About the property

Turn of the Century, beautiful cottage with a New Orleans Flair!!

La Maison Scott was constructed in the early 20th century in New Orleans' Faubourg Marigny neighborhood, which is adjacent to and within walking distance of the French Quarter and Frenchman St. It has recently undergone a major renovation that brings out the charm of this early 20th century residence, updated with all of the modern amenities.

La Maison Scott, offers 2000 square feet of living area, has 2 private master bedrooms, one king and one queen, with private en-suite bathrooms, a large formal dining room, a living room, fully equipped office,a spacious eat-in kitchen and a private courtyard with gas grill, water feature and outdoor furniture. The home has 13 foot ceilings, polished hardwood floors, 1 decorative fireplace and large windows throughout which give the home a light, airy feel. La Maison Scott has central heating and cooling, and most rooms are equipped with a ceiling fan that takes the edge off of those days when the mercury is running high.

Guests may enter to a formal dining room featuring a fireplace with a decorative mantle and two extra large windows that flood the room in sunlight. This room is furnished with a large traditional dining table that seats up to 8 people and is perfect for those evenings when you just want to order in or prepare yourself a feast in our fabulous kitchen.

The spacious, light-filled living room has a leather comfy sofa coffee tables and a lounge chairs. The living room also features a 52inch flat screen HDTV, along with a DVD player and an iPod dock. Wireless high speed internet is available throughout the home.

When you are on vacation nothing is more important than getting a good night's rest. So, we have furnished each bedroom with a new, high-quality pillow top mattress, comforters, chenille throws and 100% cotton sheets that we guarantee will make it difficult to get out of bed each morning. Each bedroom has a dresser, nightstands , HDTV with DVD player. Upstairs master bedroom has private balcony with sitting area and fabulous views of the Marigny and courtyard. This bedroom has an ensuite with a jacuzzi tub and a large tiled seperate shower and a walk in Closet. The main floor master bedroom at the rear of the house offers a pillow top queen size bed, HD TV, ceiling fan and a large ensuite bathroom.

The airconditioned sitting room has a new queen pillow top bed, blinds for complete privacy and desk for those who just want to chill out and read it also has a private entrance.

Also featured is a powder room off of the living room. Each bathroom is supplied with high-quality Egyptian cotton towels, bath sheets, toiletries and hair dryer.

Our large, modern eat-in kitchen is delightfully bathed in sunlight with two sets of windows and a side door that leads to the courtyard or side yard. Indeed, our kitchen is uncharacteristically large and airy for historic homes in the Marigny neighborhood. The kitchen features stainless steel appliances and is well-equipped with a complete supply of cookware, dishes and cutlery. Small appliances include a toaster oven, a microwave and a Keurig coffee maker. After you have brewed your morning coffee, simply take a stroll through the French doors into the courtyard to sip your coffee and listen to the sounds of morning in New Orleans, which might include the horn of a paddle-wheeler making its way down the Mississippi a few blocks away!

And while you are in the courtyard, you might as well enjoy all of the amenities offered, sit around the fountain or just relax on the outdoor furniture. It is so comfortable that you might not want to leave!

My husband and I are retired and live a few blocks away. We are always available to offer assistance and recommendations to ensure that our guest have a great experience in New Orleans!

About Terry Scott

We fell in love with New Orleans and particularly the Marigny area after my husband's work brought us here. We purchased this lovely home a couple of years ago to enjoy as a second home for guests and family. We now live in New Orleans permanently just a few blocks away from La Maison Scott, so when are guest require assistance we are always available.

We established La Maison Scott in hope to share our lovely get away with our guests.

Terry Scott purchased this house in 2011

Why Terry Scott chose Faubourg Marigny

A home away from home with a New Orleans flair. Location, location location..So nice to be walking distance to most attractions and not need a rental car.Although if you do have a car there is plenty of parking.Great neighborhood which offers our guests a real New Orleans experience..

What makes this house unique

Love the historic feeling ,yet the modern amenities.. come and visit and we promise you will return to La Maison Scott!!

We also have two 1 bedroom apartments nearby, equally as beautiful with similar amenities.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We loved our stay in this very confortable home! The location was perfect, close to Frenchman St, French Quarter and parks. After a long day of touring the city it was nice to come back to a relaxing quiet courtyard. The layout of the house was great for our family of six, linens and beds are extremely comfortable. We loved the large bright kitchen fully equipped to entertain.

Could not have asked for a better home to celebrate our anniversary !!

We highly recommend this home!!

