. Its the perfect place if you want to be away from the hustle and bustle. If you get a chance hire a scooter and go for a ride around the area, I didn't want to do it at the time, but I did and it was wonderful. The villa is beautiful, you could easily spend all your time just relaxing around the pool and getting in house massages. You also have the option of an in house cook, we highly recommend using this facility, the food is fantastic. The staff are wonderful, they go out of their way to make your holiday stress free and totally relaxing. Our biggest regret was doing so much sight seeing and not enjoying what we had at the villa. We stayed at the villa for our anniversary, but it would also be fantastic for a honeymoon, family holiday or for two couples. If you are considering the villa for your next holiday we would definitely recommend, you book now.
My family of 4 stayed for 5 nights at the Villa Empanat. The villa is amazing...spacious, clean, quiet and wonderful staff that come every day. The villa is close to the beach, about a 10-15 minute walk, with a few places to get a bite to eat along the way, not to mention the handful of warungs at the beach. My number 1 recommendation is to include the driver for hire. You can rent motor-scooters but the traffic everywhere is chaotic and unless you are familiar with the roads, an accident is just waiting to happen. Alannah handles the booking and as others have said, the process is very smooth and uncomplicated. Very safe area with security staff 24/7.
We enjoyed the villa so much we extended and stayed for 13 weeks. The property more than matches the website photos etc. (Not always the case in Bali) and was particularly well maintained.
One of the huge advantages of Villa Empat was the breeze that came across the padi fields adjacent. This was so welcome after our experiences in other villas during the wet season.
Super dining table for entertaining, much better than average wifi and fully equipped kitchen. We loved the location on the edge of all the action (Canggu Seminyak etc.) easy to get to all the restaurants and shops beeches etc. If you wanted to.
The staff (Wayan and Ayu) were super friendly and helpful.
We stayed for 10 days at The Villa Empat and enjoyed every minute of our stay. The booking process and correspondence with Alannah Hutton was simple and straight forward. Due to the volcanic ash cloud, we arrived at in Bali 12 hours later and very exhausted. We were met by a nice driver and the manager, Made who explained all the facilities. Ayu served up a delicious breakfast every morning and Wayan was very helpful too. The villa is a little bit out of the way and I would highly advise you to book the driver and the car. We had the most wonderful driver in Komang, who became part of our family and is someone that we will never forget. He even invited us to his our house for lunch with his family, which was the highlight of our holiday. The people in Bali were the most nicest and kindest people that I have ever met.
Echo beach is only a 20 minute walk or a 5 minute drive - well worth a visit in the evening to view the sunset and sip on some cocktails. There are many great restaurants in the area - The Pizza House serves the best pizza I have ever tasted.
Book this villa because you will have the most enjoyable time of your life.
Villa Empat was located in an affluent area of Caangu. Clearly many villas in this area are foreign owned by ex pats. It is quiet and the surrounding streets are very clean and tidy. There is security 24/7, scooters available, and staff who arrive daily with a smile ready to start breakfast and their housekeeping chores. The grounds are well maintained and the pool is larger than we first expected. The options give flexibility and we chose to have a driver so that we could dine out locally as there are many places to choose from. It is a short distance to Echo Beach and Batu Belong. This is a surfing beach and you will find many european travellers and families who are passionate or willing to take to the surf as we did. The manager who we secured our booking with contacts you as and when required and was very professional. We enjoyed returning to the Villa after a day spent in Ubud and Seminyak to unwind or take a dip in the pool.
Villa Empat was a wonderful place to stay in Canggu. The villa staff Kady & Wayan were so helpful and friendly, playing with our 6 month old every morning so we could eat our delicious breakfast in peace - Kady makes a mean banana pancake! The location is great and the town is only a 10 minute walk away however I would recommend using the driver option if traveling with kids - the staff were very helpful in booking us a driver once we were there but the price was slightly higher and dependent on availability each day. The pool was lovely and refreshing and a beautiful outlook from the bedrooms.