Nice House - Just Needs Some TLC

  • 2 of 5

Let's start by saying that the home is really nice. There was a group of 5 of us and none of us are bougee ladies. There was enough space, but the layout isn't the best if you need privacy in the 1st level bedroom. So, here are the pros and cons from our Philly/South Carolina group. Judge for yourself. Good Luck!

Pros:

Across the street from the grocery store

Within walking distance of Frenchmen Street

Within walking distance of a great Karaoke Bar

Cons:

1. Security: You have to lock the screen door at night to feel secure. This doesn't seem like an issue, but you have to lock it with a key and can't leave the key in the door in the event that you need to exit in a hurry because there is no glass in the door. Also, the front door could use a bolt lock. The 2nd bedroom on the main level could use better locks.

2. Housekeeping: There was dust, dirt, and spider webs everywhere. The outside trashcan was full when we arrived and there was no information as to when collection day(s) were.

3. Layout (No privacy): As mentioned previously, you must go through the master on the first floor to get to the second bedroom on the first level. The two rooms are separated by curtains.

4: Lack of Owner Response: I text the owner about the upstairs tv not working. She asked a question about the remote. I replied and I am STILL waiting to hear back from her. Yes folks, we've been home since the 9th and today is the 18th! The lightbulb in the shower upstairs went out, but we didn't report that.....we figured we wouldn't get a response.

Lovely

  • 5 of 5

Lovely and comfortable. My sisters and I just spent a long weekend at Suzanne and Terry’s place In the Marigny.

We wanted for nothing. Everything was clean and stocked. Linens aplenty, comfy beds and pillows. Great location. Would highly recommend and really want to go back sometime

Excellent Location

  • 4 of 5

This house is in an excellent location for walks to the French Quarter. The Frenchman Street restaurants and activities are even closer. It is well maintained and the pictures are an accurate representation. There is a new Robert's Fresh Market less than 3 minutes from the house. The market embraces the Whole Foods concept and is a welcome convenience.

Unfortunately for us, the living room air conditioner went out while we were there. Suzanne was overseas and it took us a little while to make contact due to time zone issues, but once contact was established, she put her property manager to work on the issue and the problem was repaired in a few hours. The repairs were done on a Sunday, so it is clear she is concerned with providing a pleasant rental experience for those who stay in the house.

The double-bed bedroom may or may not work for you. To get to that bedroom, the occupant has to physically go through the queen-bed bedroom. This could be awkward, or embarrassing, for a couple in the queen-bed bedroom. This is less of a problem if the occupant of the double-bed bedroom is the child of the couple in the queen-bed bedroom.

This is a excellent house for two couples. We had 5 people so we had to handle the bedroom issues. That problem is the only reasons I did not give the house 5 stars.

Can't say anything bad about this property

  • 5 of 5

This property exceeded our expectations. Although the pictures already looked great, they still didn't do this home justice. The inside was beautiful, large, comfortable with all the amenities. The temperature was perfect with a combination of AC and large ceiling fans in the living areas and bedrooms. The house was very clean. Suzanne has went out of her way to ensure you have everything you need within the home. The beds and pillows were extremely comfortable. The backyard was peaceful and tranquil for morning coffee or a cocktail after a long day of exploring the nearby French Quarter activities. It was close enough to the French Quarter however far enough away to enjoy the peace and quiet. The house was very sound from outside noise. With the homes natural wood floors and the decorating, it makes you feel like you're at home however with the NOLA feel. I would come back and stay here again and would recommend this property to anyone that wants to be close enough to the French Quarter however not in the midst of some of the loud chaotic areas. The small touches in this home mean a lot and do not go unnoticed. Right from the different types of beverage glasses to two types of coffee makers, the numerous towels, make-up pads etc. Thank you Suzanne for thinking of just about everything to make your guests feel comfortable and at home. One thing guests should know is across the street is an office-type building for which on the other side of it is a full grocery store. We didn't see this until after we purchased groceries due to the direction we came in from to the property. It is about a 30 second walk as you walk through a pathway between these office buildings and very convenient. As we were not aware that it was there, I had already stopped at a small market in the French Quarter which was expensive and didn't have nearly as much choice as this grocery store across the street. In addition, for visitors, take some time to look at all the various information documents Suzanne has provided around the home that include phone numbers of drivers that can take you from point A to Point B, emergency numbers, what to do and see in the area including restaurant recommendations. Thank you again for everything. Teresa, Deb, Judy from Canada

Exceptional New Orleans Home in a Great Area!

  • 5 of 5

We just spent three lovely days at Suzanne and Terry's home and it was exceptional. Our group was 6 people, and there was more than enough space. The home is beautiful. The location was phenomenal, an easy walk to Bourbon Street, Frenchmen Market, Jackson Square, etc.
